Book Mom

A Southern Mom who is trying to be less shy and loves books.

Awww, Brotherly love.

It must be nice to have a brother or sister. I have none, so I wouldn't know. And just so you know, these two are sleeping on top of my cabinets. *g* BTW, note how Butterscotch is smiling!
Today was not quite busy, not quite, well, quiet. We overslept and then were unable to make it to the Y because they closed the childcare VERY early today.
We did make it to Sam's where Chris proceeded to buy fireworks for the 4th, not to mention some croissants and a cheesecake. Granted, trying to eat healthy doesn't seem to go with those last two choices. But, moderation is key. The fireworks would scare me, but I don't have to be anywhere near them when they are set off.
After that we went by BAM because I begged nicely to see if the Meg Cabot manga 'Avalon High: The Coronation #1 was there. And it was. Normally manga is not my thing, but I really liked Cabot's YA, Avalon High, a take off of the Arthurian legend.
After that, home where we have been watching movies because TV (excuse my language) sucks right now! We watched Oscar, a screwball comedy, and Jeff Dunham (a comedian/ventriliquist who is absolutely hysterical) in concert. Seriously we laughed so hard that we were unable to even drink anything without fear of choking.

The burn is fine, the skin is barely pink now. It's hard to believe it caused so much pain last night and barely bothers me today. By tomorrow I expect that I won't even notice it.

I hope everyone had a good day today. I'm hoping some fun was involved, or at least a few smiles! May tomorrow bring you peace and relaxation, if not that than at least take a deep breath! B.

EDITED TO ADD********
I just wanted to let you know that as much as fireworks are dangerous, Chris is very careful with them. AND he used to be a volunteer fireman and EMT, so he is aware of the dangers.

Camping out in the LR.

Bitterscotch just loves this kitty tent. He gets upset when one of the other cats jumps on it and collapses it. He will follow it around the living room if I take it in hand and try to set it back where it was, because the kitties have a habit of rolling, wresting and jumping in it, on it and at it. This tent, besides the cabinet above the refrigerator, is his favorite place to sleep.

Today was ho-hum, ordinary and all that. I did run to WW because we were out of Chris' soft drinks and the Dasani water with lemon I am fast becoming addicted to. (Not to mention we were out of cat litter, a very bad thing when you have 7 kitties with active bladders!) While out I took a look at Hobby Lobby to see if they might have something that would work in the hallway. But, they didn't. I still like the hall/tree/cabinet thingie we saw at Ashley's, but am keeping an eye out for a cheaper alternative and DON'T want to put the shelf back up. I just feel that leaves the wall open to more damages.
Other than laundry and vacumming I have done no other housework and felt a bit lazy about that, but at the same time I just needed a 'down' day. Our new router came today, the one we had kept dropping our computers offline and kept refusing to connect. This one is an APPLE modem that Chris decided should work better. I certainly hope so, because besides Chris and the kids, being online is my only contact with other people most days. And before you feel sorry for me, please realize that when my profile say's I am shy, I am not kidding. The idea of attending a social function can make me sick, literally. I am okay leaving the house, it's being around and being expected to interact with others that bothers me.
ANYWAY, enough of my drivel on that matter. I did read Stealing Home by Sherryl Woods last night and really enjoyed it. I had a probelm with one of the charaters (the heroine's ex-husband, idiot.) and another character worried me greatly to the point where I am going to HAVE to read the next book in this series to make sure that she (heroines best friends daughter) and her eating disorder are under control. The book is a story of a woman finding herself after a divorce, helping her kids adjust to the divorce, and opening herself up to the love of a lifetime. Like I said, a good book.
One bad thing did happen tonight, though. I burnt part of my hand (edge of my palm near my fingers) making dinner. Oops. What makes me feel bad about it is, I was stupid and should have known better than to set my hand down on the stove after Ihad just made rice and turned the burner off. *sigh* Brilliant, right? After soaking it in cool water and applying neosporin (not to mention some ibuprofen for pain) it feels better now and hopefully it won't hurt too much to wash my hair!
I hope y'all had a good day filled with comfortable books. I also hope that y'all have a pleasant weekend filled with blue skies and lovely smiles. B.

Exercise: No. I took the day off. Probably will tomorrow though.

Cats in Boxes part IV

Fireball takes his turn in the box! Seriously, he was all curled up and hanging his head out and looked too cute, but when I got my camera out, he STOOD UP! No fair! Oh, well, he's still adorable. *g*
Today was pretty quiet. We didn't go to the Y today because Chris had an early meeting this morning and had to go into work early. I was okay with this. When I woke up today I felt tired and lethargic, not to mention I still felt stiff and sore! I guess maybe I over did it yesterday. So, I ran some errands today, filled the prescription for Zantac the Doctor gave me (she figured out it would save me money this way, rather than buying it OTC.). Have I mentioned I truly like this new Doctor? I mentioned it? Okay.
*g* After that I dropped by the library because they had a book in that I had on hold. Any guesses? MaryJanice Davidson's new Undeady and Uneasy. I love Betsy in all her snarky glory. As a matter of fact, I like most of of what MJD writes because her heroines are always snarky and seem self reliant. However, like any reader, I know her books aren't everyones 'cup of tea'. I also picked up Stealing Home by Sherryl Woods. Alot of her books are hit or miss for me, but this one is shaping up nicely.
I had set the alarm this morning for Chris to get up and mow the lawn, but he somehow (HA!) overslept and the grass length was annoying me, so I got out there this afternoon and cut it. Although, I had to wait a bit because it was so hot today and then it rained this afternoon for almost 15 minutes (weird) and the thunder and lightening lasted another 20 minutes after that. *sigh* But, I still got it down. I do have to say mowing the hill takes dexterity and makes me feel as though I were part mountain goat! *g* And for my trouble I was covered in wet grass and sweat (oh, wait, Southern women "glow"), but I have the satisfaction of knowing my yard looks nice (I wouldn't say neat because I still need to edge.) and we won't be an embarassment to the neighborhood. *g*
Anyway, I hope you all had a good day and because my mind is curious I have a few questions. What is your favorite movie? What is the movie you find the funniest? And what movie do you find the most romantic? (Maybe nosey is a better word than curious. *G*)
Have a fantastic, fun and flirty friday! (Even if the flirty is catching the cover of a new book out of the corner of your eye!) B.
Exercise: I mowed the lawn, HELLO! *g* That should count, right?

Patches lies in wait.

I don't know what it is with the cats and the stairs, but Patches is smart enough now not to get in my way. Um, it might have something to do with the fact that I tripped over her last year and almost took a header down the stairs but managed to grab the rail in time. Either way, she moves and that's what counts. Athena on the other hand, refuses to move!
Today has been busy as heck and I am so stiff and sore that I'll need a hot shower tonight. After our trip to the Y this morning we came home and the kids started on their schoolwork, and after Chris went to work, I attacked the bathrooms for cleaning. I say attacked because when I clean, I CLEAN. And I don't stop until it is spotless, usually meaning my hands end up rough and chapped. Today was no exception, but I have the satisfaction of gleaming shower/tubs and other bathroom things. *g* I also cleaned the kitchen and meant to vacumm, but started shredding paper (junk mail: credit card offers, mortgage offers, etc.). It took me almost 3 hours (Why yes, it was piled up rather high!) and 3 trash bags of shredded paper. It didn't help that on top of my regular shredding we had some things from when Chris was in the Military that had to be shredded. (2 Notebooks full of papers.) My back is now killing me between the bathrooms and the shredding. OOH, I didn't mention one thing about the Doctor's visit yesterday! I now know how tall I am,I always thought I was 5"5. Turns out I'm 5"4.5! *G* Oh, and God help me, more laundry today too. *sigh* I'm beginning to think we all have too many clothes.
I've started reading Don't Talk Back to Your Vampire by Michele Bardsley, it's good so far. But, with all I've done today I'm not past the 3rd chapter.
Okey dokey, I have towels to fold and jello to make (kids request), Son's had his bath and is in bed. I just need to find the energy to take a shower. I hope y'alls day was productive and pleasant. Have a thursday filled with energy and laughter. B.
Exercise: 3.08 miles on the elyptical (I was slow today.) with a speed of 5.5-6.3.
And Dru? I've been drinking more water with you as an example! *g*

Tag You're It by Penny McCall

Tag You're It by Penny McCall was a ride through a treasure hunt where the goal wasn't just the treasure, but of redemption and love as well.

Alexandra (Alex) Scott never expected to have a man pushed out of an airplane where she was living in the remote Colorado landscape studying Mountain Lions. If that weren't strange enough, moments later the plane circled back and began firing at her! Hurriedly getting the unconscious man back to her cabin before they both are killed becomes her first priority. Her second? Discovering exactly who the man was and why he was dumped on her land. But before she can find the pieces of the the puzzle she must discover what trouble the unwelcome visitor has brought to her front door!

Tag Donovan, an undercover FBI agent on a mission, crash landed in the forest near Alex, but he couldn't tell her it was on purpose. He has a limited amount of time to gather facts, earn Alex's trust and finish his case. He hasn't counted on Alex's tough spirit and inability to trust a man; or his flash fire attraction to her.

Alex and Tag must go on a treasure hunt to discover who set all the pieces of the puzzle into place and why. They have to draw out the bad guys while fighting their attraction for each other. But when all is said and done, is the treasure of monetary value or is the treasure a love of a life time?

All in all a thoroughly enjoyable read with action from start to finish, not to mention an attraction that scorches the pages.

Athena, still as a statue! (*G*)

Son captured this photo of Athena on the stairs. Can you see that LONG tail? It can touch the back of her head and looks like it was dipped in paint on the end. She can be incredibley sweet, but most often she likes to either be by herself or with Midnight.
Today was, to put it bluntly, stressfull (at least for a bit). I went to bed not feeling well and woke up tired. I started the day off dragging and it did not help my mood that I had a Doctor's appointment early this afternoon. It was for, you know, that time of the year. *sigh* I detest these appointments and was happy when I didn't have to go last year. I was weighed (didn't look either), had my blood pressure taken (normal, excellent actually) and my temperature taken. Then came the strip and put on this paper gown thing. Oh. Joy. (Have I mentioned this is at the new Doctor's office we picked?) Anyway, there I am sitting on the table freaking out. (Have I mentioned how I was raised? That my Mom totally ignored any discussion of the female form? That I had never been to and had an exam by an OB/GYN until I was 20 years old and 3 months pregnant with Daughter?) I. Kid. You. Not. So, if that doesn't sink it, we'll just say I have.....issues with being nekkid (*G* I am southern you know.) around anyone. The lady Doctor was exceedingly nice. She came in asked me some questions, if I had any problems with my health I had questions about. When I apologized for crying and (yes, I was crying by now, can't help it) and explained all about my phobias of being there, she told me (She's an ANGEL I tell you!) that there were new guidlines now and that I didn't HAVE to have the exam today. That I still needed a boob check (I know, I seem to talk about boobs alot *G*.), but that now the exams are done overy 3 years. YAY! She asked me if I wanted to go ahead and do the exam today and be done for the next 3 years, or if I wanted to come back next year and do it then. Guess which I picked? Go ahead, guess. Remind me I need to call in May to get an appointment next year, okay? *g*
I meant to read today. I tried to start The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes by Jennifer Crusie, Anne Stuart and Eileen Dreyer, but it's been hard for me to sit still and concentrate today, and I have been dying to read it. I did do my yoga, just because I felt in need of a good stretch. I was going to mow the lawn, but it started to rain (no lightnening, no thunder, just nice cool rain) and I didn't feel like playing slip and slide holding onto a machine with a blade on the bottom.
And that's my day. A bit spastic, a bit stressfull, a bit sleepy. I hope you all had a wonderful day full of sun and fun, smiles and good thoughts. I hope good things for your tomorrow as well! B.

Another brother candid photo.

Fireball and Butterscotch were determined to find the fly that got in the other day. They are without a doubt stubborn and hilarious when they have a goal. In the end, I never heard the fly again and as sorry as I should be that they killed it, well, I have a hard time feeling pity.
We made another trip to the Y this morning to work out and for Son to play in the pool. I kept to my threat last week and Daughter wasn't allowed to swim. Which meant that I wasn't either as someone had to sit out with her. Chris spent time with Son in the pool and I think they had a blast. Son giggled for almost the entire time. I even took one picture of him, but can't post it here, even though his face is not easily distinguishable thanks to the goggles he was wearing.
After we came home the kids did their school work and I did laundry. Speaking of, does it ever end? *g* I also managed between last night and tonight to finish Howl's Moving Castle by Diane Wynne Jones and Tag You're It by Penny McCall. Bother were fantastic reads. More info to be posted later on the Penny McCall.
It rained spectacularly earlier this evening. I was thankful for the rain, but could have done without the hours of massive thunder and lightening that followed and lasted longer than the rain!
Anyway, that's my day. I've been battling a headache all evening and still have many a chore before bed. I hope your day wasn't awful and that your tuesday yields smiles and laughter. B.
Exercise: 32 minutes on the elyptical for a total of 3.36 miles at a pace of 6.3 speed.

Cats in Boxes Part IIIB

Another picture of Layla in the BAM box. See the look she's giving Patches? Seems to be saying, "MY BOX!" She spent almost the whole day in that box, and today? Not once has she gone near it. Cats sure are fickle!
I absolutely love it when a new gorcery store opens, and we were able to shop at one today. I know it sounds weird, but for some reason the drinks (soft drinks) are always on sale to the point where you wonder how much money they are LOSING selling them at that price. We picked up many for Chris today and also some gatorade (Ewwww, I hate that stuff!). On the off chance that because the store was stocked with brand new merchandise, I looked for The Unfotunate Miss Fortunes the novel by Jennifer Crusie, Eileen Dreyer and Anne Stuart. AND THEY HAD IT! Wheeeeeeee! Whoa, the book is 391 pages, not counting the preview of Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie (and Bob Meyer) in the back. I have so many lovely books (for me, having 7 books to read is ALOT) that I am unsure which to read first! (And I did manage to find a new hairbrush I like, YAY!)
I didn't exercise again today, but I did have a salad for dinner, did laundry, ironing and tons of grocery shopping (at 3 different grocery stores), so does that count? *G* Not to mention, we are going back to the Y tomorrow. Daughter, however, will not be swimming with her brother. She did NOT have her outline finished tonight. *sigh* I hate being in this position. The Punisher, Enforcer, etc. But, it is a part of being a parent. It's not like you get to pick and choose the parts of parenthood that are the most fun and forget all the ones that are tough.
In other news we had a slight home problem yesterday. We keep a shelf with hooks in the hallway between the LR and the Kitchen (which has the door to the garage), we usually keep our keys, my purse, Daughters purse, Chris' lunch bag and all that on it. But, yesterday I noticed that it was pulling out of the wall and was tearing the wall. Not a good thing. We had anchors in but since we couldn't anchor it to a stud, it seems 3 years of use has taken it's tole. Chris has taken it down and patched the wall and we are debating whether or not to hang it back up or not. I vote not. If it did it once, it will do it again. So now we need to find somewhere else to keep all the things that were hung there. Time for me to get creative I guess. *g*
I hope y'all had a good day. I hope that the heat was relatively low where you are and that your sunday was spent relaxing. Have a wonderful, and hopefully stress free, monday! B.
Exercise: Nope. I am disappointed in myself, but we had a lot going on today and I know that I will be able to exercise tomorrow.

Kitties in Boxes Part III

I received some books in the mail today and Layla promptly took the box. *G* Never mind that she really didn't fit in the box well. She just wanted a space that was all hers. You can see her pretty blue eyes in the picture I snapped this afternoon.
I have not felt well at all today. I woke up with another headache, sinus induced, and things just got worse after we left the house to run errands. The drainage continued and got so bad I started to feel a bit dizzy and sick. And trust me, the 95 degree heat we had today didn't help.
But, we did make it to Lowe's to pick up some painting supplies (new roller pads, and 4 drawer handles) and to Barnes&Noble so Daughter could use part of the gift card her Dad and I gave her for her birthday. (Not to mention I am still looking for a copy of The Unfotunate Miss Fortunes, BAM and B&N are shipping it already.) But, B&N didn't have a copy actually in the store. We also made one more stop. To Ashley's Furniture. I need a new chair for me, in the LR. We found a gorgeous one that has an ottoman, all in a lovely paisley pattern, it's not a recliner and I really like it. I just hate that I have to wait a week and a half to get it.
Before we left on our errands today, the books I ordered last week came in. Tag You're It by Penny McCall, I'm the Vampire That's Why by Michele Bardsley, Code Name: Bikini by Christina Skye and She's No Angel by Leslie Kelly. I can't wait to start those! BUT, I also had another book come in from Hold at the library. I recently (FINALLY) was able to see Howl's Moving Castle, based on the book by Diana Wynne Jones. So, of course sfter seeing the movie, I had to check out the book! *G* AND I still need to finish Lean Mean 13 by Janet Evanovich. And if you didn't know, on Janet Evanovich's website there is a contest to name book 14, so if you're interested and can think of a great title, go enter! You'll receive your name in the dedication of the book and an advanced copy. Oh, and the contest is going until August 31, 2007.
I hope y'all had a wonderful saturday and took advantage of your time! I also hope that your sunday is relaxing and peaceful! B.
Exercise: No. *sigh* Still feeling sick and benedryl is calling my name. I'm seriously hoping tomorrow is better.

Brothers in arms, or rather paws!

Butterscotch and Fireball are so fun to watch whenever a fly gets in the house. And since Son loves to run in and out of the house constantly..... Anyway, after they chase the fly all over the downstairs (and trust me, the flie never lives once it enters the house) until they catch it. In this picture they have cornered the fly inside my blinds! You know, I haven't seen it since!
I should have known the day wasn't going to go well when I woke up with a headache. It has just seemed to drag on all day and I have felt so tired, even though I got (I think) plenty of sleep. I still did laundry and vacummed, cleaned up the downstairs and straightened the upstairs. I also made a loaf of blueberry bread. Son did his schoolwork and I've been battling Daughter all day to get hers done. (Her friends have the summer off and she just wants to play and watch tv all day.) She's hit puberty and we are suffering for it. But, I really hate to do this to her, she is going to have to face facts and my rules, or be punished. She has an outline for a paper due by Sunday night and if it isn't, she won't go swimming next week.
I finished the Linda Howard book and can now start the Janet Evanovich, Lean Mean 13. If you read her Stepahnie Plum books, is there a favorite? A favorite scene? I can't remember which book it's in but I like when Stephanie and Lula put a flag on a body that is sticking out of the car. Oh, or the one where Grandma Mazur takes Stephanies tazer out of her purse and uses it on Stephanies Dad. AND I have to admit to not liking Joe Morelli very much. I figured it out. I don't like the way he is constantly trying to change her. To tame her. Ranger lets her be and thinks she is mainly fine the way she is. But, that's just my opinion.
Tomorrow is supposed to be HOT, so I'm not sure I'm willing to leave the house! We didn't go to the Y today, because they are having a county wide swim meet there and the pools were closed. Chris was going to go to just work out, but the parking lot was so jammed he gave up and came home. I'll try and get him to do something this weekend for his exercise. I've tried to talk him into trying Yoga, but he won't go for it. *g* He did try Pilates a few years ago, though.
And that was my day. Boring, quiet (out of necessity, headache) and ordinary. I hope you all had the day you needed. I also hope your weekend is enjoyable and fun. B.
Exercise: *SIGH* No, I'm sorry. I've felt tired and blah all day. I will absolutely do my best to exercise tomorrow.

The indignity of a dozing kitty

Midnight falls asleep in the oddest positions. One minute he's sitting there and the next, zonk, he's out. I wish I could sleep like this, well, not like THIS. But, pick a spot, settle down and go to sleep no matter what's around me.

I finished one of my books from the library, Prom Dates From Hell by Rosemary Clement-Moore. I enjoyed it and may look for my own copy (*sigh* used of course). If Daughter does all her school work to satisfaction, I'll even let her read it. The review is below. I was getting ready to start Lean Mean 13 by Janet Evanovich today, but grabbed a paperback off my keeper shelves to take to the Y this morning. (I can read holding a hardback and walk on the treadmill, but am not sure about the elyptical.) I had just gotten started on Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard when I noticed that the child care people had brought the kids into the other half of the gym where the mats were, so they could tumble. I was facing away from them, but could see them out of the corner of my eye if I turned my head (without falling off!). I was peeking after having been exercising for about 10 minutes (wearing my earbuds for my ipod) when I noticed that Son's face was red. He only gets that way when he is upset and/ or crying. There were no tears and I wanted to see if Son would calm down without my presence, so I turned back around for another minute or two. I looked back again and he was crying. I got off, walked over to Chris and told him I was done, Son needed me. I picked up Son and we walked back to the childcare room to pick up the kids bag full of swim things, and I sat with him on my lap for a bit, while Chris finished up, just calming him down. I've noticed that Son can get a bit uncertain if in a large groups of kids (he's okay with 5 or 6, but over that and he gets antsy). AND one of the childcare ladies was a hard ass (Yes, I cussed. Sue me. She made my Son upset.) I think his day started off a bit "off" though. When we woke him up he was tired. Normally after a few minutes he's bouncing around. Today though, he was almost lethargic. He cheered up when we went swimming. I got in the pool today and made sure to spend most of our time there with him, just playing. He laughed and had a good time and by the time we went home he was in a better mood. Although, he has had a propensity to cry today. Like I said, just an "off" day.

Yes, I got in the pool. In a bathing suit. GAH! I was very careful not to be seen without a towel though. If you haven't figured it out, I am VERY insecure about my looks and figure. (Which in school growing up, made me a target. (And the fact I always had a book in front of me.)) But, all in all, we had a good time and then came home. Laundry, schoolwork and play (not to mention making dinner, Chicken Paprika, YUM!) took up the rest of the day and evening.
Son is still quieter than usual. I am hoping tomorrow is a better day for him.

I truly hope that y'all had a good day. That no clouds marred your day. I wish a wonderful friday full of fun and joy to you all! B.

Exercise: 10 minutes on the elyptical. 2 laps in the pool. *sigh* Not very good today. Tomorrow the pool is closed, so Chris is going on his own and I'll do Yoga at home.

Prom Dates From Hell by Rosemary Clement-Moore

Prom Dates From Hell by Rosemary Clement-Moore was a fantastic supernatural YA book with a look at the last few weeks of High School as seen through the eyes of School Paper Reporter Maggie Quinn.

High School can be hard enough, but when you suspect that someone (or something) is targeting the Popular and mean spirited clique of Jocks and Jessicas and that the Prom is only a week away, well, it's going to be hard to ignore the accidents and odd behavior going on around reporter Maggie Quinn.

Maggie has managed to avoid the dreams for years, unfortunately her instincts (not to mention her sixth sense) kick in when one of her dreams seems to relate to the strange things happening to the Jocks and Jessicas. Luckily she has help in figuring out her dreams from her Grandmother and from Justin MacCallum, a cute college student of her fathers. Now Maggie must find a way to save her High School from the Supernatural Forces she suspects are at work and turn in her English Literature paper on Jonathan Swift to her dragon (not really, but the term fits!) of a teacher before the end of the world as she knows it. Talk about pressure! And if Justin happens to ask her on a date, she'll have even more incentive to get to the bottom of all the incidents. Good thing her hero is Nancy Drew. This girl reporter wants to be prepared.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from Rosemary Clement-Moore and can't wait for it's next installment due out next March, titled Hell Week. You needn't be a young adult to enjoy this book, it has a universal appeal for youth or adult. Ms. Moore has captured the angst and heriarchy in high school perfectly. With her heroine Maggie's snarky comments and craving for caffeine, she's sure to appeal to a vast array of readers.

The Hunt for 'Birdie'

Fireball is one of the most ferverent hunters of the feather "birdie" toy. He will bounce up and down like Tigger from Winnie the Pooh. I. Kid. You. Not. The only difference is, he doesn't bounce with his tail, he springs up from his back feet. It's so much fun to watch. *g*
Today was another trip to the Y. Chris is still happy working out there and today, thanks to my shopping skills, he was able to swim with the kids after his workout. Son had a blast. He LOVED having his Daddy in the pool with him. And it's so funny to see Son wearing the safety/float/beltish thing. (It is foam and wraps around his waste, it snaps and works better than a life vest for him.) He hold his nose and leans forward to "go under water". It's the cutest thing because he doesn't really go under water thanks to the belt. He bobs like a bouy. *G*G*G*
My bathing suit game this evening. It fits well, excpet in the fanny area. I guess when people buy the size I ordered, they have bigger fanny's than I do! I'm not sure to be happy that I don't have a big butt or whether I should be unhappy with my fanny. *g* Lovely topic isn't it? 'Scuse me while I walk off whistling.
Okay, back now and my cheeks are bright red, Sorry!
Anyway, after the Y and lunch, I was selfish and fooled around online for a while. Then remembered HEY! I have books waiting for me at the library. Whoo-hoo! Off we went and I swear it was hot as hades today. Have I mentioned I hate summer? *g* Guess what I brought home from the library? Prom Dates From Hell by Rosemary Clement-Moore (it's a YA, and so good I've almost finished it), Lean Mean 13 by Janet Evanovich, and The Angel and the Jabberwocky Murders by Mignon F. Ballard (her books are great). I am a happy, happy book reader/lover! In all of this afternoon mix in the many loads of laundry, making dinner (Cook? Me? In this heat? Well, yeah, ugh!) and filling up the kids wading pool so that they could play in the frigid water. Later on I had to let the water out. (Mosquito hazard to leave it out) And later in the evening discovered ANTS! In my kitchen by the trashcan. UGH! EEWWWWW. I hate ants. So, I had to dig out the house bug repellant we bought 2 weeks ago that Chris had still not sprayed around the house. And spray I did. All around the first floor on the inside and even though it was 10 o'clock at night, all around the outside as well. *sigh* I love the man, but dang, that was his job. Oh, well. At least it was finally done.
Enough of my drivel. I hope your day was fun. Or sunny, and no I don't wish HOT on anyone. Have a safe, productive, happy thursday! B.
Exercise: 2.84 miles on the elyptical in fat burner mode. My calves are sore!

Another oldie but goodie picture.

I absolutely love it when Layla does this. For some reason we call it her ferret-baby pose. But, in reality, she looks like a Merekat. Note the fangs! *G*
Today was, to put it simply, busy. We got up and managed to get most of the household chores done before heading to the Y. This time Chris went with us and worked out while I watched the kids in the pool. There wasn't time for me to workout because we got there a little late for everyone to do something. But, tomorrow we will get there even earlier. I know it seems a bit extreme going every day, but if it gets Chris to exercise, I'll do it. After the Y we came home and had lunch, and I noticed the light was blinking on the answering machine. Since yesterday it seems. (Oops.) It was the Out-laws (I really like that name Tori!) who wanted to know if they could come over today. Not being able to come up with an excuse quickly (And my being such a nice person. Darn it.) I said they could come over today. A day when I had plans. To *gasp* shop. (Chris told me 5 minutes before we left for they Y that his bathing suit doesn't fit anymore. No? Really? *g*) This is where I mention that I thought the Out-laws would only stay for an hour or so. Oh, no. Not an hour. Not an hour and a half. 3 HOURS! Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I should a diplomat. Chris owes me BIG!
I did still manage to make it to Marshall. (I adore that store.) Where I picked Chris up a bathing suit for $14. I like a good bargain! After that, Home. YAY! Because I have to tell you, we have changed out sleeping schedules a bit and I am TIRED. The kids are TIRED. And going to bed early never looked so good! Did I mention that it was hot today? 97 degrees at 1pm hot? AGH! I want Fall. Please! October can not come soon enough for me. *g*
Oh, and you want to watch something funny? Blow up a balloon in front of a cat! You have never seen kitties run so fast in all your lives. Except for the cats who are crazy enough to STALK the balloons. Oh, and it's fun to blow them up and then let them go before tying them. HAHAHA! Cats scatter like wind blowing!
Anyway, have a wonderful thursday (2 of my books are in at the library and I am going to get them tomorrow)and try to have some fun. I have a bag full of balloons, so I will be having a blast! *G* B.
Exercise: No. Too tired now and didn't know I would be. Oops. I will exercise for sure tomorrow.

Cats in Boxes Part Deux!

Oreo almost looks like she's been put in time out. HA! Cats and boxes; Good golly, they are strange. And the sad thing is, I keep this box out for the cats.
Today was HOT. And I was dumb. Kidding. Actually I was a little bored and Son was driving me batty to go swimming at the YMCA today, so to distract hi until time to go, I washed my van. With his help. Now, I say help as if he actually was a help. He tried, and for that I find him adorable (Aw, shoot, I think he's adorable all the time.), but the sun was drying the van almost as fast as I could wash it. And I was on one side and Son was on the other. There I am running around the van with the hose trying to get to the soap on both sides before it dries. You can laugh if you want. I was. *G* It kept him busy for a bit, and that's all I needed.
But, the upside is my van is shiny and Son was having a good time. An hour later we went to the YMCA where I placed the kids in kid play while I worked out for a bit over half an hour on an Elyptical machine. THEN when I finished the kids were able to go swimming. They spent over an hour in the pool and had a blast. They didn't want to leave! But, it was getting late and the premiere of The Closer was on tonight! *G*
I'm still waiting for the books I have on hold to come in, and I've added Lean Mean 13 by Janet Evanovich to that list. I'm rereading some books in the mean time. I picked Open Season by Linda Howard off my keeper shelves today to laugh through again. I love the whole condom conversation!
And that's all from me for the night. I hope y'alls mondays went well and that they were free of stress. Have a great tuesday! B.
Exercise: 3.o2 miles on Elyptical machine.

Not the Model, but just as pretty!

I wanted to show y'all that Layla looks exactly like this months cover for Cat Fancy. Unfortunately, the camera I have doesn't take good pictures without the flash. However, see the blue on the cover? That's the same color of my Laylee's (yes, she has many nicknames) eyes. I just get excited when I see another kitty as pretty as Layla!
I. Am. So. Tired. We didn't get into bed on time last night and then I had trouble sleeping, so I got a total of about 4 hours sleep when we had to get up and get ready for Church. *sigh* Is it bad that I almost zoned out, Son did zone out, he slept through half the Mass. And it was funny because the lady sitting next to us asked me if he slept at that time everyday, or if it was just a sunday thing, because he kids did that every sunday when they were little. I had to confess that it was a sunday thing! After that we went by BAM and I picked up the RT magazine. I was good, I didn't buy any books! (I'm waiting on 3 from the library.) Then, Blessed Be, home. Where I had to iron Chris' clothes for work and do laundry and then make dinner. Nt counting cleaning up and picking up the garage after the kids dragged out every toy they had! *g*
It is now almost 11pm and I am about to sack out. Early for me, usually I am a night owl, but I'm too tired tonight.
OMGosh, did I tell you what happened yesterday while we were at the mall? We were looking at the gorgeous china in Macy's and were getting ready to leave when this older woman walked by and let out the largest ('scuse the language here) fart, looked around and then continued to walk off! Chris and I weren't 5 feet away from her when she did this. We just looked at each other and started to giggle quietly. We grabbed each others arms and walked to the other side of the department and just gave in to a huge fut of giggles. Chris said he didn't know that Macy's sold Duck calls! That started another round of giggles! Of course Daughter wanted to know why her Mom and Dad were giggling like loons in the middle of Macy's and we told her. She cracked up! Son didn't get it. Now, I know I shouldn't have laughed. But, c'mon, what would you have done?
*Sigh* I can barely think, let alone type, so I'm heading to bed. I hope you had a good sunday. One that was peaceful and relaxing. If not, I really am sorry. Hopefully Monday will be better for you. I send you all smiles and cyber-hugs! B.
Exercise: Oops. I forgot and am too tired now. I will tomorrow.

Cat tricks acheived by special effects. KIDDING!

Butterscotch looks like he's begging for a chance to play with the "birdie". Notice his brother, Fireball, hiding behind the kitty tent. He's also ready to punce the "birdie". Ya'll have never seen cats go so crazy in all time, ever, until you've seen these cats go after this toy. Daughter had them PANTING because they refused to stop playing with it. I can't just put it up, I have to actually put it in the hall closet where they can't see it or get to it. Talk about obsessed. *g*
Today was very productive. We managed to get the old dining chairs taken off. We also signed up for a membership to the YMCA near our house. Chris likes to swim (the ONLY exercise he LIKES) and the kids will enjoy the pool. I'll sign them up for swimming lessons next month. I am a 'cheap' person when it comes to paying for certain things and will hunt out a good deal a mile away. I wish that could have applied to the membership! Whew! Anyway, *g*, after that we went to the mall. Chris needed a new pair of pants for work. (Why can't manufacturers reinforce the back pockets where men keep their wallets?) I also needed a pair of hose. See, I am obviously a freak of nature. My legs are blaringly pale and finding a pair of hose close enough to my skin tone is very difficult. As in "nude" looks dark, very dark, on me. Normally I wear black hose because most of my dresses are black. But, I have one dress that I can't. Hence the need for the shopping trip. It took 3 stores in the mall to find a color compatable(sp) with my pale self and they were $8. I wish I could say they would last me a long time. But, if ever there was a person who was deadly to hose, it's me. I don't do anything special. I am careful with them, but somehow, they always end up with runs. Please tell me I'm not the only one who hates to wear them, but am dangerous with them? Make me feel better. Say yes! *g*
Oops. Forgot to mention we found gumballs for Son, but they are nasty and tough! (I did some sleuthing when we got home and found some online that can not possibly taste as bad as the ones we found at ToysRUs.) They should be here by the end of the week.
When we got home I realized I had been gipped out of my trip to the bookstore! But, that didn't bother me so much as the fact that I have to buy a bathing suit. ACK! Is there anything in a womans life worse than a bathing suit? (Yes, I do know there are many things worse, but imagine yourself in that small flourescent cubicle trying them on and THEN tell me!) So, I skipped it all and ordered one online. From Lands End. And they have that virtual model, so it's not as though you don't have an expectation of how it would look. If it's bad I can send it back. And my ego won't take as bad a bashing. (Not to mention the thought of germs from others who have tried on the suit off the rack at a store, eeeewwwww.)
Sounds like a lot of shopping. But, considering that I haven't worn or bought a bathing suit in over 8 years....... Yeah, I am that sad. And considering that I don't buy myself many things.....(except for books *g*)..... (I'm trying not to feel guilty here.) I still feel guilty. Sheesh.
I hope when ya'll spend money on yourselves, you don't make yourself feel guilty like I do. I also hope that your saturday was interesting and fun. I hope your day made you smile. I ALSO hope that your sunday is peaceful and relaxing! B.

Just a good 'ol boy!

I know I don't post too many pictures of Tiger, but he looked so handsome out on the Porch today! Tiger, to remind y'all, is the stray that adopted is when we moved into our home 3 years ago. He was a without a home, and if you know anything about me, you know I can't NOT feed a kitty that has no home. I can say that now, he has a home, ours.(We think he had a family, but that they left him when they moved, because he's super sweet.) He stays outside because the other kitties hate his guts. We bought him a dog (cat) house and a cedar bed for when it's cold. But, don't worry, when it's too cold, we bring him in, we just have to keep him seperated from the other kitties.
Let's see......went to the movies today and watched Nancy Drew. It was cute and sweet. The mystery was almost predictable in it's outcome, but hey, I was an adult! DUH, I figured it out. It was rated PG but I believe it's only because of the small bit of violence that the movie contained. (Car chases, attempted run-over, hit with shovel, etc.) The kids loved it. Even Son. Daughter wants to add it to our DVD collection when it becomes available. And the only complaint I have is that the snack bar charges highway robbery for it's snacks. I spent $19.75 for 2 kids things and a bottled water and nachos. (Sue me, I was hungry and hate popcorn.) After the movie we went and bought Chris' giftcard for Father's Day and also bought the cats a new "birdie" toy. THEY ARE GOING SPASTIC over the thing. It's hilarious.
I didn't make it to the bookstore and the library still hasn't gotten in the other books I have on hold. So, I am without new-to-me books to read. I am hoping to get by BAM tomorrow. I DID manage to go grocery shopping this evening. I swear you can stand there and watch prices rise! *g*
Anyway, that was our day. I hope everyone had an enjoyable day and that your saturday is warm and fun. Seriously! Go Play! B.

See the weird eyes?

Butterscotch can be especially sweet. He adores Son and every day when Son wakes up, Butterscotch rubs all over Son's head. For some reason though, Butterscotch seems as though his thought processes are a bit.....slow. Sweet and incredibly dumb. But, he sure does love his tent.
Today we had a spectacular rain storm. Thunder boomed and lightening bounded across the sky and I loved it. Mainly because I was inside my dry house looking out on it. I'm sure if I had been IN it, I may have thought differently! *G*
I tried Witchling last night and it just wasn't my cuppa'. Then I tried the mystery I picked up(title in yesterdays post, because I just sat down and can't remember the title or author, and am too sleepy to get up and walk across the room to get it!), but it seemed like a watered down, formulated version of the Stephanie Plum books. Heroine never has any money except what she has on credit, mother issues, and 2! Count them 2! Men vying for her. I couldn't even finish it. And now I feel really bad about not liking it. One good thing about it? I got it from the library, so I didn't pay for it. I needed something to make me smile after feeling as though 2 different books had failed me, so I reread Undead and Unwed by MaryJanice Davidson. Something about that book just makes me smile and laugh. I think it's the heroine. She's not necessarily TSTL, but her snark is hilarious, especially when confronted with Nostradamus for the first time! *G* Tonight I'll give the Linda Howard book another read. I hope I still like it!
Hmm, nothing exciting around here today except the storm. I did finally, after 4 days, cut up the watermelon I bought this past weekend. Son adores watermelon and has been after me for days to cut it up. It's just that it's SO messy and a pain in the butt to cut the rind off and then cube it. And I can't get Chris to do it, because last time I asked, he almost cut himself. No joke. Well, okay, laugh. After years of making fun of me because I am pathetic with a knife (Hello! I cut my hand at Outback, trying to slice a piece of bread. Want to scare a waitress? Drip blood and ask for a bandaid. *G*), I get to return the favor. Hey, that's what marriage is for! *g*
Tomorrow I have errands to run and am taking the kids to see the new Nancy Drew movie. Daughter already knows to suspend belief that the movie will be like the books and Son wants to see it because he likes the Nancy Drew computer games we check out from the library. I want to see it because it looks cute, and I haven't been to the movies since Night at the Museum was in theaters. After the movie I need to pick up a gift card to Starbucks for Chris and run by Marshall's, (we're out of gumballs), not to mention I need to go grocery shopping. *sigh* I sense a very busy day ahead of me! I wonder if I can sneak in a trip to the bookstore? *g* OOOOH, I almost forgot. I found a new website devoted to romance reviews and I have to say, it is hysterical! I laughed so hard over one of the reviews I cried. One is set in poem format, another is set to music-like a song. Anyway, y'all have to check it out if you're interested. It's called RipMyBodice.com. Seriouslly, I loved it.
And that's it from me tonight. I am itching (literally) to take a shower and go to sleep. I hope your thursday was interesting and fun, but if not there is always tomorrow! Have a wonderful friday. B.
Exercise: 45 minutes of Yoga, another 5 minutes with weights.

RIP to the Feather Toy

The cats luuurve this toy. So much so that they have killed it. Yes, it is true. They have over-loved it. I must now go purchase another one. I will tell you that I won't ever complain about the $6 cost. Because the HOURS of entertainment our family gets out of watching the cats go WHACKO! over the thing is worth every single penny.

So, I said I was going to exercise and I did. I walked on the treadmill for 4 miles and noticed a strange reaction when I got off. I itched, and stung (sting). Alot. And the skin that is sun burned around my neck and chest is bubbled up. Every one now, say it with me, EEWWWWWWWWW! I look like a science experiment gone wrong.

I also made it to the Library today. I picked up the two books I told y'all about last post and I also picked up two other books. Knock Off by Rhonda Pollero and Kiss Me While I Sleep by Linda Howard (a reread for me). I noticed I'm not the only ticked that the Kay Hooper book, Blood Dreams was delayed in publication, by comments made. I have no clue how publishing works, but to delay a book that long when it was advertised for an earlier date, can't be good for the author, or the publisher. (Not to mention the readers! *G*)

I'm hoping y'all have had a pleasant day and that your thursday is not only interesting but full of good-will. I wish smiles and laughter for you. B.

exercise: 4 miles at 3.5 speed at 7 incline, on the treadmill.

Tuxedos come with all color ties!

Some of you may remember this picture from last year. I admit to maybe terrorizing the cats just a bit with silly things like this. Funny thing is, Oreo didn't seem to mind! (New picture tomorrow, I just saw this in my review and had to smile.)

You know how I say my day was boring and y'all tell me it wasn't? Y'all are wrong. Today was totally boring. Chris took my van today so that he could drop off the items for donation that have been stacked in my garage. The kids and I got their schoolwork done, I did laundry, made dinner, searched the internet for a new car.......for next year. Because I'm weird that way. See, next year, bye-bye van. I am tired of the gas guzzler. I put $30 of gas in last thursday and Chris had to put $20 in tonight on the way home. Ugh! And that's not driving it every day! Not to mention it has over 100,000 miles on it. *g*

And I promised to place my list of books I'm looking forward to, well, here goes!

Now, I know I'm overlooking a few books, but, um, I can't remember them! *G* And I am sure I will add to these. Seriously, which is kind of scary.

As a matter of fact, I have 2 books in at the library I need to pick up tomorrow. Witchling by Yasmine Galenorn and Pants on Fire by Meg Cabot. Oh, and if you can't tell, my reading tastes are a bit varied. *g* I haven't even researched the mysteries (usually cozies) and suspense/thrillers or Sci-fi books that I will be hunting down. As a matter of fact, Linnea Sinclair has a new book due out in Nov/Dec time frame! It's called The Down Home Zombie Blues. Trust me when I say the premise is interesting and I'm looking forward to it.

I hope the day was smooth and pleasant for you. And I wish a fun wednesday upon you all! B.

Exercise: *sigh* Not tonight. I'm afraid that when I sweat it will irritate the sunburn. BUT, I PROMISE tomorrow I will not let it stop me!

Look at her GO!

Here's Daughter climbing the "rock wall" at the Games on Saturday. She did really well and made it to the top. She bopped the buzzer and then started back down.
Today was normal, except I stayed in my nightie for as long as I could stand it! (My nighties are some of the few articles of clothing that won't rub the sunburn.) After I finally got dressed (Jeez! I sound like such a lazy bones!) I was able to get everything I could done. I know I said I was going to exercise today, but there's no way to do so without being in pain, and I have to tell y'all, when it comes to pain I am a complete wuss!
I meant to read today, but was distracted with laundry, schoolwork for the kids and preparing my budget for the next couple of weeks. Um, not to mention spending WAY too much time on the computer today. I was compiling a list of books that will be released over the next 7 months, that I want to read. Notice I said read, not purchase. I am hoping the library will get at least a few of them in. Don't get me wrong, I love to support authors, I know they work hard. It's just that my budget is limited and my list is LONG. I will be posting it soon and I hope y'all will let me know if you're going to read any of them, or if there are others y'all are aware of that I may have missed.
Chris has decided to continue on with his Master's degree, although he did drop a class today(Project Management). He was worried that he would fail it and knew that dropping it wouldn't lower his GPA, whereas failing it would! AND thanks to some great advice (HI DRU!), he ordered one of those books for dummies about the class. He is pretty certain that the the next class will be easier considering it is on Database Concepts and he used to be involved with all that when he was in the military. He's also on the look-out for an IT job in his company. His supervisor warned him that he wouldn't let go of Chris easily! *G*
Anyway, that was my day. I'm sure y'all had more fun than I did, but we each live different lives and that's one of the reasons we enjoy others! I hope your monday was stress free, or at least not too much stress involved. May your tuesday be filled with a bit of laughter and a few smiles! B.

Cats and boxes.

Fireball felt the need to stake his claim to this box that had been slated for the recycle bin. I don't know why cats love boxes so much. Do you think it's the texture or the smell?
Today was pretty good. We made it to Church this morning and then home. Normally after Mass we go outside to say hello to the Priest and whoever may be milling around. Today we did that, but in a rather hurried manner as the sun felt like fire upon my skin! I was SO happy to get home and put on my sloppiest, not to mention, most comfortable shirt and shorts. I have been slathering my skin with aloe vera and popping ibuprofen all day.
Chris made dinner this evening and did a fantastic job. We also had a long talk this afternoon about how he's struggling in his latest class for his Master's. He says part of the problem is that he is getting a Master's in an area he used to work in, but doesn't anymore and therefore doesn't have a way to relate it to his every day. Then we talked about his maybe applying for an IT job within his company because he wants to get back to that type of work and he thinks he might stop working on his Master's and work at another Bachelor's instead, in the area he would rather be( Computer Science). In shorter words, he wants to get back to programming and all that (databases, networking, etc.). I don't blame him. I know he's a computer geek and although he may be really good at his job, he isn't as happy in it as if he was doing something he loves. So we'll see where this leads him. I know we'll talk about it more. It's just funny, when he started his educational oddessy(sp) I asked him if he'd be happier with a Computer Science degree. I guess he should have listened to me. (I was very nice when I told him that, too. *G*)
So I spent part of the afternoon researching this other degree he thinks he would be happier with. Turns out a few colleges around here have wonderful programs. I'll compile the info and then give it to him and we'll talk again. He's starting to really listen to me know, about things other than the kids and finances. *g*
What else? Hmm, I didn't read anything today, I meant to but couldn't concentrate enough. The kids played outside all day and had a blast.
The funniest part of our day was when Son's balloon started to lose it's weightlessness, so we gave it to Chris and he used the helium to talk like Micky Mouse!! HAHAHA! I love that! (I may be partail, it's how he first proposed. *GGG*) The kids laughed so hard I thought I would have to pick them up off the floor.
And that's our (my) day. I hope everyone else had a good time and that you were able to relax and rest. I also hope that your monday is stress-free and smooth! Don't forget to smile! B.
Exercise: Not tonight. I will try and get back to Yoga tomorrow. I hope.
p.s. there is a picture below this post of my hot pink skin.

Can you say "OUCH!"

My lovely sunburn. Notice how white I am on the INSIDE of my arms. Yeah, the outside? Not so much! Funny thing is, you can tell where my necklace lay on my neck/chest. Excuse the shirt, one of the few that won't rub too badly.
And your public service announcement: Always remember your sunblock!

Guess what we did?

Here is a picture of one of the Pipers Bands that we saw today. We really enjoyed watching them and it was so odd to see the judges cirlcle them with a clipboard while they were playing. We took a small bit of video with them as well, but I have NO idea how to post it!
We had a really great time today. The Games were a bit bigger than we expected, but not too large that we couldn't see everything in an afternoon. And we did see everything! The kids enjoyed the area set aside with mini-games of the adult athletics and the misting tent was the biggest hit. Daughter climbed a "rock wall" and Son made a shield with his Dad. The committee who hosted the Games were so nice. If the kids got their "passport" stamped by playing a few of the games or crafts, then they gave them a balloon, a tattoo, a coloring book and crayons, and they got to keep the crafts they made.
Chris loved the meat pies and bridies (bry-dees). He's missed being able to just pop up the road and by a Cornish pastie if he wanted. Unfortunately there were no pasties there, but I don't think he minded.
We got to hear a fabulous band, Albannach. They were quite the show-stoppers with their drums and pipes. Listening to them, I'm not certain it was possible to stand still, your foot just wanted to tap and your body follow the music.
Of course we did leave with some souveniers. Daughter bought herself a pair of trinity knot earrings, Son was bought a wooden sword and sheild set, Chris bought a CD of the group we liked and I? Well, my souvenier is my nice new SUNBURN! I am so dark read I'm almost purple. I can't believe I forgot sunscreen, especially considering how hot is it was there today. And I'm the only one! Son has a pink neck, Daughter is fine, Chris has a red nose and red neck and I have a red neck, a red chest (v-neck tshirt), red forehead, red nose, and red arms in the traditional farmers pattern. *sigh* I have been slapping (ooh, no not slapping, more like gently wiping) aloe vera on myself all evening. Church is going to be fun tomorrow. OH, and did I mention I did the games with only 2.5 hours sleep, because I could not fall asleep until it almost time to get up? (However, I did reread the first Sofie Metropolis book by Tori Carrington. Funny as ever!) Yep, not alot of sleep and after the games? Grocery shopping! Yay! NOT! The kids were tired, the heat and sun ended up giving Chris a migraine and I was oohing and trying not to move a muscle while grocery shopping. JEEZ! (By the way, what is it with people? You'd never believe how many people stared at me in the grocery store! What? Have they never seen a person who forgot sunblock?)
But, we are home now and I am exhausted. The kids are also a bit tired and Chris has treated his migraine. Everyone has had dinner and I'm trying not to fall asleep posting this! *g*
I hope everyone else had fantastic day, that you had fun where ever you are, and that your sunday is peaceful to make up for it! A smile (sorta looks like a grimace, but really, a smile) for you all! B.
Exercise: I didn't last night and there's no way in hades I'm sweating right now!

They are waiting for Son to play with them again! He's on the couch and has the wand. *g* Butterscotch is waiting, not patiently, but hoping for a glimpse he can attack!

Today has been pretty normal, until I blew up at the kids for doing something they knew they weren't supposed to do. It's over and they realize they did the wrong thing, but it took me forever to calm down and I hate that. I hate that I can get angry with my kids. I hate that I lost my temper enough to yell at the both of them. I don't use the word hate very often. I don't believe in encouraging it. But, right now, I HATE that part of me that lost my temper. I try my hardest to stay patient and even tempered and, well, happy. Today, *sigh* it wasn't enough. I guess I'm just not a good person today. AND I did apologize and tell them both how much I love them.

So, I hope y'all had a good day.

I need to exercise, but don't feel like it tonight. I may guilt myself into it before bed. So, we'll see. If so, I'll update.

I'm off to read a book. Have a wonderful saturday. We're going to the Highland Games near us, and I hope that whatever you have planned is FUN! B.

Envious of Cinderella

Midnight is laying on Cinderella's dress. I'm trying to figure out if that is perverted or not. *g* What is it with cats and barbie clothes? Layla will occasionally carry a piece or 2 out of Daughters room. And now it seems to that Midnight has picked up on that habit.
Yes, I really do have the strangest cats!
The Outlaws called this morning and wanted to know if it was okay to take the kids to a movie this afternoon. Of course I said yes. They took the kids to see Shrek3 while I went to the UBS. The ladies at the UBS are so sweet, I've been going there since we moved back here almost 4 years ago, and they have watched the kids growing up. They even asked after the kids today! Am I awful in that I dislike the new person they've hired, because this person has a predjudice against romance, it's affecting their job, in that things are being shelved in the wrong places due to ignorance of the genre. Like placing the Princess Diaries books in the adult romance section, and historical romance in the contemporary romance section, etc.. It just gets on my nerves. The older women who work there, and are so nice, don't seem to mind when I point out that something is in the wrong place. I don't mean to be a pain about it, but as a customer, I expect the books to be shelved properly. As for the books I picked up, I found Slow Burn by Julie Garwood and Goddess of the Sea by P.C. Cast.
My new phone arrived today. After the hassle of setting it up (transfering the old to the new), I am at a loss. This phone is way more advanced than my last. I just hope I am smart enough to figure out how to use the thing!
I was going to mow the lawn today, because it's getting a bit shaggy, but the heat of the day practically held me prisoner inside. It reached 94 here and with the humidity......well, there was no way I could have cut the grass without feeling like a withered old something or other. So, I'll either get it when the temperature drops s tiny bit this weekend, or I'll guilt Chris into it! *G*
Anyway, sorry to rattle on and on. I do get lonely, even with the kids and Chris, so I'm sorry t bore the heck out of y'all. I hope your thursday was stress free. AND I hope that your friday is fun and not too hot where ever you are! B.

Layla makes schoolwork look easy.

Layla decided to interrupt Son's schoolwork the other day by flopping down right in front of us. She made a cute distraction, for a few minutes. But, then we got right back to work.
Today was depressing. As in, I didn't feel well and my mood was low. It's not easy being a mom on days when I would rather stay in bed. But, the kids were cared for, schoolwork was done and even laundry made it's usual appearance. I even managed to exercise. Of course, I'm also out of books so tomorrow (rather, today, because I'm up late) a trip to the UBS is in order. Not the library because I've basically plowed through the new book selection recently. I'm still waiting for them to get 2 newer books in. Um, yeah, I've been waiting on those books for over 2 months.
Oh, and the Tori Carrington book was very good. I'll have to go back and reread the first one again.
I hope everyone else had a good wednesday. And I wish a stress free thursday to you all! B.
Exercise: 4 miles on the treadmill at 7 incline and 3.5 speed.

Wild Kingdom at my house!

I am still not sure how I managed to snap this picture of Oreo, but good golly doesn't she look fierce? And all over a bit of ribbon on attached to a string and wand. She will growl and try to run off with it if she "catches" it. It is now official. I have the strangest cats in the world. *g*
Today has seemed way more busy than usual and for no unusual reason. The kids and their schoolwork, housework, making dinner, laundry and ironing all in one evening have made me a bit worn out. AND I still need to cut Chris' hair! I did Son's last night. One bit if good news is that my new phone will be here friday. Now all I need to do is learn everything about it. Sounds easy right? Nope. You forget, I am the techno-goober! My dvd/vcr player hates me and I don't even know how to work all the functions on the cellphone I have right now and I've had it almost 2 years!
I have posted a new book review below and I hope you read the book because it was fantastic and I can't believe I have to wait almost a year for the next in the series! That's so far away!
Because there was nothing but repeats on tonight, we popped in Clue and watched it. It's satisfying that the kids enjoy the same movies I did when I was younger. I am hoping to find a few of the others I enjoyed when I was young as well. Like "The Private Eyes", "Under the Rainbow"and "Murder by Death". If I remember correctly, all of these are funny and I remember them with smiles. I know they are not cinematic masterpieces, but I know I laughed and that's enough. What movies do you remember fondly? Are they funny or are they serious?
I hope y'all had a good tuesday. I hope you had fun and if not, then were at peace once at home. Have a great wednesday! B.

At The Edge by Cait London

At The Edge by Cait London was a powerful book whose characters seemed to leap straight from the pages and into the imagination! All I can say is "WOW!"
Claire Brown was quite content to live in the wilds of rural Montana. One of the Aisling triplets, born with special "gifts", she was glad to escape humanity and it's uncontrollable emotions. With no other neighbors, except the elderly woman who befriended her, Claire is living a peaceful existence. But, Claire's hideaway is soon disturbed when her elderly neighbor dies, leaving her home to her nephew, Neil Olafson.
Neil misses his Aunt terribly but decides to move into his inheritance and move his business onto the property. Neil is also tormented by memories and the inability to recieve closure from the disappearance of his 6 month old son, 8 years ago.
As Claire and Neil fight their attraction for one another, a dark force attacks Claire. Neil becomes her Protector, seeking to find answers to who would want to harm Claire. Each has secrets in their past that can harm the present and destroy any future the two may have together. They decide to join forces to try and find Neil's son. Will they find they are stronger together, or will their new found connection lead to their ultimate downfall?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can not wait for the second in this trilogy of the Aisling Sisters: Claire (the youngest), Tempest (the middle triplet) and Leona (the oldest) The next book is due out April of 2008! Right now that seems like a very long wait.

Tilting at windmills, or is it Tilting lights?

I don't know about you, but seeing this made me worried. Notice how the light is not straight? It was 10 minutes before this picture was taken. *g* Oreo and Fireball are watching and doing their darndest to catch the moth that was sitting on the light. And Midnight? He was curious as to what was in the sink, because yeah, that's his fanny sticking out of my sink!

So, we received a call at 9am this morning and Chris didn't recognize the number and almost didn't answer. BUT, he did and it was the repair guy from Dell calling to set up a time TODAY he could come fix my computer. Seems Dell overnighted the parts. I am now typing on my computer with my links and favorites and am SO happy to not have to share a computer with Chris. I did ask the repair guy whether it was normal to have so many repairs of the same kind on one computer and he said "no" and that it was "unusual". I assured him I take very good care of my computer, because I do. *g*

I had to run a couple of errands to do and while out picked up 2 new books from WW (I needed milk.), Dirty Laundry a Sofie Metropolis novel by Husband and wife team "Tori Carrington" and At the Edge by Cait London (part of a 3 book series). I have heard good hype about the Cait London book and the tori Carrington book? I read the first in the series and enjoyed it, but waited until this one was released in paperback to pick it up. (Um, HI! I have a budget!)

Chris made dinner tonight! And he did a fantastic job. While he did that I was able to get my exercise, yoga, done for the day. Oh, I forgot to mention that Chris took the day off just to be here when the Computer repair guy came in case there were any questions that I couldn't answer, being a total techno-goober (me). But, no questions arose and we had an enjoyable afternoon together.

I hope everyone else had an enjyable day as well and that your tuesday is nice and if not relaxing than at least peaceful. B.

Exercise: yoga for 45 minutes and 5 minutes of weights afterwards.

Withdrawal!

I am, I am going through computer withdrawal and it's not fun! I miss being able to look up anything I want whenever I want. Who knew the computer could become so much a part of my life. I'm a total techno-goober, but miss my technology being at my fingertips.
I hope everyone had a good weekend. What did y'all do? I hope some fun was involved. WE spent the day moving the computer armoire into the kitchen after selling the old one the kids were using as an armoire for their movies and small tv. Because, HI!, I don't like watching cartoons or The Pacifier 5 times in a row. And yes, when Son gets on a particular 'kick' he will watch a movie 3 or more times in a row. I. Kid. You. NOT. Of course, he can also recite all these things from memory too. At 5 years old, he knows more about Star Wars than most adults. And I'm not kidding. Did I tell y'all he asks to do more of his schoolwork than is required? Yup. The boy is too smart. Of course Daughter is too. And she is still bothered by something, because she is having trouble sleeping through the night. I've always had trouble like that, so I don't know how worried to be about it. As long as I can remember, back to when I was 8 or 9 years old, my Mom would freak because I couldn't sleep well at night. I still don't. But, I'm keeping an eye on the situation with daughter, so don't think I'm not.
I finished the Nina Bangs book, A Taste Of Darkness. It was a fun read, if a bit spicy.*g*
I hope ya'll have a good monday and that your day is smooth with no complications. B.

MIssing y'all!

Hi, just wanted to let y'all know I miss everyone and can't get to my pictures to post one of the kitties. I'm on Chris' computer right now and definitely missing mine! I hope everyone had a great day. The yard sale was a failure in the respect that we have too much left! But, Chris made a promise with me that he would donate anything left and it's out in the garage right now waiting to go this week to either Goodwill or The Salvation Army. We sold a couple of things for a grand total of $40. Sad, yes? BUT, we decided we would have fun with the money we made so we went out to dinner and rented a few movies. All in all a good evening.
I will visit as many of ya'll as I can, but unfortunately I don't have access to my Favorites list, where I have stored the blog addresses for you all. So, I may miss commenting on y'all sites until my computer is fixed.
Have a blessed sunday and I hope you rest and recharge for the week ahead. B.

Cat in a Box. (Dr. Suess would make that funny!)

What is it with cats and boxes? Serioulsy? This is the one we brought Daughters Barbies home from the Outlaws in the other day. Layla was eager to get into the box the minute we brought it in the house. She even smacked at Patches who was curious about it! You, of course, can see who won.

Well, I will have to do my blogging on another computer tomorrow. My AC adapter fried itself today. This is the second time this has happened. I've had to have my motherboard replaced 3x so far and my hard drive once. I've been a staunch Dell fan, until now. Now, I have had enough. Not to sound pathetic, but my well-being is being disrupted. This computer is my life-line to the outside world. The only friends (besides Chris, and my neighbor) I have are online. The only people I have anything in common with are the people I have met here, online. I have blogged many times on how I am not good in social situations, or if you want to get technical, around other people. I have always been this way. And I realize I can't change who I am deep down, and to be honest, I am okay this way. Until something disrupts and depresses me, like my computer acting up!
Speaking of, I had to get off my computer and onto Chris'! My battery got too low! Anyway, my computer won't be fixed until sometime until after wednesday(I'm hoping no later), but I think I'll still be able to get online, just in a limited capacity since Chris takes his computer to work everyday. Personally, I think they should replace my computer, but I know they won't. I will say, at this point, even though they will probably fix it, I will NEVER buy another Dell again.

At least I have been reading this evening. I started and finished Blood Price by Tanya Huff last night and now I'm reading The Nosy Neighbor by Fern Michaels. I don't know how the yard sale tomorrow will go, Chris is being SLOW about getting all the stuff together. I've done all I am going to do, it was his idea. He can finish it up! I hope everyone has a wonderful saturday and that y'all have some fun. I foresee NO fun in my day, as I have a lot of errands to run, not to mention Church and the Yard Sale. I wish joy for your day! B.
