Book Mom

A Southern Mom who is trying to be less shy and loves books.

Whistle while I work!

That title has nothing to do with this picture. But more with my day. I couldn't resist posting this picture of Patches taken about a week ago by Daughter as she was up on top of the cabinets.

Today has been pretty boring. I felt no need to go go anywhere today. As a matter of fact I didn't want to go anywhere today, I'm bone tired and my wrists and hands are hurting today (on one arm it's all the way to my elbow). But, there were several things that needed to be done, so I took care of them. I have done load after load of laundry, swept, mopped and vacuumed. I also made dinner-Chicken Pot Pie-one of Chris and Daughter's favorites. I have picked up around the house and even started reading Bait by Karen Robards. Are y'all reading anything good? I hope some new library books come in soon because after this book I don't have anything to read. Maybe I'll talk the family into visiting the UBS tomorrow. IF I can get them out of here early tomorrow. I am the only punctual member (usually early, actually) of my family. How are you? Are you punctual or perpetually late? *G*

I don't have anything else to talk about. It's been a slow week for noteworthy events, sorry. I hope y'all had an interesting and enjoyable day. I wish a relaxing and pleasant Saturday for y'all. Goodnight and Blessings, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 75. That's it. I took the day off from anything else.

Occupied Boxes filled with kitties and love!

Here are Butterscotch, Midnight and Layla sleeping in the boxes in front of the window in the kitchen. Layla and Midnight have a buddy-buddy thing going on in this picture that made me just "Awwwww". Just another sunny day in our kitchen. *G*
I could not sleep last night making today quite tiring. Add in some new stresses and today was SO not my favorite day. I know that it's said God won't give you more than you can handle, but I have to wonder how strong I'm supposed to be before I break. *sigh* It's nothing that's totally bad, just unfortunate timing for something we were expecting in October that has now been moved to the end of December. I'm dealing with it. I'm trying to be the uplifting one of the two of us with suggestions on how to handle everything going on and Chris is following my lead. Let's hope everything works out, I could use some good news.
In nicer news the kids and I visited the library this evening and I've placed my last three entries into the Adult Summer Reading Contest. That brings my total up to 34 entries and I'm hoping it's enough. *g* AND in the category of nice news the library finally added two books I want to the online catalog and I have now placed them on hold and hope they come in soon. I didn't see any books at the library I was interested in this evening, but I did pick up a double feature DVD- Must Love Dogs and You've Got Mail. I have read the book for Must Love Dogs but haven't seen the movie and I felt like I needed something cute and lively to watch considering how stressful the day became.
This evening, after visiting the library, we met Chris at the Y and he and I worked out. I hadn't planned on going today, just doing something at home, but it ended up being for the best. I don't know why Chris won't work out alone, but it's okay, I'm there for him.
In reading news I started and finished a YA I picked up late last week at the library, Cindy Ella by Robin Palmer. It was so cute and was a good read. There were references to the old Cinderella story-line and also references to an old Judy Blume book that I remember reading when young. I really enjoyed it and will be encouraging Daughter to read the book as well.

I honestly can't think of anything else to chat about tonight. It's been a pretty quiet day, except for the two downpours we had today. The rain is welcome and I'll be happy if we see more soon. Oh, I did want to add something to Daughter's surgery details. Not only will the Doc be taking out Daughter's tonsils, he's going to also take her adenoids as well. Hers have been big since she was little and added to her tonsils, the Doctor thinks it would be best to go ahead and take them out as well.
That's all. I hope y'all had a low-key and enjoyable Thursday. I wish a Fun and Delightful Friday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 74, 2 miles on the treadmill and 25 minutes weight machines. (I use the weight machines instead of the actual free weights because of less strain on my hands and wrists.)

More than 16oz.!

(Meaning the size bottles. *G*) Pepper took over this box no more than five minutes after the last water bottle was taken out. She's claimed this one as her own. But has graciously agreed to share with the other kitties. *G* And yes, she does look slightly cross-eyed in this picture.

Well, today was eventful. We made it to Daughter's Doctor appointment with the ENT. He has decided that her tonsils should come out. Especially since one is larger than the other and she has already been on two different courses of antibiotics. We were going to schedule her surgery (Out-patient-How cool is that?) for August, but we were told she can't be very physically active for 2 weeks afterwards. For my tom-boy Daughter that was horrendous. *G* Not to mention, she has that Martial Arts competition in early November. So, we're scheduling the Surgery for early December. As for it being out-patient, we were told the surgery itself only takes 45 minutes and then she'd have to stay for about 3 hours afterwards to keep an eye on her. Then we can take her home. She's excited about the "all you can eat" ice-cream afterwards. (I promised. *G*) (Um, keep an ear out for ice cream sales please so I can stock up, please.) After that we headed to the Y where I was supposed to meet Chris, but he's having issues with his on-line class and had to go straight home. I stayed for Zumba and Son took the class with me. He was so cute he had a couple of the other ladies smiling at him. *G* I decided to push myself a tad and took Yoga right afterwards and then we headed home. The issue with Chris' class wasn't straightened out so they've moved his start date to next week. We made dinner (Make your own salads, YUM!) and I negated all the hard work I did at exercising by making chocolate chocolate chip brownies. To be good, though, I cut them small. *G*
I am STILL reading the Jen Lancaster book. I'm almost finished with it, but haven't finished yet because of all the activities of the last couple of days. I hope to finish it tonight and then start on another book. That contest through my library ends Friday and I want to turn in a few more review cards. I had no idea I was this competitive. Of course if you're going to wave a $50 Barnes & Noble card in front of me and of yeah I'm going to try and win it. *G*

That's all from my corner of the internet. *G* It's been a long day and while I'm not yet freaking out over the fact that Daughter is going to have surgery (My baby!) I almost feel relieved that there's a resolution. I hope y'all had a good day. One filled with good times, good books and lots of smiles. I wish a laughter and happiness filled Thursday. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 73, 50 minutes of Zumba, 1 hour of Yoga.

Oreo, The Stalker Kitty!

Daughter took this picture of Oreo last night. This is the look I see whenever Oreo "talks" to me. At night as we're getting ready for bed by folding down the duvet and brushing teeth and such, Oreo will follow me from one activity to another meowing at me. She doesn't do it to Chris, or the kids when they get ready for bed. Just me. *G* Yet another example of the odd and slightly loony kitties we have. *G* (But, she's also very sweet.)

The day didn't go AS badly as I expected, but there were a few bumps along the way. I arrived on time for my Doctor's visit, but the Doctor couldn't figure out why I was there. I has thought I was there for my Thyroid check-up, but she said we could do that at my physical next month. *sigh* I don't know if it was a mix-up on my part, or theirs, but I'm out my co-pay for them to take my blood pressure (which was fine 120/82) and temperature. I don't like mix-ups like this and I especially don't like that it cost me money. And I had both kids with me while there today. Both were quite rude and kept interrupting me while I was talking to the Doctor. Something they don't normally do. And when I was paying Son kept jabbering away at me so much I accidentally left my library book on the counter! I blame the fact that I hadn't had any caffeine (nothing but water since 10 o'clock since last night) and had low blood sugar. *G* I didn't even notice until I had arrived back home, and that was after stopping at a small store and picking up some caffeine! Luckily, Chris works about 5 minutes from the Doc's office and was able to run by there on his lunch break. (We live about 30 minutes away.) I would have gone back and picked it up, but I had to be here to wait on the refrigerator repair-person. After we had arrived home and had lunch, I puttered around the house picking up and cleaning. And waited and waited. And waited, on the repair-person. At 3pm Chris called and asked if I'd heard anything and I said no. So, he went ahead and got off work so I could take the kids to their Martial Arts class and he could continue to wait on the repair-person. Finally, the repair dude called at 3:35 five minutes after the times I was given. Do you know he really didn't even apologize? Just said he's just noticed that we said 3:30 was the latest we could have them come, and that he was ready to come on over and needed directions. *sigh* I gave him directions, Chris pulled up 5 minutes later and the kids and I (after getting my book from Chris) headed off to the Y for their class. The kids had their class, I worked out and figured out that a Jen Lancaster book is not the best book to take to the Y and read while on the treadmill. I lost count of the times I cracked up laughing and almost fell off. *G* But, I walked (quickly) a bit over 2 miles, put the book up and used the weight machines and then grabbed the kids as their class ended. We headed to the library so Daughter could take care of her volunteer work and I had a hold in, YAY! So, I now have A Hard Bargain by Jane Tesh. We left and after arriving home found out that the repair dude found nothing wrong with the refrigerator. Uh-huh. Chris said the fellow inspected the wiring and everything else and couldn't find a reason for the smell. He suggested we place some cat litter in the freezer for a day or two as it's supposed to work better than baking soda on odors. I don't get it. We didn't spill anything, nothing rotted, the freon is fine, wtheck? At least they didn't charge us for the visit. I think I'd have hit the roof if they had.
Which leads me to now. I am tired. I didn't sleep well last night. And we still have dinner to cook, so I'm posting early so I don't become so tired later on that I forget. *G* (Not to mention there's a strong, STRONG thunderstorm headed our way, the sky is dark and it's not supposed to be plus the loud thunder was a big clue. *G*) I hope y'all had a good day with good books and happy people. I wish a wonderful and slightly wacky Wednesday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 72, 2.12 miles on the treadmill, 25 minutes of weight machines.

My Next Project! & Butterscotch sacks out!

I refinished this chair about ten years ago, so that's not my project because I'm still happy with that. (Can you believe the rocking chair was white at one point?) It's the cushion. It has a wood box frame with old zig-zag looking springs and a few years ago I took the foam off (it was OLD) and just used an oversized throw pillow because at that time we lived in an area that didn't have anywhere to purchase new foam. Now, I'm wondering whether to go ahead and re-do the cushion with new foam and batting and re-cover it. Or whether to just replace with a wooden flat seat instead. What do y'all think? Oh, and this chair is older than I am, it's the one my mother rocked me in and the one I rocked my two in. *G* But, I have no idea on how to research it.

As for the other picture, the one of Butterscotch? The kitties won't even let me get the plastic off the boxes anymore. They just climb in as soon as they can. Here Butterscotch is snoozing away in front of the window in the box. He is awfully funny sprawled out as he dreams away.

I was bad and rested today. Between exercising yesterday and all the cleaning I did I was sore, so took it easy today. Tomorrow on the other hand, I don't have that option. I have my Doctors appointment in the morning and have to be home by 1pm because the refrigerator repairman is coming sometime between 1pm and 3:30pm. Then I have to take the kids to Karate, then to Daughter's volunteer work at the library then back to the Y. I get all tense and worried just thinking of it. What if the Doctor is late seeing me? *sigh* If so it will throw off the whole day. So, I took today and am trying not freak about the Doctor's appointment tomorrow for another reason. My blood pressure was a little high last time and I don't want that experience tomorrow, though I feel it's because I become so freaked at these appointments. (We bought a blood pressure cuff after the last visit and I've been fine.)(I just don't want to have to go on yet another medication.) I'm trying to not have that tight feeling in my chest I get from worrying and the only time I lost it tonight was when I was in Yoga. I was too busy to worry! *G* Ack!

I've started rereading the Jen Lancaster book and reached my favorite scene in it last night, where she visits her GYN. I crack up laughing every single time I read the scene. I'll only say it involves a paper gown and a stapler. *G* I know I keep saying it, but I'll say it again, one of these days I'm going to have every one of these books on my keeper shelves, because I love to reread them. (Hint, hint CHRIS!) *G*

That's it from me. It's been a long day. I didn't sleep well last night and need to just try and relax. I hope y'all had a stress-free and simple Monday. I wish a happy and smile-filled Tuesday for y'all. Goodnight and Blessings, B.

It's a stare down!I

Patches, Fireball and Midnight with the toy from the other picture between them. They batted at the toy and each other to see who would back down so they could play with the toy. Midnight won, but Butterscotch snatched it later on pulling more feathers off. *G* It's almost bald now, but they still like it. *G* Which would be why it's sopping wet right now, eeeeewwwwww! *G*
Today has been almost laid back and pretty nice except for the sinus headache I awoke with. Bleh. I say almost because I went to Zumba this afternoon, ran by the library to pick up the book I forgot yesterday (Jen Lancaster's Bright Lights, Big Ass: A Self-Indulgent, Surly Ex-Sorority Girl's Guide to Why It Often Sucks in the City, or Who Are These Idiots and Why Do They All Live Next Door to Me? ) It's a reread, but I couldn't resist, I need a good laugh. *G* As I've said before, one of these days I'm just going to buy a copy of each of her books to keep. I did finish Burn last night. I wanted to really like this book. But, it's just a "meh" for me. Hopefully, her next book Ice will be better. (It's due out in November.) I can't help but feel the further away from any humor she gets, the less I'll be reading.
Oh, yeah, I forgot. After visiting the library I headed home where I finally checked my email, spent about 20 minutes online while eating lunch and then ironed a LOT of clothes. Tell me again why I do this? Oh, yeah, so Chris will look nice for work. I also did some laundry, cleaned the bathrooms and vacuumed. I'm ready for Monday now. *g*
Chris did upload most of the kids schoolwork, he just has a few of Daughter's left to do, so I won't have to mail anything off. Yet. *G* He also made dinner, mostly because I told him I'd done enough today, it was his turn. (I was nice about it. *G* I actually said: "My hand is tingly now, you owe me, what's for dinner?". *G*)
Ending on that, it's time for me to take care of a few more things. I hope y'all had a restful and peaceful Sunday. I wish a sunny and stress-free return to routine for Monday for y'all. Goodnight and Blessings, B.
P.S. Please still keep Tori's Dad in your prayers and send good thoughts! Thanks!
P.P.S. I have a fun site for y'all to check out! www.awfullibrarybooks.wordpress.com

Exercise: 1 Hour Zumba, Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 70.

It's Mine I Say, Mine!

MIdnight did not want to share the toy we picked up last week. Here he has Pepper pinned to the floor to keep her away from it. Poor toy, those feathers didn't last long. (Btw, this toy is available at Target for $4 and I have yet to see a cat resist it.) Thank goodness it still had catnip inside to drive them even crazier. *G*
Today was slow and pretty low-key. We didn't do too much today, we headed to the library because I had a book in (a reread) on hold. While there Chris picked up Watchmen (the graphic novel) and Son picked up some Car and Driver magazines (I swear that boy is car crazy!). I picked up Saints: A Visual Guide by Edward and Lorna Mornin. I'm enjoying the details in the pictures and sculptures. I also picked up Cindy Ella by Robin Palmer (YA). I haven't read anything by this author before and the premise sounded cute. Do you know what I don't have? The book I went in to pick up. *sigh* The librarian forgot to get it for me from the back where they keep them. She was talking to me and there were customers behind me and I became flustered with everything else and forgot to remind her. So, I have to go back tomorrow and pick it up. *g* I feel silly forgetting it. After the library we checked out the new Sporting Goods store they built near us. We need Sparring gear for the kids before their competition in November and this is one of my stressors for next month.
BEWARE: WHININESS AHEAD! *G*
Between buying the kids curriculum, the sparring gear for both kids, Chris' taxes due on his car (that's all by the end of August) and not knowing what the repair bills are going to be for the refrigerator I'm a bit distracted and stressed. Oh and here in our state we have to belong to an accountability agency for homeschoolers, so there's a fee for that as well. Due before we start back, next month. No wonder I'm having trouble sleeping. *G* But, I've decided to try and be relaxed about it instead of frenetic. Um, it's not really working for me. Oh, add in that I have a Doctors appointment Tuesday and that my blood pressure was a bit high last time, maybe because I was annoyed with the Doctor, and I'm worried it'll be that way again. (And another appointment in August.) and Daughter has an appointment with the ENT Wednesday to see how her tonsils are (Same as before, one is okay the other is large.) and whether we need to talk about surgery.
WHININESS PRETTY MUCH OVER. *G*
Okay, change of subject. Sort of. The sparring gear we looked at this evening was nice, too bad the teacher never specifically said what we were looking for besides "Sparring gear= hand pads, feet pads and head gear." They had no sparring gear in Son's size. Everything was for adults. And we weren't sure out of the 4 different kind of hand pads, which ones to purchase for Daughter. We took pictures (I'm sure that looked interesting to the others in the store! *G*) and I'll show them to the teacher on Tuesday. Is it weird we had a good time in the Sporting goods store? *G* We did leave without the sparring gear, but am sure to be back.
In reading news I finished A Case of Imagination by Jane Tesh. I enjoyed the book. The mystery wasn't heavy or suspenseful, but was interesting enough. The personal relationships between the characters could have flowed a bit better, but it was a first book. Happily, I discovered my library has the second book in the series and have placed it on hold. I started Burn by Linda Howard. Unfortunately I'm finding myself underwhelmed like I suspected I might. I'll stick with it and hope I change my mind. I have been looking at the book on Saints this evening while I made cookies for the kids. It's the perfect thing to be looking at because the information for each is short enough where I don't lose my place every time I get up to take the cookies out and put more in to the oven. *G*
That's all from me this evening. Sorry to whine to y'all. I just need to find a way to let all this pressure I feel out, so that I can concentrate on getting everything done with as little fuss or muss as possible. So, please don't hold my whininess against me. *G*
I hope y'all had a relaxing and sneeze free day (What? *G*). I wish a restful and peaceful Sunday for y'all. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.
P.S. Please don't forget to say a prayer or send good thoughts to Tori's Dad!
Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 69. Tomorrow I'm hoping to make it to Zumba! *G*

The boxes are still popular!

Here Pepper is playing with a couple of boxes at the same time. We find it hilarious that she will push, or chase, one box from one side of the kitchen to the other. I wish y'all could have been here the other day when Pepper was under and in one of the boxes at the same time and Fireball stood on top of the box and she batted at him from underneath. *G* The way they make us laugh almost everyday is one of the reasons the boxes will continue to be a part of my kitchen.

It's been an interesting day. The kids and I had another late start to the day thanks to Daughter. (Teens are something else!) But, we finally headed out for grocery shopping. First up was Aldi, where I can not, ever, get out of the store without buying the kids the cappuccino wafer cookies. The smell alone, YUM. Then we headed for me to buy some gas. Then we headed to Sam's where the kids decided to eat their way through with the food samples being handed out. *G* THEN we headed to WW where we picked up the rest of everything else. (Except for 12 pack of cola's. There's a sale somewhere, I just need to remember where......) And the best thing about the shopping? The kids. I kid you not, they didn't fuss, fight or smack. Daughter even helped and Son didn't argue when told no on certain items I wouldn't buy him. It was GREAT! *G* It made the time we spent out together much better instead of me feeling exhausted by the time we arrived home because I've been mediating and stressed all afternoon. I considered it a nice gift from my kids. *G*
In reading news I've started A Case of Imagination by Jane Tesh. I'm about halfway though now and am liking it. The heroine is pretty sharp considering she's mistaken for being a bit simpler due to being an ex-beauty queen. It's also one of the few female P.I. books that isn't paranormal these days. Not that there's anything wrong with that, or better than the paranormals, but it's nice to read of a female P.I. in a regular Mystery. I get the feeling I'm not being clear. Oh, well.
After arriving home and putting everything away we had a quick dinner and have enjoyed Eureka. Though I have to day, next weeks looks hilarious from the previews! *G*It's getting later, and I need to get things moving along towards bed here. I hope that y'all had a fun and happy Friday. I wish a relaxing and laugh-filled Saturday for y'all. I also ask that y'all say a prayer for Tori's Dad please! Goodnight and Hugs to each of you! B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 68. Please tell me all the shopping and heavy lifting at Sam's counts? 40lbs of cat litter is HEAVY. *G*

Yesterday's Visitor!

This is the birdie I was telling y'all about yesterday. Isn't he/she adorable? He/she was also very fussy and didn't like us being on our own porch. When it became dark last night it moved to the backyard and that's the last we saw of it. Chris checked all around the outside of the house before he left for work this morning and didn't see it, so we are going with the hope it's Mom found him/her.

MIL called this afternoon and wanted to visit. I agreed and set about putting the house to rights. I knew we'd have about 40 minutes before they arrived so I vacuumed, cleaned the kitchen and cleaned the couch (I'm sorry, some won't like to hear this, but I love my leather couch. A must with kids, trust me.). I even had time (barely) to grab lunch before they pulled into the driveway. They ended up taking the kids to get ice cream and brought them back and left not long after. Before they left, both checked out the bush/tree we have out back (It's supposed to be a tree, it looks more like a bush.) and both think that it's a Wasp problem. They said the nest was somehow knocked off a branch and sitting at the base of the tree. (So, I called Chris and he bought some Wasp killer on the way home, and has since sprayed it.) And then? I waited for Chris to get home. I wish I could say I've done something productive today besides laundry and cleaning, but no. Drainage is making me slightly dizzy and giving me another headache. Not to mention a sore throat. I can not wait until Fall. Granted, I have allergies all year long, but Fall and Winter don't seem as bad. I wish I could say I've read, too. But, except for a few pages last night I did a very bad thing and have played on the internet instead. I did find some awesome steampunk inspired keyboards and am all caught up on the news around the globe. But, I can also say that I started the mystery by Jane Tesh and am enjoying it so far. I have no idea my reluctance to read the Linda Howard book. I guess I'm worried I won't like it. I prefer her books with some humor like Open Season, To Die For and Drop Dead Gorgeous. I knew I wouldn't like her last book, so chose not to read it. (I knew because the premise was SO not my thing.) I will eventually get around to reading it. And before it's due back at the library. (Who I am currently checking the database everyday because they have 4 new books in that I want and as soon as they are added to circulation? MINE. *G*)

Anyway, other than that there's nothing of interest going on here. It's been very quiet, which I needed, and pleasant today. That said, I hope y'all had a pleasant and quiet Thursday as well. I wish a fun and fantastic Friday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 67. That's it. I'm shoring up my energy for tomorrow's marathon grocery shopping. Ugh.

Aww, Hugs are good!

I would have said something about brotherly love, but I honestly can't tell if Midnight is hugging Butterscotch or trying to choke him. *G* I vote hugging because I prefer to believe in peace and love and living in harmony (even when the cats chase each other around the house fussing at each other, or hey, even when the kids do that as well). And yes, these boxes get moved around during the day and I have to place them all back at night. *G*

I almost forgot to post tonight. My allergies are bugging me like crazy today, resulting in a sinus headache and today has been weird anyway. A not so little baby/young bird somehow ended up in my front bushes next to the front porch and has been screaming at the kids all afternoon. His/her Mom was seen flying around so we're hoping they found each other this evening. No, we didn't touch the little one at all. Also this afternoon one of the kids friends did something amazingly stupid. We figured out that there is a wasp or hornets (or even yellow jackets, it's not like we're trying to get close enough to find out) nest in the back yard and warned the kids to stay away from the area where it was (the same tree/bush where Chris was stung last week) only the kids friend took a tennis ball and threw it AT THE BUSH! Ack. Then, he went to pick it up and was stung. *sigh* His parents have asked that we do something about the wasp/hornet/yellow jackets. Yes, we are, we will. However this kid PROVOKED the stinging sucker! Are all 10 year old boys this crazy or is it just this kid? And we did warn them! Granted, we still haven't bought bug killer. But, give me a break. I'm dealing with Chris and his paperwork to go back to school, AGAIN. I also am pushing him to get the last of the kids tests uploaded so that they can be graded. Add in the refrigerator and Tiger (the stray that adopted not long after we moved in that is a total outside kitty-as in he doesn't like being indoors often and the other kitties hate his guts) who disappeared long enough for me to freak out and then reappeared this Monday with a sore leg and now is quarantined in Daughter's room until he can walk on it and looked like he'd been starved wherever he was and a whole bunch of other things and my week? Needs to be over now. Or I need to go to bed and stay there. *gasp* I need to remember to breathe. *sigh*
So, I am doing what anyone else in all this would do and trying to handle one thing at a time. And the reason I don't upload the kids tests? I don't know how. Me= techno-goober, remember? Next year I'm mailing them all in. Heck at this point I may still mail in the rest of them. I'll give until this weekend and if it's not done? I'll handle it my way. We are taking care of Tiger, btw. He's being given lots of food and made to rest. He's not happy with that last part, either. He tried to limp his way down the stairs tonight. You wouldn't believe how fast he can still move. But, Daughter caught him and he's asleep in her room again. Chris is picking up bug spray tomorrow after work and so far things are on track for Chris to start back next Tuesday online for his Master's. (He took a break for a few months when the job he had was really busy.) I now have a plan for the kids tests. And I will try to handle everything else with calmness.
As for reading? I didn't have time today. I did finish Spellbound in Seattle by Garthia Anderson. I truly like that book just because of the wackiness and have to admit the heroine is funny. Actually, the whole book is funny, but sweet. Now I have all the library books to choose from and don't know where to start. But, I hope to do so and read when I to bed.
That's all from me. I know. That was TOO much from me. Sorry. Today just kind of piled up on me and I had to "talk" it out. I'll be more upbeat tomorrow. I hope y'all had a stress-free and smile-filled Wednesday. I wish a day filled with Sun, laughs and friends for y'alls Thursday.
Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Catnip dreams!

You would never believe that this cute as a button kitten is crazy as heck. She goes nuts for no reason (Oreo does this as well, when she does it we call her a Psycho Penguin. *G*) and chases the boxes in the kitchen all over the floor. She chased Midnight around (they were playing) the living room yesterday, smacked headfirst into the wall going around a corner and just kept going. I may need to find her a tiny helmet. She follows Chris around every morning when he's getting ready for work and stays under my feet when I cook in the kitchen or when I am putting clothes away in the closet. Here she is on top of my chair (above my head at the time) after wearing herself out. All in all our lives have been enriched by this 5 pound (that's right, she's gained weight) bundle of energy named Pepper. (Who still won't eat kitten food, preferring the adult kitty food.)
Today was just as crazy as ever. Chris and I were talking about what it's going to be like when the kids return to their schoolwork and RE classes as well. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are going to be whirlwinds of activity. The kids enjoyed their Martial Arts class today (and I worked out while they were there as usual), they're learning new moves each week. Daughter kicked butt today. The teacher had brought in one of his older more advanced students today and Daughter felled the dude wiping his feet out from under him! I am so proud of her! After their class we headed to the library where Daughter did her volunteer work and Son and I looked around. I was happy to find out I had some books in from hold and I picked up one other, so now I have three new books. I still have the Linda Howard book to read but have finished the Heather Graham, Dust to Dust. I have to admit I was worried on whether I would enjoy this book because these type of Doomsday books make me squirm a bit when reading them (and I've had a couple that were DNF) because I didn't like the way it felt with my religious beliefs. (That's all I'll say about that.) However, I truly liked this book. The hero was main character for once, the story told through him and while POV shifted now and then, I didn't mind it. It was a good "what if something extraordinary happened to you and then you were placed in circumstances to help save the world as we know it". The characters were sympathetic and not self-righteous and I can't wait to see where this new series will go. Oh, and as for the books I picked up? I now have: A Case of Imagination by Jane Tesh (Mystery)(thanks for the recommendation Dru!), Bait by Karen Robards (Contemporary) and The Stars Down Under by Susan McDonald (SF). I still have Burn by Linda Howard to read and would have taken it to the Y with me today, but it's a hardback and is hard to read while on the treadmill. Instead I took a keeper off my shelves Spellbound in Seattle by Garthia Anderson. I'm about half way finished with it and wish the author had written another book, I feel I would have enjoyed it/them. Did I mention I get weird looks reading a book on the treadmill? Is it because I'm reading a book, or because I'm READING? *G* (And no, I don't just stroll along.)
After leaving the library we still had time (for a change!) before meeting Chris at the Y, so we headed home for a snack. We then headed out and met Chris at the Y for our TurboKick class, to our happy surprise our regular teacher was back! (She'd blown out her knee and been recovering for about a month-month and a half.) I'll miss our Sub, she was very nice, but am glad to have our regular class back. After class we headed home and had dinner. Um, did I mention I couldn't sleep for a long while last night, so I made tonight's dinner ahead of time? Uh-huh. I made a roast with potato's and carrots. The cats were most upset I put everything in the refrigerator last night without sharing. *G* But, it was nice to come home, reheat a home cooked meal and eat without a lot of fuss. I have a weird question. We plan out our menu for two weeks and shop for that two weeks. That's a given. However, we don't really plan what we'll eat each night from that menu until that night as we cook it. We see that we have set number of planned meals and we'll make one of those for dinner. Are we alone in this, or do y'all plan out night for night what y'all will be making/eating?
Ah, well, that's enough of my nosiness tonight. I hope y'all had a good Tuesday and smiled a lot. I wish a sunny and happy Wednesday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 64, 2 miles on treadmill, 30 minutes of weights and 45 minutes of TurboKick. (Hmm, I kinda see why my energy level was so bad I was a bit shaky after that last class.)

Midnight hangs out in the box!

I know, I know, my post titles need help. *G* But, seriously, this is a picture of Midnight-in a box, lazing around. Notice how he fills that box pretty well? Yeah, he's not a small cat. And y'all know that game the kids and I play where we try to figure out who (Celebrity-ish wise) the cats would either sound like or look like? Midnight is Charlie Chan. I'll have to try and find a better picture of Midnight's face to show y'all. *G*

Today has been low-key. The kids played inside most the day and didn't even want to see their friends until about an hour before we left this evening. I have to say I enjoyed the peace and quiet. After a while we headed to the Y and Chris met us up there to work-out. When done we headed home and the kids had their friends over and were looking at old pictures. When they left we made dinner and have been shredding the mail the has our name and address on it. Doesn't sound like much, eh? What if I told you we had a trash bag full of it? See, the shredder hates me and I hate it, so I had to wait for Chris to get to it. Which he finally decided to do tonight. It's taking him a while........ and by saying the shredder hates me? If I put more than one sheet of paper at a time in it the teeth become clogged and I have to sit there with a butter knife and loosen the papers. Better him than me. *G* Oh, btw, while he's doing that, I'm making chocolate fudge chocolate chip brownies. The things that I haven't/don't tell y'all about that are stressing me out? They are calling for lots and lots of chocolate. *sigh* I'll be good. I won't eat more than... two. *G* And speaking of stress, the refrigerator still has that odd smell. We've been through the whole thing and cleaned it -even going so far as to use bleach AND replaced the water filter. It still has the smell so we're going to have to call the Home warranty people (I knew there was a reason I paid extra for that.) and get them to send someone out to look at it. Please cross your fingers that it can be repaired and that repair covered under our home warranty because I have TOO much that has to be done next month and big repair bills could tip me over the edge.
As for reading? I just read Instant Gratification by Jill Shalvis and loved it. I don't know of any other author that can write character that resonate so much with the reader. It was HOT and had her trademark humor as well, which I appreciate. I still have the Heather Graham and Linda Howard books left, but that's it. So, the Library better come through this week with some of my holds or I'm going to be in trouble. How do y'all act when you don't have anything to read? I try my keeper shelves first, but if there's nothing there I usually get very antsy. Am I the only one? *G*
Ooh, I smell chocolate. My brownies are done and I deserve at least one of the oooey-goooey pieces. I hope y'all had a pleasant and stress-free day. I wish a lovely Tuesday for y'all. Goodnight and Blessings, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 63, Core balance ball exercises and 1 hour Yoga.

Celebrate, Good Times Come on!

Guess what? Today is my Blog-aversary! I have been blogging for FOUR years! Is that scary or what? *G* I kinda feel sorry for y'all, having to put up with me and the wacky kitties for that long, but I Thank God for y'all every day. You keep me sane and let me vent. Y'all "listen" to me whine and comfort me when I'm sad, and laugh at the crazy antics going on here. So, Layla and I want to say THANK YOU! *G*

And to bring a bit of nostalgia, here's my first post: "This being my first ever blog, I have no idea where to start. My DH Set this up for me. I had asked him( myself a techno goober) if he would set it up for me so that I could post comments on a few blogs. I had no idea that it would mean I had my own blog. I feel as if I have now aquired a new toy and a new obligation. I actually feel reponsible for those who read this blog, to actually enjoy it. Aaaaghhhhhh! I want you to have fun, to laugh, to want to revisit. Talk about pressure. So, I'm going to try to just ......go with it. I think that I've sweated enought tonight so, I'm cutting this short. I'll grow into this being a fairly intelligent woman, hang with me and I hope to entertain you."

*I hope I've done well, so far!*

Anyway, on to today's post. Chris worked for a few hours today and since I'm still not sleeping well, I tried a nap. I woke feeling even more tired than before, so I'm feeling a bit out of it today. I'm sure the drainage doesn't help. *G* Even Chris is bothered by it today. One of the bad things about living in the South, I guess. It was nice again today, but our hot weather is expected back soon. And now for news of the strange. I have done NOTHING today. That's right. I took the day off. *g* I have done no laundry, no cleaning, no vacuuming, no extra exercising. Not only have I been resting, I've been lazy. *G* It's been kinda nice. I guess everyone needs a down day every now and then. We did visit the library this afternoon and I entered a few more review cards (bringing my total to 25 entries) and picked up some more entry review cards for the Adult Summer Reading program. Each card is an entry to win a small gift card to B&N. Since next month is going to literally S.U.C.K., I am trying desperately to win. *G* I have until the end of the month, wish me luck! I'm finding I'm a bit competitive, something I had no idea about myself. So, I'm having fun, too. *G*
Oh, and as for reading? I finished the anthology with Shelly Laurenston and Cynthia Eden. I can't put my finger on it, but I love the writing by both authors. I just wish all their books weren't trade size! Both write hot, hot, hot paranormals and while I can do without the, um, bedroom scenes (they do add something to the stories)-it's the characters I enjoy. Why yes, I have been called a prude before. *G* That doesn't stop me from reading, though. *G* Unfortunately the library didn't have anything else for me to read-book wise. I'm down to two library books and one other gifted by a friend. Chris suggested I make a trip to the UBS this week. I might do that. However, I have been kinda disappointed in the selection the last few times we've been there. I wonder if it'll be worth the trip.
Ah, well. Time for all the fun bedtime chores. I hope y'all had an interesting and restful Sunday and were lazy like me! *G* I wish a productive, stress-free and pleasant Monday for y'all. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 63. That's it. I took the day OFF. It was weird, but nice.

Boxes rWecycled one way or another!

I took this picture this afternoon as the kitties made good use out of the box flats that we continue to save for them. In this picture we have Layla, Midnight, Pepper and Butterscotch. Pepper still has plenty of room to grow into one of the boxes, while the other kitties pretty much fill them up! (Oh, and if you look carefully you can see that Oreo is sacked out in the chair.)

It's been a nice day. For once in the summer the weather has been pleasant with a high of 84 today. In JULY. In the SOUTH. Too weird, but nice. There was even a slight breeze. *g* We didn't have much planned for today beyond Mass, and afterwards we headed home. Next weekend will be busier with errands, so we enjoyed the day. Chris went into work for a few hours beforehand. We need the overtime so we're not complaining. I read for a bit this afternoon and then made dinner, we had homemade chicken soup. Yum! While it was cooking I exercised. I've also done 4 loads of laundry this afternoon and evening.
Something is odd about our refrigerator so Chris checked it out after dinner. (It's working fine just a weird smell that isn't food related and since he checked we know it's not freon, either.) We're going to replace the water filter and if that doesn't work we'll be calling someone about it. *sigh* Like I don't have enough to deal with within the next month and a half. We'll just say my stress level is through the roof.
After finishing the night time things, upstairs beckoned. But, I wanted to be able to not have a lot to do tomorrow. So, I dragged out the iron and ironing board and took care of the ironing. NOW I'm finally tired and since I'm up late NO WONDER! *G* I may read for a few minutes(Right now I'm reading When He Was Bad by Shelly Laurenston and Cynthia Eden. Very hot, but also very good.) , but my pillow is looking inviting for a change. I hope y'all have had a relaxing and enjoyable day. I wish a restful and peaceful Sunday. Goodnight, um Morning, and Hugs, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 62, 2 Power Burns and a bit of walking on the treadmill adding up to 2.80 miles.

This is a ploy!

This is a ploy by Layla for attention. She tries to look as cute as possible and then when you reach down to pet her, she grabs your hand and jackrabbits against it. (Those who've had kitties before know what I'm talking about.) And in her oddities department, she seems fine with the new kitten but for the last few months has tried to fight with Athena. We can't figure it out!

It's been a pretty quiet day. We were supposed to get some rain early today, but it never showed up. And I'm paying today for all the weeding I did yesterday. My hands and wrists are killing me and because of it I am almost popping ibuprofen like they're tic tacs. I had to get Daughter to open my diet dr. pepper this morning! This afternoon I was guilted into taking the kids and their friends to the Pool at the Y. We were only there about an hour when it started thundering and we had to clear the pool. Poor kids. We took the kids friends on a tour of the Y and if they'd had their tennies instead of flip flops and sandals they could have played basketball. Chris had met us there after he left work and he only swam for around 30 minutes with us. (And he's doing much better today, the sore from the sting isn't hurting. He thinks it may have been a hornet.) *G* After everything we packed the kids up and headed for home.
Chris made dinner this evening. After cooking most the week I told him it was his turn. *G* It was good and I was grateful. I even cleaned up after him. *g* Not much else to share with y'all just because it's been such a slow day. I washed lines and am trying to rest my hands so I haven't been doing much else. I did read some of the Kyra Davis book I picked up from the library. I like the book, there's humor and the heroine is proactive. I like her attitude. She seems spunky. *G*
Anyway, that's it. Oh, except Chris translated the spam I've been getting using software and it's for a link to a Pest Control site. Bleh! Couldn't they have found someone else to spam? Because of the spammed comments I have had to turn word verification back on.
I hope y'all had a sunny and fun Friday. I wish a relaxing and smile-filled Saturday for y'all Goodnight and Blessings, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 61, I did swim in the pool for almost an hour, does that count? Hmmmm.

Fireball plays on my treadmill, er jungle-gym!

*UPDATED! Wanted to let y'all know I had to place word verification back on the comments! Sorry for any hassle, I hate Spammers!

Well, the kitties treat it like a jungle-gym! They like to jump to the top and walk all over it. Here's Fireball getting his daily acrobatic exercise. *G*

This morning my MIL called and asked if they could take the kids to see the new Harry Potter movie. I didn't even have to ask the kids if they wanted to go see the movie. I told her yes and after telling the kids had very exuberant children. *G* While the kids were gone this afternoon I went out and ran a couple of errands. I finally was able to get by the Post Office and mail a package (our Post Office has weird hours), then bought some fuel, then headed home. I weeded along the driveway and by weeded I mean get all the wire grass from the flower bed along the driveway among my Monkey grass. It took me an hour, but you can actually see the mulch between the plants now. *G* Did I mention this was in 100 degree heat (with the heat index). By the time I was done the tank top I was wearing was soaked. Ewwww. I also swept the porch, have done laundry and this evening swept and mopped the floors inside. We didn't go to the Y this evening, I was tired by that point and I talked Chris into finally shaping and clipping our front bushes. It wasn't until he tried to clip and shape the Cherry tree out back that he was stung by something. We think, but are not sure, that it may have been a wasp. He's taken two benedryl (a precaution) and we put antibiotic ointment on the sting. I didn't see a stinger in the sore, but will be keeping an eye on it.
I read the book Bark if You Love Me: A Woman Meets-Dog Story by Louise Bernikov. It's a very sweet book, but be warned this is not a romance, there is no romance, unless you count an ordinary woman who adopts a dog into her home, and heart. No worries, there is a type of HEA. All in all it was a very cute book. I'm not sure what to read next. How do you decide which book to read next when you have more than one? Do you decide, or does the book decide for you? Meaning that maybe you read the first page of each book and one just grabs you? *G*

That's it from me. It's been a low-key day. The heat today has really made me extremely tired. I hope y'all had an enjoyable day. I wish a fun and fabulous Friday for y'all. (Wish me luck, I'm taking the kids and their friends to the pool tomorrow.) Goodnight and Hugs, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 60, over an hour of weeding in the heat-please tell me that counts?

Pepper is camera shy!

I think, just to drive me crazy, that Pepper is purposefully not letting me get a good picture of her face! It's driving me crazy! You wouldn't believe how cute she is with a little button nose and her big ears and pointy chin. It's a perfect triangle! *G* Add in a confused look thanks to her depth perception problem and she is absolutely adorable.

Today has been pretty nice. Despite a problem sleeping (I finally gave up and made cookies instead.), I managed to get enough sleep where I didn't feel like I was dragging all day. I even went to Zumba this evening instead of Yoga! The kids stayed inside today and we had a quiet day. (They stayed inside because their friends weren't out today.) After the Zumba class the kids and I went swimming and Chris joined us when he arrived after work. We had a good time together and I even managed to get a few laps in the pool done. After swimming we made it home and made dinner. I can handle days like this. *G*
In reading news, I finished the Barbara Bretton book and was reminded why she is one of my favorite authors. Her books are always touching, emotional and entertaining. This book, Girls of Summer, is now one of my favorites of hers. The hero and heroine both deserved their HEA's, though there wasn't that much turmoil and the ending was easy to see coming. I guess the perfect word for the book would be....gentle. Next up? I have no idea, but thanks to the library and a friend I have a choice. Now to just make one! *G* I'll let y'all know.
That's it from me tonight. Below this post is a video of our Pepper. I hope y'all are able to see it. It's not much, but shows her personality. She doesn't back down from any of the kitties. We don't know if it's because she doesn't see well, or whether it's her fighter spirit, but she's a little spitfire! *G*
I hope y'all had a good day. I wish a Thursday filled with laughter, hope and love. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 59, 45 minute Zumba class and 1 hour swimming with the kids and Chris with a few laps thrown in. In other words, I don't sit still in the pool! *G*

Pepper may become a star!

Yes, our Pepper. This is the only way we could put the video on Blogger. Seems Blogger isn't fond of our camera. Enjoy! This is Pepper going after Layla's tale. And no, Layla didn't hurt her. A sure sign she didn't mind too much. *G*

Midnight likes housework!

I tried to upload a small video of Pepper attacking Layla's tale, but after half an hour of it telling me it was uploading, I gave up. I'll try again later. Here's Midnight on top of the refrigerator, he was crouched up there watching me clean up after dinner last night. I don't know what he finds so interesting about someone wiping down counters, the stove and putting things in the dishwasher. *G*

Although it wasn't the usual crazy, running around Tuesday it was still busy. The kids and I headed out mid afternoon for their Martial Arts class, where we found out there will be a tournament in November. I'm sure Daughter will compete, but I did tell the teacher I wasn't sure about Son. Son just isn't settled into taking the time to practice yet. I also informed the teacher that the sparring gear for the kids was going to have to wait a few weeks longer because of the two emergency Vet bills we had for Pepper. He understood. He has a St. Bernard. Named Cujo. *G* No joke. *G* While the kids were in class I worked out and red a few chapters in the Barbara Bretton book, Girls of Summer. I'm enjoying the book and will probably finish it tonight.
After the kids class we headed to the library where Daughter performed her volunteer time and Son and I looked around and checked out. I had not two but THREE books in, one being an interlibrary loan. I joked with the Librarian that the book has traveled more than I have lately! *G* But, I now have When He was Bad a two story anthology with Cynthia Eden and Shelly Laurenston, Bark of You Love Me: A Woman Meets-Dog Story by Louise Bernikov (This book caught my eye at my local Sam's Club, so I took a picture and checked the library website for it.) and Burn by Linda Howard. I am so excited to have books! Did I mention I read Inked by Lori Devoti last night. I liked the Amazon theme and can't think of many (actually more than one other) book that features this storyline (Tori, my libraries (both counties) don't have the book(s) you suggested.) There wasn't a HEA, as most Urban Fantasy's don't have them. But, there was room at the end of the book for another book with the same characters and I'd be interested to read it if it ever exists.
When we were done at the library, instead of turning around and heading back to the Y, we headed home instead and waited for Chris to arrive home from work. Last night the ceiling fan in our bedroom started making weird noises and as this is not the first time something has gone wrong with it, we gave in and decided to purchase another fan. Especially since in trying to adjust it last night, Chris broke one of the glass pieces for the lights. *sigh* He didn't break the whole thing, just part of the rim, he had acted incredibly irritated with the fan and jiggled one of the lights (it has three) it moved a little too much and hit the blades that were, yes, still moving. *sigh* So, we ended up with glass from a section of the rim everywhere. Hence, new fan today. We didn't pick the one I adored (Dude! $200 for a ceiling fan, really? GAH!), but we did pick one that matches the door handles and other lighting in the house. As long as it works and doesn't make noise, I don't mind too much.
We then headed home where we've been bad and had pizza for dinner. California Pizza Kitchen 5 cheese and tomato-YUM, YUM, YUM! *G* (From the freezer section, we don't have one of those restaurants here.) We have watched Warehouse 13 and like the second episode just as much, if not more, than the pilot. I hope this show makes it! It's fun and sometimes funny, interesting and enjoyable. At least to us. *G*
Now it's getting late and since I barely slept last night, I'm ready to rest. I've been pushing myself all day (definitely during working out) and just want to put my feet up and not think. *g* I hope y'all had a nice, pleasing day. I wish an enjoyable and smile-filled Wednesday for y'all. Goodnight and Blessings, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge#2-Day 58, 2 miles on the treadmill and 25 minutes weight machines.

Oreo's bad habit!

I keep telling Oreo that biting your nails is a bad habit. *G* Still, she ignores me and continues on. I guess there's no persuading a cat!

It's been a stressful day here. I won't go into specifics, but Daughter and I are clashing and it's been a rough day. Can't we just skip these years? No? *sigh* There are a few other stresses as well, ones I've been worrying over for a couple of weeks. Needless to say all this combined has not made for a good day.
Um, it's been a slow day here. Nothing major to report. I did finish the Linda Howard book Cover of Night. I'm not sure which book I'll pick up next and I just checked the library website and I have two more holds in to pick up tomorrow. I feel blessed about how quickly the library has been getting in books I'm excited to read. Especially since there will be no book purchases for me for a while. (Unless it's the UBS.)
I don't want to bore y'all with all the household things I've done today. I will say that last night I buzzed Son's hair and it was a sad Mommy moment when I swept it up and in the dustpan was a mound of red hair. Because it made me think that my little boy is growing up. He likes his hair cut like his Dad and there's no going back, he's just getting bigger and bigger. Oh, and Son has finally added a new "food" to his small group of foods he likes. He now likes sunflower seeds. Roasted sunflower seeds. And, um, you know how most people crack the shell? Yeah, he eats the WHOLE thing.
I meant to tell y'all that Sunday was the last day of Pepper's antibiotics. She was fine yesterday and this also means her forced incarceration at night is now over and she has the run of the house while we're asleep and not just during the day. So far so good, but being the worries I am, could y'all please cross your fingers she stay's healthy? She spent last night trading off sleeping on our bed and Daughter's.
Anyway, Chris DID finish mowing the yard this evening after the kids and I arrived home from the Y. Then we made dinner together and watched The Closer. Another good episode tonight.
That's about it from here. I still have some things to take care of, so I'm headed off. I hope y'all had a productive and happy day. I wish a sunny and pleasant Tuesday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 57, 1 Hour Yoga.

Butterscotch trades up!

This is Butterscotch's old collar. (Um, the red one.) Notice that it is fuzzy and resembles a clown ruff. Then there's the new collar (that we picked up when we went grocery shopping Friday). Butterscotch seems to like it. It has sparkly paw prints on the top. Somehow they seem to fit his personality. *G* See, he's showing it off!

Today has been a pretty quiet day. Chris had to go into work for a few hours and while he was gone the kids were pretty quiet. It helped that they were in their rooms thanks to the heat outside today. I spent a good portion of the time he was gone taking care of some laundry and ironing. Then? I spent time doing whatever I wanted. I read some, the Linda Howard book I'm rereading. I also wrote a new book review (for the Linda Castillo book Sworn to Silence. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!), and fixed dinner ahead of time. When Chris arrived home he started to upload some more of the kids schoolwork to the website of the Curriculum we use. They grade and keep records of everything for us. (For the major tests. The weekly tests-I grade.) Don't ask me why it's taking him so long to do it, if I start I'll never stop focusing on the many things I've asked him to do that don't get done. *sigh* This evening when it cooled down enough, he did start to mow the lawn. He managed to mow about half the yard when he ran out of gas. He said he'd buy some more gas for it and finish tomorrow. We'll see.
While he was mowing I worked out on the treadmill and when I was done there I finished making dinner. (I made chicken pot pie, with the filling ahead of time and placed everything in the oven when done.) Since then we've watched the new Lifetime series Drop Dead Diva. It's cute and Daughter and I really like it. I hope it does well.
Anyway, that's it from here. It's been a low-key day and one that has allowed me to recharge a bit. I DO have other household things to take care of, so this is it for me. I hope that y'all had a relaxing and peaceful day. I wish a stress-free and happy Monday.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 56, 2 Power Burns on the treadmill and I stepped up the speed on the jogging a bit.

Overflowing with boxes!

I can't seem to get rid of a box these days. Each cat wants one of their own! Here is Athena napping in the kitchen in one of the numerous boxes we have. And it wasn't even daylight! Do boxes smell like catnip or something? *G*
It's been a another long day here. I couldn't sleep for a long time last night, though I was physically exhausted. I ended up being up 19 hours straight before I could sleep. And then I didn't want to get up this morning. *sigh* For the first time in years my Son woke up before I did! He woke me up and told me "You need to wake up, you're sleeping late.". *G* This from the child that takes forever to not only wake up, but get up and dressed. Chris had to go into work today for a couple of hours. We don't mind, thanks to the Vet bills from the week before last we had to put off purchasing the kids sparring gear until next month. (Ooh, haven't told the teacher that yet. Wish me luck.) The overtime will go towards their gear. And you do NOT want to know my power bill due to the AC and Summer heat. Ugh. After Chris arrived home we headed to Mass, we had a visiting Priest who changed up the usual and threw every one off today. Is it bad that I didn't like him? I think that makes me a bad person. *sigh* After Mass we headed to Marshalls. Chris left his headphones on the dresser the other night over night and one of the cats decided they tasted yummy and broke them. (No they didn't eat them, just left teeth marks and uncovered wire.) Marshalls didn't have any that weren't pink. *g* So we headed to Ross. They didn't have any that we trusted. (We were looking for the same brand and for the same price I had purchased the other pair, $10.). The we looked at Best Buy (all these stores were in the same shopping complex), they had the brand, but they were double what I paid, so they were a no go. Then we tried TJ Maxx. They had the brand, but again they were pink. So, he bought another brand but the same style. Then we headed to another grocery store for some produce (we stopped buying that at WW a long time ago, everything went bad quickly). Then, blessed be, we headed home. I don't know what's going on with pollen or whatever it is that's bugging me, but my sinuses are driving me crazy.
We made dinner, meaning Chris chopped and I cooked. Chris had his Blackberry (loaded with music he stole from me) on the counter and we were dancing around the kitchen while cooking. Well, okay, Son and I were dancing. Chris was smiling at me and Daughter I am sure wanted new parents. *G* And am now relaxing for a few minutes before I have to dig into the dryer and fold things. *G*
Oh, I finally finished the 5th Stephanie Plum book. Which is funny because I read number seven before I read this one! I've now started the Linda Castillo book, Sworn to Silence. This is a new-to-me author and I have heard very good things about the book. I am a bit intrigued as it is set in Amish country with a former-Amish woman as the lead Cop in the mystery. The prologue was heart-breaking, I hope I can stick with the book.
To be honest, that's about it from me today. It's been a rather so-so day. I hope y'all had a relaxing and fun Friday. I wish a restful and peaceful Sunday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 55, walking-lots of walking through the stores and through the shopping complex. Please tell me that counts? And *sigh* I'm going to miss Zumba again this weekend (it's only every other weekend). Chris has to go into work for a few more hours tomorrow and there's no Childwatch on Sunday. Oh, well, maybe the treadmill.

Layla pleads with Chris!

This is Layla looking pleadingly on at Chris last night as we had an informal dinner. Notice how she's not only on my chair, but halfway on the table as well! She managed to change the channel before I was able to grab the remote out from under her. *G*
Whew! It has been a long, long day. The kids and I were up and ready early for Daughter's Doctor's appointment. Before we left I had to run around starting laundry, putting ice in the coolers for grocery shopping later and vacuumed the house. I grabbed the Janet Evanovich book I'm reading right now (I know, I know, it's taking me forever to get through this one! So much stuff to do, not enough time. Or help.) and we headed out the door. It makes absolute sense then that we actually arrived early for Daughter's appointment, right? And I, had my book, thought I'd have time to read. NO. When is the last time you were early for an appointment and they saw you early? That's right, they called us in early. No problem, I thought. I'll just read while we wait to see the Doctor. (After they placed us in a room after Daughter had her temperature taken and been weighed.) Um, no. The Doctor arrived early. *sigh* But, it turns out she's an Evanovich fan as well. *G* Poor book. It spent the rest of the morning and later sitting on the passenger seat. (It's a hardback, not exactly purse-sized.) After Daughter was pronounced healthy (except for the her overly large tonsils *sigh*) we left with a prescription for antibitiocs (tonsils, again). We then headed to Aldi where we ran into the strange German fellow that's a member of the Y we attend. Then to Sam's Club for more groceries, and then on to WW for the rest. By the time we arrived home I was exhausted. We had left before I was able to eat anything for breakfast and I was also starved. (I made sure the kids ate before we left.) And no, the kids didn't help me with anything. After putting everything away I took care of more laundry, ate lunch and collapsed in my chair. Only to finally turn on my computer and see that the library had two holds in for me AND to the thought that I had forgotten to pick up Daughter's prescription. *sigh* So, we headed back out. I now have two more books. (I KNOW, my library is AWESOME this month! For a change. *G*) Dust to Dust by Heather Graham and Sworn to Silence by Linda Castillo. My bedside table is full and I feel blessed because I can't buy any books right now. *g*
The I we arrived home and I collapsed into my chair again. The kids have been inside and outside, their friends have also been inside and outside. *g* After Chris arrived home from work we had dinner and I've taken care of yet more laundry (Daughter's this time.) And right now I'm listening to Layla snore. *G* We've watched Eureka together as a family and LOVED it! I adore this show and am so happy it's back!
It's time for me to head off-line again. I hope y'all had a fun and sunny day. I wish a relaxing and pleasing Saturday. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 54. That's it. Besides heavy lifting (when it says 40lbs. of cat litter, it means it, not to mention the two boxes of water and box of cokes for Chris), walking through grocery stores and doing the whole day on 5 hours of sleep. Not bad, eh?

Pepper the Wonder Kitten!

Pepper is so funny and in her own way very sweet. She's too hyper to want to be a lap baby, and we think the time she lived outside has a bit to do with that as well. However, she is fun to play with and copes very well with what we believe is a sight problem. FIL guided us in a direction today. We know she has some sort of vision problem, especially tracking anything not on the floor. He suggested that she has no depth perception. She more than makes up for her vision issue with her hearing and sense of smell. Daughter wanted to change her name to Sonar last week, but she's already started to recognize her name, Pepper. Y'all will be glad to know that she's gained back the weight she lost last week and is doing well (*knock on wood*) thanks to a good Vet, love and lots of prayers. Oh, and y'all will also be glad to know she's been playing with a couple of the older kitties. Well, playing- harassing, same thing, right?

Today has been boring. I'll admit it. The weather was nice, unfortunately the mosquitos thought so, too. The Out-laws picked the kids up this afternoon and they were back within an hour. The gnats and other bugs bothered them, but we have a quart of fresh picked blackberries sitting in the refrigerator. (MIL has the other quart. *G*) I can guarantee they won't be in there long. The kids have already been into some of them! I did do something today that was kind of selfish. Other than a load or two of laundry and light cleaning (and taking care of dinner) I have rested today. Um, the drainage has had a lot to do with it, but whatever works. Tomorrow is going to be packed with things. Daughter has a Doctor visit tomorrow morning (follow up to a couple of weeks ago), plus we have grocery shopping at a few places to take care of and the library has two more of my holds. I suspect by the time we're done I will want nothing more than to sit down. *G*

Reading-wise I'm still reading High Five by Janet Evanovich. I didn't read much today just because I felt a bit dizzy and out-of-step. I hope when we go upstairs and I can take something for it, I'll feel more like reading.

That said, it's time for me to head off-line and take care of a few night time chores. I hope y'all had a lovely day. I wish a fun and funny Friday for y'all. Goodnight and Hugs, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 53.

I get nervous......

When the cats sit on the bannister like this. On the other side of that bannister is NOTHING but stairs down below. We've had one cat fall off, luckily he landed on his feet. But, I get nervous every time one jumps up there. Midnight and Patches were okay, but Butterscotch freaks us out because he will roll all over. Ack!

To be honest, it's been a pretty boring and slow day. It was overcast and drizzled most the day and then late this afternoon it started to rain. Lightly. I wish we'd get a downpour, but it was still nice today because the weather kept the heat down. And it suited my mood. I've been so tired today that I've been dragging.
I read the Susan Andersend book that was a reread for me last night. It was nice to read the story and revisit it. I have no idea why I'd been thinking of that book, but it was just as cute as I remember reading it the first time. Right now I'm reading the 5th Stephanie Plum book, though I haven't gotten very far due to laundry and household things.
Late this afternoon I made Spaghetti and Meatballs so we'd have dinner ready when we arrived home from the Y tonight. When we did get to eat this evening Chris and Daughter loved it. Son still won't eat meatballs, but that's okay. I just wish he'd outgrow this picky eater thing.
Tomorrow the kids are going blackberry picking with the Out-laws. I'm not sure what I'll do while they're gone. Maybe just rest. *g* But, knowing me, probably not.
This is it from me. I'm ready to get some sleep and hopefully wake up energized. I hope y'all had a happy Wednesday. I wish an energetic and productive day for y'all (and me! *G*). Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 52, 1 Hour Yoga. (Pure stubbornness got me through. *G*)

Oreo looks peaceful and QUIET!

This is one of the only times that Oreo is peaceful and quiet. Her nickname is "The Stalker" as she likes to follow me around the house, especially upstairs. At night, when we go to bed and are in the bedroom doing all those night time things like brushing teeth, she's there and meowing at me as though she's psycho. We love her anyway. *G*

Another summer day here. Very warm and as it was Tuesday, very busy. I did watch a bit of Michael Jackson's Memorial on tv this afternoon. I wasn't a fan, but still understand the magnitude of his passing to those he touched in some way. We headed to the Y for the kids Martial Arts class and while they were in class, I worked out. I managed to stay on the treadmill, despite giggling like a loon while on there. I was reading Three to Get Deadly by Janet Evanovich and was reading the part where the body flew off the car and onto Lula's and what commenced from there. I KNOW the lady next to me must have thought I was nuts, but those two miles on the treadmill went by FAST. *G* After I was done I waited for the kids (their class ran over) and talked to their teacher after the class. I like their teacher, he's great with the kids and they enjoy his class. But, I swear the man must think his students parents have nothing better to do with their money than to keep shoveling it into something to do with the class! I've already bought their Gi's, their weapons, they tested for Yellow belts (and yeah, that cost money, too) and have also bought mouth cards for both and a cup for Son. Then there's the sparring equipment he wants us to purchase and NOW he wants to hold a mini-tournament in a few weeks and wants the parents to come together and each donate money for Awards/Trophies. This is on top of paying for the class each month. And the sad thing is? He's not a bad guy. He's not keeping any of this money. The kids haven't even been taking the classes for much more than 2 months! Is this normal? *sigh* And btw? We're the only family that the kids have everything. (Well, haven't bought the sparring gear yet.) I would have felt better about all this if the teacher had been upfront with a type of syllabus on what was expected. But, it seems like each week it's something else! I'll get over and I'll calm down, I'm just miffed.
After the Y we headed to the library where Daughter has her volunteer work. Luckily I had a few books come in and picked up one that I seem to be missing in my Janet Evanovich collection. So, I now have to read (on top of a couple of books from the library from last week): The Princess Plot by Kirsten Boie (a YA and new-to-me author), Getting Lucky by Susan Andersen (I've been thinking about this book for a couple of weeks for some reason, so decided to reread it.), Eve of Darkness by S.J. Day (new-to-me author), Sex, Murder and a Double Latte by Kyra Davis (a new-to-me author), Cover of Night by Linda Howard (a reread for me) and High Five by Janet Evanovich (another reread for me). There aren't that many new books out this month that I want (thank goodness for my non-existent budget) so I feel pretty lucky to have found so many books from the library. Now next month? Well, lets say that there are quite a few books I want that are going to be new releases. But, I have to be good. Think good thoughts that the library gets some of them, okay? *G*
What about y'all? Anyone reading anything good? Any recommendations to check my library for? *G*
After the library we headed back to the Y for a class and after dropping the kids in Childwatch I met Chris for the class. Our regular instructor has blown out her knee, so for the past month we've had a Sub. She's a lovely woman, very energetic. *G* And the classes are fun and never the same. Which is nice. Keeps things from getting boring. *G* After class (And I'd sweated a river. Ewwww!) we headed home and Chris made dinner. (What? I made dinner last night, it was his turn.) We also sat and watched the new Sci-Fi (sorry, I refuse to call it by it's idiotic new name) series Warehouse 13. Ooh, I liked it! So did Chris. Can't wait to see the next show AND Eureka is back on Friday (FINALLY!)! YAY!
Anyway, it's time for me to head upstairs. I hope y'all had a good day. I wish a slightly wacky, but all pleasing Wednesday. Goodnight and Hugs, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 51, Core Exercises with the Balance Ball, 2miles on the treadmill@ 3.8 speed and 4.5 incline, 25 minutes of weight machines and 1 Hour TaeBo class. Ouch! I'm tired now!

Hide and Seek, kitty style!

This picture of Layla cracks me up! I don't know if she honestly thought no one could see her, or if she was just happy sitting behind the curtain. I just think it's cute and funny!

It's been another quiet day here. Well, not quiet if you count this afternoon where we had kids playing Hide and Seek inside the house again, then they moved on to Operation and Uno. It was really hot out, so I can't blame them for wanting to play inside, but whew! It got loud! *G* We also had a small issue here today. There have been two kittens that look like Pepper and we did the whole "are these your cats" throughout the entire neighborhood. No one would claim them. We just didn't have the resources or room to take in any more cats so Chris took them to the Humane Society this afternoon. We wrestled with the decision, but knew it would be the best for them. They were friendly and we could have kept feeding them outside, but felt they would be safer at the Humane Society (they were so young and the older strays we feed and were not happy to have them here) and have a chance for real homes with people that could care for them. At least by taking them and making sure the Humane Society knew their story, that they were probably around 7 weeks old, they were friendly, they were cared for at some point-they have a chance to get their inoculations and will be spayed/neutered. So, say a prayer or send good thoughts that those two kitties find a "forever home". I know I am. In similar news: Pepper is fine. She's been acting like her regular self and she has been tracking food all day! *G* She's also been playing and seems happy. I hope the other kitties accept her soon. Though, we do think Oreo was playing with her a bit last night. It looked like they were playing a version of "Kitty Tag". *G*
Chris took the day off today. He had trouble sleeping last night for some reason and felt so tired this morning that he decided to take the day and rest. It kinda threw my normal rhythm off, but I'm just glad he had time to take.
We did visit the Y this evening where I had Yoga and Chris worked out. Afterwards we had to run by the grocery store for bread. You'd have thought two loaves would take a family of four through two weeks, but we only made it one week before needing more.
As for reading, well, I did finish Two for the Dough by Janet Evanovich. It was a fun read. Now I'm reading Three to Get Deadly by the same author. I also have Amazon Ink by Lori Devoti to read. I'm hoping the finish Three tonight or maybe tomorrow afternoon and start on it. You have to admit, the book has an unusual premise. An Amazonian tattoo artist who is trying to track the killer of Amazonian girls and is the lead suspect by both the police and her former Amazonian community. How many books have you seen, or heard of, that contain Amazons? Not many! (Um, and if you had, please leave me titles of such books in the comments, please? *G*)
Sorry to say that it's been pretty boring around here today. Not much else to share. Allergies are making my life heck right now and I'm hoping we get lots of rain soon to help. *sigh* Anyway, I hope y'all had a productive and pleasant Monday. I wish a happy and smile-filled Tuesday for y'all. Goodnight and Blessings, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 50, 1 Hour of a GREAT Yoga class. *G* (I know I said I was going to kick up my work-outs, but the allergy thing is making it difficult so far this week. I'm hopeful tomorrow will be better.)

FIL and a "screamer"!

This picture is from last night. FIL was Chris' helper when launching the fireworks. Here he is holding his ears as a "Screamer" rocket was launched. We called it a screamer because it made a very loud noise as it launched skyward. Even with the noise we had a (wait for it) "Blast". *G* (Sorry couldn't resist.)

Today has been filled with errands (I sent Chris), chores (I took care of those) and kids! We were lucky and it remained overcast all day keeping the heat down. It was nice! *G* Although, thanks to our time outside last night I woke today with the nastiest sinus headache. I swear I felt as though someone were crushing my head. Ugh. Have I mentioned I love ibuprofen? After it kicked in I was personable again and the sound of my own voice could move above a whisper. This afternoon I gave Chris a list of errands to be run and he took off. I didn't want us all to go because I'm still nervous about leaving the kitten alone, though she is doing well. And I also knew the kids wanted to stay home. I didn't run the errands because I had ironing to do. And no, Chris can't iron. Chris isn't allowed to iron. I learn new words when Chris irons. *G* Not to mention it takes him 4x's as long. So, I do it. While I was upstairs ironing the kids and their friends decided to play inside. First it was Operation, then indoor hide-and-seek. They had a blast with that last one. Son is still small enough to fit in interesting places. I was good. I didn't give anyone away. After a while they headed back outside and I started the pork loin we had for dinner. Then I decided to exercise. Chris arrived home and finished dinner while I was exercising. And now after watching a bit of tv (Design Challenge, interesting.) it's time to head upstairs where I can cut Chris' hair.
As for reading, well, not much was done today due to the headache earlier and then laundry, ironing, cooking and exercising. I am still reading the second installment of the Stepahnie Plum series, though I am about 2 chapters from finishing. After that I will tackle another library book. I think. *G*
No more from me tonight. It's time to get a few more things done. I hope y'all had a peaceful and restful Sunday. I wish a low-key and pleasant Monday. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge#2-Day 49, 2 Power Burns on the treadmill and half an Endurance Run. (When the speed on it hit 5.5 I hit stop. *G* My stride is too short for that for a long amount of time.)

Pepper naps!

I took this picture yesterday afternoon. Pepper, for some reason, decided she wanted to stop the window. *G* I was just glad to see her walking around the kitchen and feeling better.
She's feeling lots better today. I spent a couple of hours trying to keep her occupied because she was bored and wanted to play but none of the other kitties will play with her. I hope they accept her soon.
Today has been fun and quiet. The kids decided to play outside all day leaving me to occupy the kitty. She wanted to play and the other kitties like to pretend she doesn't exist. I know that eventually they will accept her, but it hasn't happened yet and I feel sorry bad for her.
Chris and I also cooked late this afternoon. The Out-laws called and had decided to come over after we ate instead of eating with us. (MIL still brought coconut cake.) Chris made kabobs and I made squash casserole (which Daughter has eaten almost half of!), we had tomato slices and everything came out well. After we ate and the Out-laws had arrived the kids were excited to get the fireworks going so they had "pop-its" and lit a couple of sparklers. When everyone was ready Chris set off the fireworks on the front driveway and every one sat to watch. After a while the kids thought it would be great fun to chase down where the rockets had landed. I would swear at some point they were having more fun trying to guess where they would land and try and beat each other to them than they did actually watching the fireworks. Several people on our street set off fireworks so it was nice to have not just ours to watch. After a while the Out-laws left and when the fireworks were all gone the kids helped clean up the mess and put things away. Then the neighbor kids went home and our kids are winding down. It's now late and we're ready for bed.
As for reading? I haven't had much chance today. I've been doing laundry and hovering over the kitten to make sure she's going to be okay. I even set my alarm last night and got up to check on her every 3 hours. Which is making me sleepy now! *G* Anyway, I'm still reading Two for the Dough by Janet Evanovich.
Anyway, I hope y'all had a festive and happy Independence Day! I wish y'all a Blessed and restful Sunday. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 48. I didn't have time for anything else. I wanted to spend time with the kitten so I played with her instead. BUT, I hope to work out tomorrow.
