From Upside Down to Right Side Up!

The picture of Butterscotch I posted the other day? Of him upside down? He was right side up first. *g* He looks intelligent doesn't he? Don't be fooled. He freezes at loud noises and loves to head butt you on the head, multiple times. Guess what? He has a hard head! Oh, and he purrs for no reason at all. However, despite his weirdness, we love him-crazy and all. *g*

It's been a very long day. Our mattress has been bugging me for a while now (It's 9 years old.) and this morning I woke with my hips and shoulders really hurting. Ah, well. Not to mention all the tossing and turning last night. But, good news is I don't jump up to check on Son during the night. More than once anyway.  I took care of some laundry and put some mulch out in the front bush bed. I wonder where it all goes? We have to replace mulch every year and it's not like it walks away. After that went to Zumba class. And while I normally really enjoy the entire class, this time I only enjoyed half of it. The first half was with a woman who has recently become certified to teach the class and she's not the best, but she's good. The second half was with a woman who could. not. hold. the. rhythm. At all. DROVE ME CRAZY. I realize she's knew to this, but wouldn't someone have told her by now that she has NO rhythm? And I'm not kidding. A couple of times I caught other women in the class just stop because she was off rhythm and they knew it and were conflicted on whether to follow her or follow what they knew they should be doing. What would you have done?
After Zumba I headed home and Chris and I went back out to Sam's. I was out of grapes and we wanted to look at a mattress there. Yes, we are that desperate. Luckily, I am not an impulse buyer, it'll be weeks and probably months and more pain for me before we settle on a mattress. We then headed home and I ironed Chris' clothes for the coming week and we had dinner and watched the Oscar's. Not much of a day, but I was on my feet for much of it.
As for my reading? I have a book I'm looking forward to reading, the Lovelace, yet have had no time today to read. Again. Hopefully tomorrow will bring some quiet time and a slower pace. Ha, who am I kidding? *g*
I'm up too late and need to sleep. I hope there aren't too many blunders in the post because I honestly can't think straight. I also hope y'all had a peaceful Sunday. I wish a lovely and pleasing Monday for y'all. Goodnight and Blessings, B.

Kitty Tree gets some lovin'!

The kitty tree we bought the cats gets lots of use, though Wicket hasn't swung from the rope yet. (Close, but not all the way.) Here are Midnight (top), Patches (middle), Layla (bottom) and Fireball on the floor looking at maybe getting inside the kitty condo. But, I wish I had a picture of the sweetest climber, Pepper. Pepper gets to the middle (where Patches is in the picture) and she rests and naps and when she wants down she meows for one of us to come get her because she can't see to get down. It's very sweet and just a tad sad (because she can't see). But, she'll all cute!
Whew! Talk about a busy day! Today started out pretty quiet, but this afternoon we left and I swear I don't know how we managed to make it to so many places. First stop was Marshall's where we were looking for pillow cases and a shower curtain liner for Daughter's bathroom. Next up was Dick's Sporting Goods, we were looking for a one piece for Daughter for when she takes the Lifeguard course in March. But, we didn't find one. Then we visited Best Buy (All in the same shopping complex.) where we were looking to replace our printer/scanner which decided to die in a very annoying way. (And also in a way which the maker knows about and has no plans to fix, it's a software issue.) We ended up purchasing a Canon MG6120. Since we use the scanner AND printer portion for the kids schoolwork, it has to be a good one. Crossing my fingers!
We then headed to Mass and after that to T.J. Maxx, again looking for a bathing suit for Daughter. We're running into an issue with the one piece suits. The Nike and Speedo and TYR all cut behind her, um, chest area. And Daughter is well proportioned. The athletic suits are not made for that it seems.
So, then we went to Academy Sports (Tired yet? I was!) She tried on several there, all with the same problem. So, while in the same complex, we decided to have a bit of fun and visited Trader Joe's. I picked up some maple pecan granola. Yum! Then, blessed be, home. Where a person across the street and two houses down decided to throw a party and make noise. Lots of noise. We had to call the police out. Twice. After the second time the party wound down. This is the first time we've had to call the cops because of something like that, and we've lived here over 6 years now.
A simple dinner and putting my feet up are what constituted the rest of my evening. Oh, and helping Son play Scrabble with Daughter. She had an unfair advantage since she's 15 and her vocabulary far surpasses his thanks to schoolwork and her recreational reading. He didn't need a lot of help, but every now and then he needed a nudge in the right direction.
As for reading? Again, there was none today. The one place I didn't get to visit today was the bookstore. Or even the library. But, I do have two library books, so that's good. Now to find the time to read them! *g*
I hope y'all had a relaxing and Sunny Saturday. I wish y'all a joyful and restful Sunday. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: No time today. Does four hours (all together) of shopping count? Because my feet scream that it does. And, I have Zumba tomorrow!

Seeing the world upside down!

Butterscotch spends a lot of his time upside down. I'm beginning to wonder if he prefers the world that way, or if he's just weird. He's not called Twinki for nothing! *g* And look at those whiskers! It's funny that he was the runt and Fireball (his brother) was the larger one when they were little. Now he's bigger than Fireball!

It's been a busy day! We had schoolwork earlier and then I cooked part of dinner for tonight so that everything could be assembled when we arrived home this evening. After that the kids and I went to Lowe's where I picked up some mulch and then to PetSmart for some kitten food for Wicket. We also picked up a new flavor of canned food for her since she's been turning her nose up at her regular canned food flavor. Luckily the brand we purchase makes 3 different kitten flavors and she LOVES the new flavor. Then back to the house where I stacked up the mulch and I put the laundry away and filled up the windshield wiper fluid in the jeep and the we headed back out. This time we had to go back across town to the Pine Y to meet with Daughter's students who were testing today. You have no idea how hard it's been to set up this testing date between our schedules, her students schedules and the Young Black Belt who acted as Officiant. Daughter administered the test and her students passed, though she did point out where they needed work. She also commended them for their hard work.
After that we headed home and met up with Chris. Where we then headed back out to Target because our laundry basket is falling apart (the handles are breaking, not just one, but three of them) and razor blades and such. Son ended up spending his money on one of those Spy kits where he can take fingerprints and other things. (He and Daughter have had a blast with it ever since we've arrived home.)
After arriving back home the kids played and Chris set about putting the new printer cartridges in the printer, but it still refuses to work correctly and as it's not under warranty and he's tried everything he can think of to fix it... we'll have to replace it. (Even the printer maker has said that this printer has this problem, but refuse to deal with it.) And we need a printer. We need it to be a scanner, too, since some of the kids schoolwork is scanned in and sent to their curriculum maker. So, we'll be researching and looking over printers this weekend. Oh, and while Chris was dealing with that I put dinner together, Chicken enchiladas. They came out really good. I'm not bragging, promise.
As for reading? HA! I have not had the time today. I hope to find some time tonight at bedtime. Which leads to now. I need to get offline and send Chris to bed and take care of a few household things. I hope y'all had a fun and enjoyable Friday. I wish an amusing and restful Saturday for y'all. Goodnight and Hugs, B.

Exercise: While I feel as though I was in constant motion, in actuality I never had the time today. Oh, well. Maybe tomorrow.

Son made blue belt!

Son had his test for blue belt today and he made it! He passed! I am so proud of him that all his practicing paid off. I will say that he was nervous and forgot a kick from a line drill and a couple of his basic attacks. But, his teacher said he's seen Son perform the same things in class, even right before the test, so he knew that Son knew the material and was just nervous. And now Son has a certificate and a blue belt. And next week Daughter tests for Purple! I am so proud of my kids for sticking with MA, even through two teachers disappointing them. I hope they continue to learn and do well.

I have no idea what's going on with Safari, but I'm having to post this in Firefox because something between blogger and Safari wasn't working correctly. Oh, well. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon, or I'll continue to have to post in Firefox.

It's been a very long day. Around four this morning I woke out of a dead sleep to check on Son. I know these panic type moments will fade and are just leftover worry from this past weekend. But, for now, it's okay.
Today was busy because we had MA and Son's blue belt test and then had to head over to the other Y for Son's soccer game. Luckily the kids took care of schoolwork earlier. We even stopped by the library on the way to MA this afternoon and picked up another hold that had come in for me. I now have Catch Her If You Can by Merline Lovelace. I really enjoy this series and the heroine is funny and smart and brave. She also seems more like a real person that some of the characters I've read and then there's the military aspect. Being a former AF wife, I get a kick out of reading some of the abbreviations and lingo. *g*
After class and soccer we headed home and because it was so late, we ended up with take-out from a favorite restaurant-Greek. I love their salads and if you'd told me ten years ago I'd like feta cheese I'd have laughed. *g*
After dinner we spent some time together. I am actually regretting the fact that Chris and I have separate chairs, though. We each will sit in our own chairs and he'll get on his computer and I'll pick up a book or get on my computer and we don't talk as much as I'd like. Ah, well. And this week Chris started back to school. Again. *g* He was going to go back for his PhD, but there's an upper management person at his work who is blocking everyone's attempts to get one. Says because he has made it so well in the company without one no one else needs one, either. A few are fighting it, but it takes time. Chris just decided to wait on his PhD and instead has gone back to school for his MBA. Yeah, my professional student is at it again. *g*
You know how you can be forgetful sometimes? Today has been BAD for me. I have felt absolutely flitter-brained today. As if my thoughts were disjointed. I know this happens to everyone sometimes, but I find it frustrating. And I will admit I abhor that I probably appear clueless to my kids.
Like now. I meant to tell y'all that I stepped out side my comfort box today. Since I was there for Son's belt test, Chris and I tag-teamed and he was there for Son's soccer game while Daughter went swimming and I worked out since I missed my workout earlier. I tried the Cardio/Agility class! I felt like I was out of place, but since this was also another woman's first time we teamed up together and completed as many of the activities as we could. I, however, find a new dislike for Spiderman thanks to the exercise I had to perform this evening named after him. But, I survived (though I felt like I wouldn't at one point, I swear I couldn't get my breathing under control). And I may even go back next week. I like trying different things. It keeps my workouts interesting. *g*

And that's all from me this evening. I need to get some rest. It's been a long day and I know I'm going to wake up again tonight, either to check on Son or from a leg cramp (my calves are tight despite stretching). I hope y'all had a spectacular day. I wish a fun and fabulous Friday for y'all. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

My Weeping Willow!

I know this will sound quite strange, but I love my Weeping Willow. I love how the branches sway gracefully with the slightest breeze. I love how tall and yet feminine it seems. We planted it the week we moved into this house and now the tree reaches up to the bottom of our bedroom window on the second floor. I hope it continues to grow and shade our yard. I took this picture Monday afternoon when it was warm. The weird Spring-like weather we've been having has started to fool nature into thinking it's time to let winter's grasp let go. Unfortunately, I think nature has some unexpected surprises coming. And I can only hope these new green buds of leaves are left unharmed.

It's been quite a day. It started off earlier than usual for us. I usually try to make any appointments for the kids in the afternoon, less chance of questions of why both kids are not in school that way. (I believe in not inviting trouble.) But, yesterday afternoon Daughter remarked that her ear felt full and clogged and that she couldn't hear as well through it as the the other. She also said when she bent down her ear hurt and that she was in a bit of pain in the ear as well. So, we called and made her an appointment for early this morning. Turns out Daughter has a slight ear infection. Nothing serious, and we think that between her swimming so much lately and her allergies are always terrible in the Spring, that that has a lot to do with it. And if it wasn't that? Well, I'd be surprised.
After the appointment we headed to the pharmacy to pick up Daughter antibiotics AND allergy meds. (The Doctor recommended allergy meds and I asked if they could be prescribed-even though they were available OTC.)(I save a bit of money this way.) They needed a little time so the kids and I went to the grocery store located right behind the pharmacy and I picked up some more grapes (I've been eating those almost every day lately.) and I bought the kids a doughnut. We killed time and the kids ate their doughnuts in the jeep (still have no name for the new jeep. Suggestions?) and then it was time to pick up Daughter's prescriptions.
We then drove home and tackled schoolwork. Well, I also tackled two loads of laundry, vacuuming and cleaning the bathrooms. Too much to do, so little time. *g*
Before long it was late afternoon and I left the kids and ran by the library and picked up a book that had come in for me from Inter-library loan. I hope I enjoy What the Heart Wants by Deborah Grace Staley.  Then I went to the Y for dance class and afterwards back home for time my family. While I had been gone Chris had arrived home (We were close to over-lapping when I left and he got off work.)
Chris cooked dinner and we enjoyed a bit of tv before heading for bed. Where I put Son to bed, Daughter to bed and then Son AGAIN to bed. (He's been so hyper and silly today!) *g* Such is the life! *g*
That all leads to now, where I'm up too late again. I'm up because I was finishing up the Deborah Coonts book, Lucky Stiff. And while the first half of the book seemed a little slow, the second picked up and more than made up for the first half. I know it takes a while to build a story, I guess I wasn't as patient with this book as I should have been. I do recommend it as a good read if you enjoy mystery.
I hope y'all had a delightful and smile-filled Wednesday. I wish a Thankful and Thoughtful Thursday for y'all. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Always Sweet, Sometimes Silly!

Yesterday's picture of Wicket was so serious I had to share this silly picture taken tonight. She had just being cleaned by Midnight (He's a good big brother.) and was starting to feel feisty, but noticed a straw we tried to entice her with. She took the bait and had  blast with that straw for over half an hour.

Today was a return to our regular routine. Though trying to get Son to rest and sit still was like trying to make cooked spaghetti noodles stand up. He's well enough to do schoolwork and I made him sit and watch Daughter's MA class. (Her students had a blast today as we dragged in all the weapons for them to look at and get a feel for. Imagine those kids when they saw two sets of Sai's, two sets of Eskrima's/Tomba, two bo's, and a practice Kitana.) Son sat on the sidelines and took care of some of his make-up schoolwork while I worked out. After Daughter's class we headed to the other Y where the kids took class. I knew today's class wouldn't be strenuous so felt it was okay for Son to participate (especially at this point because he could. not. sit. still.). I also warned his Sensei (MA Teacher) about what had happened and though Son hasn't experienced any pain since late Sunday night, I wanted him to be aware. Turns out his MA teacher is also a trained Paramedic (along with a certificate to be a personal trainer and he works at the Morgue on the weekends. He's quite eclectic in his interests, yes? Oh, no worries, he's not weird. He has a wife and two kids and is quite nice.) Son practiced with his bo the entire class. And Daughter learned some new moves for her Kitana. Son will test for blue-belt on Thursday and if Daughter can get the last four basic attacks for her level memorized she can test for purple belt next week. *g*
After class we headed home and had a simple dinner. It's a late night for us, so we don't cook a ton on Tuesdays. After dinner we watched a bit of tv and then headed upstairs. It's getting late and time for me to get some rest. Tomorrow promises to be another interesting day. I hope y'all had a terrific Tuesday. I wish a wonderful Wednesday for y'all. Goodnight and Hugs, B.

So Sweet!

Wicket is adorable. We haven't quite made up our minds about what she'll grow to look like, but at 17 weeks she's on her way. Today she had a Vet appointment to receive her first shots. Since we've taken her in at 5 weeks old, she's gained 2 pounds exactly. The vet said she was all legs. (We knew that, she reminds us of a colt.) And the Vet also said she appears very healthy (though we need to take a stool sample back in later) and she was given her first shots. Now she's sleeping, and has been all afternoon, but we're trying not to worry as the Vet said that that would probably occur.

Those of you on Facebook know exactly how my weekend went. Saturday went well, as my post said. What isn't said (because I couldn't post last night) is that after Son brushed his teeth and readied for bed the pain he'd been having in his side off and on for a couple of days (and no, no fever, no nausea, no vomitting. We thought maybe gas or he was um, constipa....I think y'all get what I'm trying to say, right? ). I let him lay on our bed for a while and after a bit he started to cry. His side really hurt. So, off he and I went to the ER. I'm not dummy, I'd read up on appendicitis and other possible causes. At the ER they ran a blood test and put a line in, in case he needed an IV and also so they could draw the blood for his tests. (It took 30 minutes before they could FIND a vein big enough. One in his arm rolled and meant the needle went in wrong, they ended up putting it in his hand.) And after that we waited and waited and then the ER Doc came in and asked Son a few questions and turned to me and said that Son showed some signs of appendicitis and some were not signs. But, to be safe they wanted to transfer us to the Children's Hospital connected to the University (which the hospital we were at was a part of the same University network). So, at 6am Sunday morning Son and I rode in an ambulance (after giving Son some morphine for the pain and even worse possible pain the journey might cause) to the Children's Hospital. He was admitted and given saline and watched. He was also given an ultrasound which found nothing wrong with his appendix, but noted that his lymph nodes in that area were swollen/inflamed. At this point Son wasn't in pain anymore. (Like I wrote above, it comes and goes.) And so he was allowed to have clear liquids for lunch and then after the results of the ultrasound a regular dinner. He was also told he had to stay overnight. He didn't like that and cried. He just wanted to go home. I had made him a promise earlier, that I would not leave him. And except for two trips on two separate days to a vending machine that took a total of five minutes, I didn't. I never left his side. If he needed to be moved I moved him. I put him in the wheelchair to take him to his ultrasound and vice versa. By the time last night rolled around at 10pm I had been awake 36 hours with only a 45 minute catnap while Son took a small nape. And Son? Had been awake 24 hours before agreeing to that nap, well not agreeing, more like couldn't keep sleep at bay any longer. We were informed at dinnertime yesterday that if all went well last night and this morning he could go home this morning. And this morning the attending Doctor visited and pronounced him fit to go home. YAY! (Last night Son did not want to go to sleep. He was scared and so watched tv until he couldn't keep his eyes open anymore.) I woke each and every time the nurse came to check him, even though I was beyond exhausted at that point. So I was as excited as Son!
Don't think it was just Son and I there yesterday. Chris and Daughter visited as well as the Out-laws. They even bought Son a DVD and a pack of cards to play while there.
We arrived home slightly before noon and I was never so grateful to take a shower in my life. And clean clothes-YAY! I had had Chris bring Son clean jammies and undies and my medications, but forgot to ask him for a change of clothes for myself (oops), but remembered to ask for fresh underclothes and socks.)
And so then began my need to clean the house. I had Daughter wipe down all the knobs and light switches and anything Son touches on a regular basis (going on the theory he had some sort of GI bug-the Doc's have no idea what was wrong, that was the latest theory they gave). And I cleaned all the furniture and his linens and vacuumed and did 4 loads of laundry. In the middle of all that I needed a nap, the past two days caught up with me. So, I slept and for a bit while Chris and the kids watched a movie and then when I awoke Chris and Daughter took Wicket to her Vet appointment.
After finished the cleaning I decided to attend Yoga class tonight. See, I just wanted my Monday to have some semblance of normalcy. Not to mention I felt off balance. Literally. I managed to hit my toe with the vacuum cleaner this afternoon and bent back my nail and I rounded the corner to a stall at the Y and banged my forearm so badly it bruised right there. After yoga I felt better. Not quite me, but better.
I made dinner while I asked and sent Chris to the grocery to pick up some strawberries for Son (More vitamin C than oranges, weird right?). The strawberries were a compromise. He wanted noodle soup and I wanted some sort of fruit and veggie with it. He turned down the grapes and applesauce. Strawberries he agreed to and eagerly ate after his soup. And no, he hasn't been bothered with nausea, just a very picky eater. *g*
The night was spent quietly and we headed upstairs early. While Son showered I ironed Chris' clothes and them we played a game of rummy and then I sent him and Daughter to bed.

As for reading? While I had nothing but time and too much of it and waiting yesterday I read Force of Habit by Alice Loweecey and Hunting Season by Shelley Laurenston. I also had Chris bring me another library book from home when he and Daughter visited yesterday since I had finished those two. He brought me Lucky Stiff by Deborah Coonts at my request. So far I was too tired and today too busy to make it past four chapters, but I hope to read some more soon.

And that's the last two days. Good golly it feels so much longer. I feel like I'm a hundred years old tonight. But, my sweet baby, my Son, is home safe and healing. I can't ask for more than that. Goodness knows I prayed so much and I am grateful my prayers were answered. If you prayed for him, thank you.
I need to get some rest. I hope y'all had a pleasing Monday. I wish a terrific Tuesday for y'all. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Kitty Comfy Time!

Fireball, Wicket and Pepper enjoyed a little together time on the edge of my bed the other afternoon. I didn't take a picture of the fact that my duvet was pulled down up near my pillow. And not by me! Seems a someone's play became a little spirited. *g* But, they were all innocent and quiet when I went upstairs that afternoon to check the laundry. Silly Kitties!

Guess what we did today? Bet you can't. Well, as long as you don't have me on Facebook. *g* We visited the mall we never visit (in the smaller city we live near) to visit a strange little store that has been in the same mall for over 25 years. And the reason for our visit? Weapons! That's right. You read that correctly. *g* We purchased Son a new Bo (aka Bo Staff). He's taller than his old one and you're not supposed to be taller than your Bo, so today we bought him a Bo that's taller than he is and he likes it a lot. It's a larger toothpick Bo,  meaning the middle is thicker than both edges that taper. While there we picked Daughter up a wooden practice Kitana (Japanese long sword). Daughter and Son both like the eskrimas, but Son loves the Kamas and Daughter loves the Kitana, so we'll see about finding Son a pair of Kamas after he practices with his eskrimas and the Kamas the MA Director sent him home with. Their new teacher wants both kids to not only have a main weapon they train with, but a secondary weapon as well. We also picked up two yellow belts for two of the kids Daughter's been teaching that are ready to test. We've arranged for the Young Black Belt to test them this coming Friday. Daughter is excited to have two of her students test. *g*
After the mall we headed for the Outlet Mall, yet one more town over. We wanted to try there for a new pair of jeans for Son and see if they had anything for Daughter. Mostly though? We wanted to window shop. We ended up purchasing Daughter a new sparkly and studded belt and snacks for the kids and Chris at the Harry and David outlet. (Most everything I like that they carry had some sort of soy. So not fair! Especially as I adore their chocolate covered blueberries.)
After that we headed home where we made my new favorite meal-Nachos! I really like being able to "build your own nachos" with our turkey and black bean and monterey jack cheese, pico de gallo (SP), red onion, sour cream (non-fat) and jalapenos! So Yummy! And for dessert delicious green grapes. I would have really enjoyed something else, but I've cut down on baking so I won't eat it all and I would almost swear everything sweet these days has some form of soy in it.
I forgot to mention that our first errand was actually to drop by the library and pick up two books that had come in. I now have: A Force of Habit: A Falcone and Driscoll Investigation by Alice Loweecey (a new-to-me author and a recommendation by Dru) and Lucky Stiff  by Deborah Coonts (the second book in the Lucky O'Toole Vegas Adventure). I enjoyed the first Lucky O'Toole book by Deborah Coonts and hope to enjoy this newest one. As for which one I've started reading? I've begun reading the Loweecey book. I opened the first page and was immediately drawn in by the lead character, a former nun. Are y'all reading anything good right now? Anything you'd recommend? I am ALWAYS open to recommendations. *g* And y'all know how eclectic my reading habits are.
Which leads to now. I need to get some rest. Tomorrow promises to be another full day. I need to take care of some things around the house as well as run to Target because we didn't go today and we need razor blades. Or rather Chris' face requires razor blades. *G* I hope y'all had a smile-filled Saturday. I wish a peaceful and restful Sunday for y'all. Goodnight and Blessings, B.

Exercise: All in all over three hours walking/shopping. I love window shopping. You can exercise and remain entertained at the same time. *g*

Just too cute!

Pepper continues to be an adorable cat. Most cats outgrow that kitten-ish look and behavior, but Pepper still has the innocent looking face and though she is sight impaired (we think it has something to do with distance/spatial issues), she still loves to kneed my arm and give me kisses.

It has been a long day. The kids were late finishing their schoolwork so we were late leaving to go grocery shopping this afternoon. We made it through Aldi quickly and I made a short stop by Kohl's to look at sunglasses. I looked last weekend and found a pair I liked, but put off purchasing them until this weekend. Instead of asking Chris like I did last weekend (Most unhelpful shopping assistant ever! *g*) I asked Daughter her opinion and she and I settled on a pair and I bought them. I wore them while driving to Sam's and when we left and found that after wearing them for over half an hour they made my head hurt. So, about an hour after I had purchased them I returned them. I guess I'm not meant to find any sunglasses anytime soon, though my current pair are scratched up to the point they've become annoying.
The kids and I then headed home and put everything away and had a snack. Soon Chris arrived and we headed to WW to finish up the shopping. Only. WW has stopped carrying even more of the items we purchase. They no longer carry the shampoo Daughter likes or the razor blades we purchase. Which means a trip to Target soon.
After we were done we all headed home and raided the leftovers for dinner. (Had to make room in the fridge! *G*) I can say my salad was yummy! And took care of some laundry as well.
As for reading? Nothing read today. I finished my book late last night and don't have another yet. The library has two holds in for me and I'll be picking them up tomorrow. And until then, well, there's always my keeper shelves. *g* And I cannot recommend A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness enough. It will grip you and not let go until the last page.

Anyway, that's our day. It's been a LONG day and I am more than ready for some sleep. I've had a sinus headache all day and hope a good nights sleep (and hopefully, and I can't believe I'm saying this, some cooler weather) will help. I hope y'all had an enjoyable and fantastic Friday. I wish an amusing and fun Saturday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Not like other girls!

I'm not sure what's going on with Blogger that I can't see this picture I'm trying to post. Hopefully, y'all can see it. If not I'll have to research what the heck is going on with Blogger. In this picture is Daughters MA bag. She took everything out tonight to place everything back in in a semblance of order. Included in the picture are: 3 Badges of Participation in Tournaments, her Eskrimas, Her Sai's, two Gi's (one white set, one black set), Her notebook for original defense moves, her booklet of Katas and list of requirements for each belt, her sparring gear, her mouthguard for sparring and her favorite bracelet-leather with sparklies, a pack of gum and a few first aid ointment packets. *G*Most teenage girls don't carry weapons. Most don't have mouthguards (though Daughter's is hot pink. *G*). My Daughter is not like most teenage girls. And I would have it no other way. I am so very proud of her. She is strong and confident. She's also stubborn and smart. She is better than I could ever be and for that I am grateful.

Another late night here. Well, actually morning since I could. not. put the book down again. I swear I only meant to pick it up to read a few more chapters and next thing I knew THREE HOURS had passed. It's rare that a book draws me that deeply in. I start to put it down to do something else and before I know it my hand has reached out and grabbed it and I'm reading again! *g* I adore books that capture my attention this well. Considering the content it's fair to say this book has bewitched me. *G* Pun intended. *g*

Anyway, this afternoon I was a very bad mom and totally forgot about Son's 4-H meeting. I guess it's because it didn't get written down on the calender for some reason. Or the fact that I was more intent on getting the kids to MA class on time this afternoon and then to Son's Soccer practice after that? I feel bad and will be contacting the librarian who handles the meetings to apologize. But, we did make to MA class on time. I worked out a bit while the kids were in class and after class we talked with the MA Director a bit. Daughter showed him a crack in her Sai last week and he said it wasn't a crack in the actual Sai, but a crack in the covering. He even tried to bend/break it to prove his point. It didn't break and we didn't think much of it until this afternoon when Daughter noticed her Sai IS bent. So, the MA Director has loaned her his set until we can replace hers. AND he sent Son home this evening with a set of Kama's (Weapons.) to practice with since Son is drawn to them. Luckily they aren't sharp! No really, LUCKY! And Son is supposed to test for blue belt on this coming Tuesday. Yikes! Cross your fingers!
After that we headed to Son's indoor soccer league practice. Son's talents seem to lie elsewhere, such as MA. Funny enough he is focused like a laser when in MA but in Soccer he was timid and unsure. We're hoping he has fun and learns a few things while doing this, and he's enjoying himself, but we do know he needs a lot of work. So, Daughter has volunteered her and her friends to practice with him this weekend. Which I thought was quite kind of her considering the fact that there are days they act like best friends and then others where there are moments she seethes because he questions her authority over him. But, I think that's pretty normal for siblings. (Though I am not positive because I was an only child.) Chris met us at the Y to watch Son's practice. Something I think is great of him. And I know Son is tickled that Chris is making an effort to attend one of the kids activities. (With his work schedule Chris misses most weekly activities.)
Afterwards we all headed home and had a quick and simple meal before unwinding. I took care of some filing and then we headed upstairs. I meant to go to sleep early tonight since I was up so late last night. However, 'best laid plans' and all that. *g*
But, it's seriously late and I need at least a few hours sleep. I hope y'all had a thankful and thoughtful Thursday. I wish a fun and enjoyable Friday for y'all. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Oops, almost forgot!

I almost forgot to post! I am reading a (pardon the cliche) a rather spellbinding book this evening and time has gotten away from me. The book? A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness.
As for the picture? It's of Midnight and Wicket playing/wrestling in a sunbeam on the floor yesterday afternoon. She shows no fear of him despite the fact that he's so much larger than her. And Midnight show remarkable patience considering she attacks him over and over and over again. *g*

It's been a simple day here. Not to many miles were driven, though we did have places to be. Daughter attended a writing workshop this afternoon and while there she picked up my hold for that had come in, the aforementioned book. After picking her up the kids and I headed to the MT Y where Son attended KidFit, I attended Zumba and Daughter went swimming. We all had a good time and then headed home.
Chris and I made dinner together and watched a bit of tv and he was kind enough to take care of one of my nighttime chores. I can't seem to shake the leaden and exhausted feeling after I exercise. I think my thyroid is off balance again. I'll give it a few more days, just to make sure it's not dietary, though.
After we headed upstairs for bed I began reading my library book and could. not. stop. I'm about halfway finished and have been reading so long and so intently that when I resurfaced I had a small headache. (It's not a short book.)
Anyway, this leads to now where I need to head offline and get some sleep before having to start our day all over again. I hope y'all had a smile-filled Wednesday. I wish a thankful, thoughtful and book filled Thursday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Adorable Pepper!

I took this picture tonight because I could not resist sharing this picture with y'all. Is Pepper not absolutely adorable when she's asleep? *g* We've taken to calling her Anime Kitty as a nickname since when she looks at you with her adorable face and big eyes she reminds us of the kitties from the Japanese Anime. *g*

I have been extra tired lately and with sore and aching muscles. I happened to notice that the muffin bread I bought contains soy. I've been eating it almost every day for the past 3 days. And if that weren't bad enough, the Dove chocolates I've been enjoying? Also contain soy. Remember that I'm not supposed to have soy. So, no more piece of chocolate at night for my sweet craving and no more muffin bread unless it's homemade. *sigh* Today was my first day without either. I'm hoping I feel more rested and less sore within the next day or so and if I don't I'll have a reason to visit the new Doctor I've picked out to have her test my thyroid levels.
However, just because I'm tired doesn't mean I stop my every day activities. After schoolwork this afternoon we headed out for Daughter to teach her MA class at the MT Y. Last week there had been a moment where a parent seemed upset because instead of one-on-one teaching with her child, Daughter had the most experienced students start to show the girl how to begin learning a kata. The Mom didn't like that. Too bad because there was a class of 7 students and the class is only an hour long. Each class is different. Today Daughter had more time. And the mother was happier. Luckily also the Y stands behind Daughter and said that the Mom shouldn't have disrespected Daughter the way she did and if it happened again to get the Youth Director. (These were the Youth Directors exact words as a matter of fact.) Oh, and we did ask the Youth Director when he was going to get an actual teacher for the MA kids as Daughter is only supposed to be filling in until one is found. He kind of blew that part off. *sigh* I can see we need to speak to him-again.
While Daughter taught class I worked out and when class was over we packed everything up and headed for the Pine Y for the kids to take their MA class. The new teacher seems to really like Son and again said how impressed he was with Son's focus and determination. He also said that Daughter is quite good, too. I love it when someone compliments my kids! *g* The kids class runs from 6pm-7pm and tonight they worked with weapons. Daughter with her Sai's and Son with his Bo and both with the new Tombas/Eskrimas we made. This weekend we need to visit a local import store and see what kind of Bo's they carry as Son is taller than his Bo now. (The Bo is supposed to be taller than the person wielding it.) Anyway, there's a Zumba-like dance class (They can't call it Zumba because the person teaching it isn't certified, yes it's the same person from the Hip-Hop class I took last week.) that runs from 6:30-7:30pm. I took the class for 30 minutes (and wondered why the snot I did after only five minutes, but I stuck it out for the full 30 minutes I had). And I was nice and checked with the teacher before-hand to let her know I could only stay 30 minutes because I had to be back to the kids by the time their class ended. She said it was fine and was very nice about it. This teacher? About the size of my eight year old,  just a little taller. If she weighs 100lbs. I'd be surprised and she's very energetic and very sweet. I've been lucky and Blessed to have such nice teachers for the classes I take at the Y. And yes, I push myself too hard sometimes. I'm just trying as hard as I can to be healthy and to try and lose a bit of weight.
After the 30 minutes? I was sweating and red faced and passed tired. *g* And the reason for the extra workout? Chris made his homemade macaroni-and-cheese tonight. Oh, so good. Oh, so bad for you. *g* (It has three types of cheese. *g*)
After the kids class we headed home for the aforementioned dinner and had a good evening together. Though it does seem so short since we don't arrive home until late. But, we want our kids to have good experiences and we want to encourage their interests. So, we do what we can to achieve that.
As for my reading? I've finished the Space Program book. I really found it fascinating. You never think of all the different things that go into space-flight. Including nausea from being weight-less and the fact that every single time a new piece of equipment it added to or in the space shuttle or the space station, it must be tested in a weightless flight before it can be added. Simply fascinating! And I'm still reading the Kristan Higgins book, as well. It's nice to revisit the characters, including the main character with her impossible crush on the same man for over 20 years.
No more from me. It's late, I'm tired and I still have to throw a load of laundry into the dryer. I hope y'all had a terrific Tuesday. I wish a Wonderful Wednesday for y'all. Goodnight and Hugs, B.

Fireball's Gaze!

Fireball is a handsome kitty. He always looks so poised and debonair. In reality he can be a huge klutz. *g* But, he's very sweet and loving. Not to mention he has to be watched like a hawk because he'll eat anything. Hence his nickname-"Goat".

It was a glorious day outside today. I don't know about where y'all are, but here it ended up being 69 degrees. IN FEBRUARY! I don't know what's going on with Mother Nature, but I'm not complaining. We even opened up the windows today while doing schoolwork and the cats had a blast in the windows all afternoon.
I had errands to run later this afternoon. I needed to pick up a prescription, but I also wanted to pick up a small something for Chris for Valentine's Day. He's not too big on sweets, but loves those caramels with the white creme in the center. So, we picked him up a bag of those. I made Chris a card, and also picked one up for him that I thought was cute and funny (I hid that one in his computer bag so he'd be surprised by it at work.) and I picked out his clothes for work (saving myself from being woken up out of a dead sleep and not wearing my contacts to be asked "which tie should I wear with this shirt?") and as a surprise I put a tiny heart (about the size of a quarter) in his shirt pocket. That way I knew he'd smile in the morning and whenever he found his other card during the day. *g*
He made me a gorgeous card with a hand drawn heart on the outside (not an ordinary heart-lots of swirly and curly cues all around) and with a hand drawn cat on the inside that looked like Layla! It's still sitting on my bedside table so I can see it every night.
After picking up Chris' candy the kids and I went by the library because the new database doesn't accept Daughter's password since it's not numerical. She had to change it. And we found out the new database is already messing up. The alert for books to be picked up that's emailed isn't working and it's acting up in other ways as well. They asked me what I thought and I was honest. I don't use the word hate often, but I did when I described the new database. They asked for particulars and we eagerly gave them a list.
After that the kids and I headed to the Y where I worked out for a few minutes before my Yoga class started and Daughter sat and read in the lobby while Son was in Childwatch. Yoga went well. The teacher complimented me on my practice! I appreciate the practice and the way it settles my mind and relaxes me for the coming week. And I may have blushed a bit and thanked her for complimenting me. Along with telling her I'm not really that good, but that I just try to do my best. She's such a nice lady and a great teacher. She's very encouraging and nurturing.
After class the kids and I headed home and Chris gave the kids the treat he'd picked up for them on the way home. He also made dinner-yummy quesadillas! We spent a nice evening together and right before bed I sanded and re-stained the Eskrima sticks that Chris made yesterday. They should be ready for the kids to use in class tomorrow.
As for reading? I finished the Sammi Carter mystery and enjoyed the book. The mystery was a good and the recipes in the back look delicious. *g* I'm now still reading the Space Program book (the chapter on equilibrium issues was actually fascinating) as well as the Kristan Higgins books I picked up at the UBS. It's a reread for me, but still enjoyable.
And that's it for me. It's late and I am sore and tired. (Mostly sore because of the numerous squats in Zumba yesterday.) I hope y'all had a a Sweet Valentine's Day. I wish a terrific Tuesday for y'all. Goodnight and pleasing dreams, B.

A Dream for the Kitties and for us!

I can't remember if I've posted this picture yet. Some days I really think I'm losing my mind! *g* Here is Layla at the top, Wicket in the middle and Patches at the bottom of the new cat tree. We have always wanted to have one of these cat trees for the cats and when we had a chance to purchase one for the kitties a few weeks ago, we knew we had to. The kitties enrich our lives so much, we wanted to return the favor. And let me tell you-that rope gets a workout from Wicket. We're sure we're going to see her swinging from it like Tarzan in another week or so! *g*

I am sleeping way later than I mean to lately. I just feel so tired when I wake up that it's hard to actually WAKE up. But, things are slowly returning to normal around here. This last week was busy and was the first week in over a month that one of us wasn't sick. Son finished up his antibiotics yesterday and is much better, thank goodness. Today was spent mostly around the house. Daughter and I did venture to the Y this afternoon. I attended a Zumba-thon and Daughter went swimming. As for the Zumba-thon? I actually arrived fifteen minutes late. Darnit. They didn't put the correct time on the monthly calenders they hand out so when I checked mine at home this afternoon I thought it started at the regular time. Turns out my need to be fifteen minutes early is a good thing! *g* Class had already started, but I jumped right in. By the end I was exhausted, but had fun. And though I didn't partake, there were snacks and drinks offered at the end of class. It was cute and a lot of fun. Daughter and I headed home and I thought I was going to start on making the weapons for Son from the wooden dowels we bought yesterday. However, the ONE project involving wood that Chris was interested in was this one. He cut the dowels, sanded them (with MY sander! *g*) and then (with my recommendation and supplies) stained them with Tung oil. He had a blast and I had to ask him, would he have done this if it weren't making weapons for the kids MA class and he said he wasn't sure. I am. He's a guy. They like to make weapons. *g* But, the Eskrima, or aka Tomba sticks are done. Well, mostly done. Daughter wants a spiral winding up hers. Now I just need to figure out how to get the spiral on there and make it even and perfect. *g*
Since I wasn't making those, I detailed and vacuumed the inside of my Jeep. *g* And raked up some leaves from my Monkey Grass.
By then it was time to fix dinner, but I wanted to try the new Wii game we picked up a few weeks ago. It has Yoga as one of the activities. It was better than the one I've heard about for the WiiFit. Though the trainers little encouragements were annoying after a few minutes. But, it was a decent yoga workout. (I chose a short workout to try it out with.) Which led to Chris wanting to try out another game and then the kids. So, I made dinner while they all played. *g* Though funny how as soon as I sat down with my plate the Wii was turned off and everyone headed for the kitchen. *g* Afterwards we watched the Grammy's. Did y'all watch the Grammy's this year? We were glad to hear Muse won an award.
I will spare y'all the tiny bit of drama that ended up happening later tonight. Though y'all on Facebook know about it. And an email will hopefully help take care of the issue as well.

As for reading? I haven't really had a chance to read today. Last night I read a bit more in the Space Program book and may, um, have also started reading the Sammi Carter book, too. I don't normally do that, but the Space Program book hit a rather dry patch and I had to put it down for a few minutes.

And that's our day. Not too busy, but we accomplished most of everything we set out to do. I even managed to get a few loads of laundry done! I hope y'all had a restful and smile-filled Sunday. I wish a stress-free and pleasing Monday for y'all. Goodnight and Blessings, B.

Exercise:1 hour and 15 minutes of Zumba, 10 minutes warm up with 18 minutes of Yoga and 6 minutes of cool down.

Guess who can jump HIGH!

Wicket may be tiny, but she's mighty! She is able to jump on the counter now and then to the top of the refrigerator to the top of the cabinets downstairs. For some reason this doesn't bother us as much as her jumping up onto the bannister upstairs. She's still little, but she's not going to let that stop her. Today the cabinets-tomorrow the world! *g*

We had a pretty good day. The Out-laws stopped by and visited for a couple of hours today. They brought Valentine's Day cards for the kids and candy for them as well. I asked MIL where my candy was? *g* I was just kidding and she knew it. (I have my own candy, bless Dove chocolates. *g*) As always for some reason the talk with them turned to people they know who died suddenly or who they knew who were in the hospital. Of course we also learned that FIL had an MRI on his shoulder this week and that he'll find out if he needs surgery (out-patient) sometime this coming week. MIL is doing much better now that she's switched her medication around. And they had fun playing with everyone's ring-tones this afternoon. Everyone agrees mine is the best. *g*
After their visit we headed out to run some errands. We needed to visit Lowe's for wooden dowels to make Son's new weapons. I could have bought them pre-made, but this way we don't spend a lot on something we're not sure he'll stick with and we tried to find a long enough dowel to make him a new Bo-staff, but they were all too short. I guess we'll have to give in and purchase him an already made bo-staff. (His current bo-staff is too short.) We even went to Home Depot to makes sure they didn't have a longer dowel.
After that we headed to Kohl's where I picked up some unmentionables with the gift card I had from returning the sweater MIL gifted me with for Christmas. And then? The UBS! YAY! I was glad to see that their inventory was a bit better this time. I ended up purchasing five books-four of them were for me and one for Son. I came away with: Total Rush by Deirdre Martin, Fools Rush In by Kristan Higgins (a reread for me, now I have my own copy), Out of Time by Lynn Abbey (a new-to-me author, Fantasy) and Sucker Punch by Sammi Carter (a mystery, I think I've read one other book by this author). And Son's book was from the Sci-Fi section. It's a Star Wars book. *g* Daughter bought a book  as well, a James Patterson. She's started to read and enjoy the Maximum Ride series. I think I may give the Women's Murder club series another try. I have read his King Tut book, though his theory has already been disproved.
After all that we headed home and had a simple and quick dinner. There were a few other places I wish we'd gotten to today, but I did manage to pick up cards for the kids for Valentine's Day while out, so at least that's been taken care of.
Ahh, the saga of the library database continues. Chris was able to place an Inter-library loan for me. The instructions they give are wrong and I guess we need to let them know about that. We also need to figure out why Daughter's password isn't working. She can't put anything on hold on the online database at all right now.
And as for what I'm reading? I am still reading the book I mentioned yesterday, the one on the Space Program. I found it interesting how they had to come up with a way to place the flag on the moon. Because the surface of the moon is so hard and compact it could only be placed about six inches down and when the craft took off from the moon it probably knocked the flag over. Who knew? Right?

No more from me. It's getting late and I'm very tired. I swear that's a constant state these days. I hope y'all had an amusing and laugh-filled Saturday. I wish a peaceful and restful Sunday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Books and Libraries- Oh My!

Remember when I wrote last night that I had nothing to read? I totally forgot I picked this book up at the library last weekend! This book is non-fiction, it details a look at the rigors of the Space Program and all it's foibles. I did warn y'all I had rather eclectic reading tastes. So far I'm a third of the way through the book and should say that it's not all 'cut and dried'. There are funny comments interspersed among all the information. As a matter of fact there have already been a couple of times I've cracked up reading it and have gotten some odd looks from Chris because of it. *g* If you're interested at all in the Space Program you should give this book a chance.

Today was a rather quiet and restful day and yet I am just as tired tonight as I was last night. I did make an effort to just relax today, too. Ah, well. I guess I'll be back to where I was eventually. It's just when it comes to myself I am not the most patient person.
Tomorrow the Out-laws are supposed to visit. It'll be good to see them, especially after MIL's health scare last week. She's fine now, but I keep reminding Chris and the kids that both of the Out-laws are getting on in years and are not in the best of health. We're also going to try and get by the big UBS tomorrow. I need some books to read and don't want to spend a lot on them. Not to mention I finally put some new books on hold at the library, but am not sure when they'll come in. And the new database? Makes it impossible to put books on Inter-library loan. I am so mad about this new system, but I know that I am just one person who sounds disgruntled. Though I do think I will say something about it the next time I'm at the library. You would think they'd want the new system to be user friendly. Guess not. And I'm sorry to complain so much about it, but you have no idea how much the library means to my life. I just can't afford to purchase all the books I want to read and the library is a God-send in our life. I can't ever remember being so aggravated when thinking of the library. Ever!

Anyway, y'all know what I'm reading and how my day went. I guess it's time to head offline. I hope y'all had fun and enjoyable Friday. I wish an amusing and relaxing Saturday for y'all. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Cat playground!

The kitties seem to love this area the most, right in front of the 'toy box'. Funny enough they don't drag out ALL the toys, just a few. Here is Layla with the catnip ball and a stuffed catnip moose and a stuffed cow that MIL gave us that the kitties like to fight with. *g* Layla wouldn't play with the catnip ball while I had the camera. I guess she didn't want to look undignified. *g*

Another tiring day. I thank goodness it's going to be Friday tomorrow. (Um, later today since I'm up late again.) I'm exhausted from this week and Friday is our slow day. Today was spent schoolwork and then to the Pine Y for the kids MA class where SURPRISE! They have a new teacher! He's older and his day job is as a coroner. (I know. But, he's really, really nice.) He has studied several different disciplines of MA and teaches a mish-mash of them all concentrating on which he thinks will work best and most comfortable for each individual student. He has several black belts in different MA's. And like Son he's a redhead. His Son will be taking the class with the kids as well. Today he mostly watched the students to form an opinion on to how well they are doing so far and how they move. He said Son shows fierce concentration and that he can tell Daughter is a perfectionist. Well, duh! *g* Daughter is her harshest judge when it comes to MA. And as long as Son is interested he does concentrate-hard. AND he will still be teaching weapons as well. Yay! I know the kids were relieved to hear this.
After class we headed to the MT Y (Kind of a reverse of Tuesday) with a short stop at McD's for a snack for the kids. Son's indoor soccer started tonight and I knew he needed a bit of "fuel" to help it along. Next week, since I can now judge the time of traffic and such, I can pack healthier snacks to grab as we head out. But, today was a treat for Son and Daughter.
Chris met us at the Y and Daughter went swimming and I worked out and he stayed and watched Son. I thought that was sweet. He really doesn't get to spend a lot of time with the kids or watch them with their activities so tonight was good for both Son and Chris. And normally I would have thought of watching, too. But, I am the one who is always there for their activities and two, I didn't get a chance to work out at the Pine Y since I watched the MA class to see how the new teacher handled things.
After soccer we all headed home and had a quick dinner and a quiet rest of the evening.

Reading-wise I am finished with my books I purchased this weekend. I finished the Lila Dare book this evening. I enjoyed the mystery and "visiting" with the characters from the first book, though I'm not fond of the political reporter for some reason. He's a likable character, I just don't like him as the romantic interest. I'm not saying the GBI investigator should be, but the reporter. Eh.
Next up? I have no clue. I have three books on hold at the library, and it took 20 minutes to search the new database to find them and to understand how to place them on hold. The new system is confusing and aggravating. Even Daughter doesn't like it, so it's not just me not liking change. However, we're stuck with it. In the meantime I guess I need to stroll by my keeper shelves on the stairwell landing and pick something to read.

Nothing else from me this evening. I'm tired and need to get some sleep. I hope y'all had a productive and nice day. I wish a fun and enjoyable Friday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Wicket lickin' a kitty lollipop!

Technically, that's not a lollipop. That the catnip ball. But, it was hilarious to watch her lick it like that owl in in the old tootsie roll pop commercials. What was just as funny was watching her lick it while it rolled across the floor and her scooting along after it. *g* Cats= seriously good entertainment. *g*

I can't believe how tired I still am. I guess getting sick back to back didn't do me any favors. And why can't I be one of those people who lose weight when they get sick? Instead I freaked out over everything I ate because I didn't feel well enough to cook and Chris worked and didn't feel like cooking and we had take-out way too often. Not fair. Not that anything in life is fair, anyway.
As for today? It went well. Son loved KidFit this evening and I attended Zumba, but not really Zumba because the Y got in trouble by having one of the instructors teach the class though she's not certified to teach the class. (The younger teacher, they trade off and they do have a couple of teachers that are certified.) Instead they called todays class Hip Hop Dance. It was fun, no latin moves or music, but still fun. Right in the middle of class I had a pain in my back act up. It's the same spot every couple of years. I just need to take some ibuprofen and stretch it out gently for a few days. I made it through class, that's what I had hoped for.
After we were done I grabbed the kids (Daughter went swimming while Son was in class and I was in mine.) and we headed home to pick Chris up and then we headed to Target to pick up Son some shin guards for soccer tomorrow. Son and I also picked up new toothbrushes since it's best when you've been sick to do so. And I also may have picked up a bag of Dove chocolates. What? I've been very good lately and this week is getting to me. Then home again for a quick dinner and to sit and spend time together for a while.

I finally finished the Jill Shalvis book. I enjoyed it a lot, the heroine was tough and independent and yet she didn't feel unapproachable and the hero was strong and take-charge. I though the story was well done and the ending was satisfying. And I don't know many authors who can make you laugh in one scene and heat the pages up so quickly they almost spark with another. Whew! *g* Next up is the Lila Dare mystery. I hope this one is as good as the first book in the Beauty Shop mystery series.

No more from me. I'm up late and having a hard time keeping my eyes open. I hope y'all had a wonderful and maybe a little wacky Wednesday. I wish a thoughtful and thankful Thursday for y'all. Goodnight and Blessings, B.

Layla enjoys the height!

Here's Layla enjoying the top layer of the new kitty scratching post. She needs help getting up there, but will sit and enjoy for hours. And the minute I head upstairs-for anything, she wants down and to follow me. Silly kitty! *g*

Ahh, another day back to our routine. I'm still feeling tired and I fell asleep pretty quickly last night so I guess I'm not at full steam yet. Oh, well. After tackling schoolwork this afternoon we left for the MT Y where Daughter taught MA class and we tried to track down their Youth Director so Daughter could talk to him about getting a permanent teacher in there. But, we couldn't find him! No one knew where he was. *sigh* I guess we'll have to track him down tomorrow or Thursday.
After that class we headed to the kids MA class at the Pine Y. The MA Director informed me last Tuesday that the young black belt who has been teaching the class has the same "weapon" as Son-the bo staff. He suggested we bring Son's to class and have him show Son a few things and that's just what we did today. This led to digging out the MA Director's weapons bag. (Sounds ominous doesn't it?) He has kamas, tonfas, the bo staff, nunchuks, Sais and one set of another weapon whose name I don't know. Daughter taught another student how to use and handle the Sais and the young black belt taught Son and another boy how to do a few moves with the bo's. They decided to make next Tuesday another weapons day as well since everyone had fun. *g*
After the kids class we drove home and Chris made dinner. Yay! I didn't have to cook! Of course that means I have to clean, but how is that any different than any other night? *g*
As for my reading? I couldn't stay awake to read last night so I need to finish the Jill Shalvis book tonight. And next up after that? I have two books left and will choose from there. I hope the library gets it's act together and adds in some more books to the database soon. And that I can find them without rolling my eyes too hard.
I hope y'all had a terrific Tuesday. I wish a wonderful and slightly wacky Wednesday for y'all. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Obsessive Kitty!

This kitten is obsessed with the feather wand. She knows where it's kept, in my closet, and tries her darnedest to get in there to get to it every day. On the off-chance she actually sneaks into the closet she climbs up onto a bookshelf we have in the closet and then walks across the clothes on hangers as if they're a rickety bridge. And when she gets to play with the wand she'll play for over an hour without tiring. Silly girl! Aren't those ears fabulous? *g*

The day has gone pretty well. The kids and I slept late, my fault since I'm still not sleeping well. While I can now breathe through my nose I'm not sure why I am still not sleeping well. Anyway, we eventually started our day off and have made progress. I tried not to  make the kids fall behind last week, but they did and now need to catch up. This afternoon the kids new Doctor's office called. They set an appointment for Daughter to see the Pediatric Rheumatologist next month. We were told if we needed to change the appointment time to call the PR's office. Which we'll need to do. We need to move the appointment about two weeks further into the month due to Chris' work schedule because he'll be teaching class until mid-month.
We never heard from the Y this weekend or early today so we called and were told that Son's practices will be held on Thursdays. Um, okay, but what happened to having them twice a week like the form I filled out stated? *sigh* At least there are enough participants and he's excited about starting. Of course they called while we were cooking dinner tonight and said he'd need shin-guards. Talk about waiting until almost the last minute!
This evening the kids and I headed to the Y (Chris was going to go home and change and then go up and work out.). Daughter went swimming and I tried working out on the stationary bike. I knew today would be hard-returning to my regular work-out routine, so I cut that in half. After that I went to Yoga. I never expected it to wear me out so much! My legs were shaking after class! That never happens. But, I'm looking at it this way. At least I made it through class. *g* And Chris? Really made it up there and worked out! Yay!
After all that we headed home and Chris and I made dinner together. He was talking about Son's soccer thing on Thursday and my phone rang. It was the Y calling to let us know Son would need shin-guards. He said "how fortuitous" and I teased him and said "ooh, big word". *g* I cracked him up and myself and I laughed so hard I coughed and wheezed and couldn't breathe. *g* I just love teasing him. *g* (No worries, he teases me back. *g*)
As for my reading? Still reading the Jill Shalvis book. I didn't have time to read today and not much last night. I'm hoping later tonight I'll be able to read. As for the new library database? I was giving it a few days to see if it grows on me and so far I have to say...... I really don't like it. At all. *sigh* It's way too busy to look at and the feature to see if books are available and at which library branch they're available at is weird and takes more time to navigate. Blergh! It's not like I can do anything about it. But, this is one of those rare instances I don't like something about the library. Shocker, right? *g*

That's all from me. It's getting late and I'm tired. I still have things to take care of, too. It's amazing how quickly your family will go back to being the way they were before you were sick. I hope y'all had a pleasing and low-key Monday. I wish a terrific Tuesday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Butterscotch pretends to be invisible!

A smiling, invisible cat, but then again he's not very bright. That's okay, he gets by on his looks and knows it. MIL thinks he's the "prettiest" cat we have. He agrees. *g* Good thing he's sweet, too. *g*

I had to do a few things around the house today that I'd been putting off. Except for a part of my forehead that throbs every time I cough and sinus pressure I wasn't feeling too bad, so decided to vacuum and clean the kitchen sink and the bathroom. Late this afternoon we even went to WW and finished up most of the grocery shopping. It was amazing how quiet the store was and how few people were out. *g*
As for tv tonight? We're not football fans so we watched the movie Red with Bruce Willis and Helen Mirren. It was really good! Lot's of action, a few laughs, and a good ending.

I'm hoping to get some sleep tonight. I am still not sleeping well since getting sick and last night I coughed so hard I scared myself.

As for reading? I've begun Animal Magnetism by Jill Shalvis. I hope to finish it tonight. And if I want to do that I need to head offline.... so!
I hope y'all had a peaceful Sunday. I hope y'all rested for the week ahead. I wish each of you a pleasant and stress-free Monday. Goodnight and Hugs, B.

Exercise: Ha. No. I hope to get back to it SOON.

Long and Lean Kitty!

I took this picture of Wicket the other afternoon. She was licking the catnip ball as though it were a lollipop and as it rolled away from her she stretched out after it. Look how long and lean and tiny she is! And her tail is just the same, as a matter of fact it can touch the back of her head. *g*

A rather long day here. Well, it felt like it. I didn't get to sleep until late in the morning thanks to not being able to breath through my nose and then having my ears crackle and sinus pressure hurt so much. Add in some dizziness and I tried to sleep sitting up. It didn't work well.
This afternoon I begged to go to the bookstore. I had nothing to read and while I love my keeper shelves I was finding it hard to pick more and more books off of it to read. And the library database is now up and running but the books I'm stalking haven't been added to it yet, nor is the new database user friendly. *sigh* I have no idea why they had to mess with old database. It worked brilliantly. Oh, well.
So, whether I should have gone out today or not-I did. Chris took me to B&N where I picked up: Polished Off by Lila Dare, Animal Magnetism by Jill Shalvis and I Dream of Genies by Judi Fennel. And also bought a B&N discount card. Well, Chris bought it for me. I'm calling it an early Valentine's Day present. And Daughter still had a bit left on a card she received for Christmas so I used my new discount card on her purchase, too.
After a quick trip by the store for some 7-up and then home. My coughing picked up while we were gone and has stayed tonight. I just want all this to go away. I, the one family member with infinite patience, am impatient to be better. Now. *sigh* And may finally cave and take the cough syrup tonight.
I was glad to head home this evening and enjoyed some time with Chris and the kids.
Anyway, as for reading? I have three new books! I won't be buying any more books for a few months so I plan on enjoying these. Now I just need to play eenie-meenie-minie-moe to pick one to read first. Which would you choose?
I hope y'all had an amusing Saturday. I wish a peaceful and restful Sunday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Haha. No.

Big brother and little Sister!

Butterscotch doesn't mind sharing space with Wicket, as you can see. You can also see the size disparity between Wicket and the adult kitties. And yes, Wicket's ears are still huge and Butterscotch is still "Twinky the Twitchy". *g*

I am on the mend! Yay! My fever finally broke early this afternoon after I stopped taking tylenol and bore through the aching and covered myself with blankets. I ended up sweating it out and wound up soaking wet, but it worked. No more fever and no more aching. Well, I take that back. Every time I cough I end up doubling over in pain because my chest and back hurt so much. But, other than that I'm good. I don't even have to schlump myself up the stairs using the handrail! Granted, I am more tired than usual after handling a couple loads of laundry, but anything is better than a fever. *g*
And my hubs? Rocks! Since it's been so rainy and cold here today he decided it wouldn't be good for me to go grocery shopping. So he had me email him the list for two of the stores I visit (Aldi and Sam's.) and he would go for me. Well, being Chris of course there was something that was funny. He didn't have a quarter for the shopping cart at Aldi (no, I have no idea why, the man can't keep change for anything) and so he went by the ATM and took some money out. But, we can't get anything smaller than a $20 out and he was still without a quarter so he went by taco bell and bought a small taco to have change to go to Aldi. Trust me when I say it's a lot funnier to say and hear about this than it is to type it. It's just typical Chris. The man is brilliant, but doesn't think about the small details unless it's something to do with work.  His Mom called him to let ask him if we wanted some chili they'd made (oh heck NO! Bleh! We like chili, just not his Mom's) and when he told her what he'd done she laughed, too. *g*
He managed to get through Aldi okay (though not without a phone call to me to check and see if we needed anything else. Um, no. I gave him a list.) Then he headed to Sam's. See, I don't normally take Chris shopping with me. The kids? They don't slow me down much and Daughter is becoming quite helpful when shopping (when she and Son aren't sampling their way through the store). But Chris has a tendency to stop and look at everything. EVERYTHING. Especially his toy department. Uh-huh, that would be the electronic/computers section. We make a joke about it, but there IS a reason I don't usually take him with me. *g* However, he did a good job there as well, though longer than I normally do because yes, he stopped to look. *g* But, he stuck to the list I sent him, so it went well, he did good! *g*

And for the first time in days I felt like reading this evening! Since I still can't get on the library database and haven't been out of the house for a couple of days I didn't have much of a choice and picked up another keeper off my shelves- The Royal Pain by MaryJanice Davidson. I guess I felt the need to finish reading the Alaskan Royals trilogy, just out of order. I do wish there were more books in this series. It's truly fun and light and has just the right amount of snark and irreverence. Since the library database won't be working again until after the weekend I'm hoping to feel well enough to go to the bookstore.

And that's Friday. Not a lot, then again that's not always a bad thing. I hope y'all had an enjoyable and fun Friday. I wish a relaxing and amusing Saturday for y'all. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Exercise: Hahaha. No, not yet.

Wicket the Wild!

This picture was taken over the weekend. Wicket is enjoying the new kitty scratching post/condo. She especially loves the rope that swings from it. She spent over an hour playing with the that rope.

If possible I feel even worse today than yesterday. Not fun. Son is not enjoying the chewable antibiotic, either. He says it tastes awful, since I know it smells awful I won't disagree. But, as long as he takes it, well, he can get over it.
Chris took half a day off of work today so he could drive Daughter to MA class. It was kind of him to do so. He's trying to take care of me, but he's not a Mom and therefore isn't quite sure what to do. But, he's trying. Of course we ate out again tonight. (Last night as well.) The kids don't mind and to be honest I can barely stand food, so haven't argued much.
As for reading? Ha! I never thought I'd feel too bad to read, but I have.

That's all from me. It's been a slow day. I know you're not supposed to, but I have some cough syrup left from when I had pneumonia and since my chest is killing me from all the coughing. I feel okay using it because I was being treated for hypothryoidism at the time, whereas anything over the counter comes with a warning to consult a Doctor before use is you have thyroid disease. I'll be taking some tonight, maybe. I don't like taking anything stronger than tylenol. I haven't gone to the Doctor because we're between Doctors right now, but I finally picked one to try from a list today. Wish me luck that they're accepting new patients and that this Doctor isn't a total..... anyway. (My Mom raised me to be a lady so I won't go there.) And this week must be a week for bad health because MIL had to go to the ER this afternoon. Her bottom chamber of her heart was pumping faster than the top chamber. She's being treated for this and has been for a while now, but they've decided to increase her medication after this afternoon. And no worries, she's home safe and sound this evening.
I hope y'all had a thankful and thoughtful Thursday. I wish an enjoyable Friday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Hahaha. I barely have the energy to walk up the stairs.

I hurt all over.

I have chills, a fever and am aching all over. Even my skin hurts. I'll try and post tomorrow. Son has tonsillitis and is on antibiotics and Daughter has been referred to a Pediatric Rheumatologist-and the only one is four hours away. We'll get her there, hopefully next month.
Hope y'all had a nice day and I wish a lovely Thursday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Layla, Lady of the Land of Perturbed-ia!

Layla conveys more attitude in one look that I've ever seen on another cat. She looks rather aggrieved here. She put up with me taking her picture, but you can tell she wasn't thrilled. *G* She's still my sweetie, though. There's no other cat I mind sleeping in the cabinet under our Mbath sink. *g*

*sigh* What a day. Son woke with a fever and hasn't felt well all day. Unfortunately we did still had a commitment for Daughter to teach at the MT Y and so I we went and while Daughter taught class he sat along the side. This is the bad part of being the only available parent. Yes, it's what I "signed up for", but it still makes me feel guilty that I'm short-changing one child over another on days like today.
After class we went by the grocery store so I could pick up some ginger-ale for Son, though he changed his mind and wanted apple juice. While there I also picked up a paperback. I love my keeper shelves, but with the library  upgrading the database I can't get any books in and can't check other libraries to see if they have anything and the books on my shelves are wonderful, but sometimes they are just not what I'm in the mood to read, or I feel like I remember too much of the books sometimes. And with the library thing this week it's almost as if the library were closed off to me. And for someone who depends on the library as much as I do? This week has already been very hard-and it's only the second day! I bought Dragon Warrior by Janet Chapman at the grocery store and lucked out that by using my grocery store discount card the book was on sale! Yay!
And after the grocery store we went to the Pine Y. I know Son wasn't feeling well, but Daughter really wanted to go and I knew Son could rest there with me. Daughter ended up teaching not only a student, but the interim teacher (the 16 year old who's a very nice fellow) the first kata for yellow belt. And he showed her how to balance when doing a certain round-something or other-kick could be improved. And Son? Napped. As a matter of fact he fell asleep on the way home, too. He rested on the couch this evening and we to beg and nag him to eat a half of a sandwich tonight. (He didn't finish it.) It was the only thing he ate all day. I tried all day. *sigh* He lost almost four pounds the last time he was sick, the child cannot afford to lose any more weight. I can say one thing good about today. Thank goodness for Children's Tylenol! And that both kids have a Doctor's appointment tomorrow afternoon.
And my cough reappeared this afternoon and has continued tonight. Whatever this crud is, it doesn't want to let go.
That's all from me this evening. It's late and I'm tired and need some rest so I can check on Son during the night. (Why yes, I am a paranoid Mom. How did you know?) I hope y'all had a terrific Tuesday. I wish a Wonderful (and safe for those of you expecting snow or ice) Wednesday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: 7.75 miles on stationary bike at level 11, 30 minutes weights.

Fitness Challenge Goal that was for January: 80 miles. Achieved: 75 miles. Darnit, didn't make it. But not too bad for a month of sickness, stress and ice.

Feeding time at the Zoo!

You'd think we starved the cats the way they react when we fill their food bowls. Here they are swarming the downstairs bowl after I had filled it. They were all meowing and rubbing along my ankles. Shown here are Butterscotch, Athena, Midnight, Patches and Pepper. Pepper is at the bowl, that girl likes her kitty kibble. *G*

Another busy day here and a return to routine! Of course I added in a few extra things. While I was feeling unwell last week I let a few household things slide. Today I took care of most of them. I swept, vacuumed, mopped and dusted the house. I don't like it when things are out of place or when things get scruffy, so I always feel better when everything is clean and shiny. *G* My family says I am a little OCD. I call it being neat. I swear the whole family would be slobs if I let them. *g*
This evening I headed to the Y and left the kids with Chris. He wasn't feeling well and I hope he's not getting whatever it was the kids and I had. He did say he felt better later. I worked out and enjoyed yoga class. The instructor tonight wasn't our regular teacher, but one of the newer teachers who fills in. She's a nice lady and though her classes aren't as "flow-ey" as our regular teacher I still felt as though it was a nice class. She complimented me after class, she said my poses were beautiful. Yikes! I don't handle compliments well and shrugged it off, but thanked her. (I think I thanked her, I can't remember. Uh-oh.) I also chatted with the ballroom dance teacher for a few minutes after class. He's a sweet guy and I've seen him dance, he's pretty good! (He gave a demo after Zumba class last year.)
After that I headed home and made dinner. And spent a little time with my family before gearing up for nighttime chores and bed. Whew. Now that the day has ended it feels longer than I remembered. *g*

I finished the Thompson book I read. It was an okay read, I prefer her 'Nerd' series, they were cuter somehow. I wish there were more contemporary books released. I like Paranormals and Urban Fantasy, but I do think the market for those is over-saturated with angst at this point. Brings to mind the saying "too much of a good thing". I miss lighter, funnier books in any genre. What? Life is way too serious and hard. Sometimes I just need to laugh or at least smile, and I mean a full smile-one that crinkles the corners of your eyes. I also wish publishers would explore the Science Fiction-Romance angle a bit more. I was disappointed to hear that Linnea Sinclair won't be continuing her Dock 5 series because of her publisher. Is there a genre you wish there were more releases in?
Anyway, after finishing the Thompson book I didn't have anything else new-to-me to read, so I once again strolled my fingers along the keeper shelves. I wanted irreverent so went for my Alaskan Royals collection by MaryJanice Davidson. I started backwards, though, and read The Royal Mess first. Then decided I wanted to read the first book The Royal Treatment. I'm having fun visiting with these hilarious characters again. *g*

And nothing more to share from our day. It's been quiet but nice and to me that's a good day. I hope y'all had a pleasing and low-key day. I wish a terrific Tuesday for y'all. Goodnight and Hugs, B.
