Book Mom

A Southern Mom who is trying to be less shy and loves books.

Oreo looks cranky!

Son took this picture of Oreo last night. I had given him a mission *g*. I asked him to take some pictures of the kitties for me. *G* He does good work. Oreo does look slightly peeved, though.

Today was normal. *G* Not quite routine, because the kids don't have schoolwork this week, but still pretty nice because the kids were able to play with their friends outside this afternoon. AND Son's glasses came in today. He looks very cute wearing them and made me feel so guilty when he put them on and started looking around. He went into Daughter's room right after he put them on to show her and looked around her room and announced "Your room is a mess!" I cracked up laughing. *G* He's done really well wearing them all day, but asked to take them off this evening. We let him, but explained that he's going to have to get used to wearing them all the time. Because while his eyes aren't as bad as mine (The Eye Doc did say that they will be by the time he's my age.), they are worse than Daughter's. And Chris? Yeah, perfect eye sight. Goober. *g*
Guess what? I read not one, but two books last night. *G* I finished Midnight's Master by Cynthia Eden and loved it. She DID manage to make a demon, not a hero, but worthy of love. I hated that the book ended. Don't you love when you find books like that? I'll post a review later. After finished that book I started (and ended up staying up too late to finish) Immortal Danger also by Cynthia Eden. This one had a Dragon shifter and a female Vampire that kicks butt! I truly enjoy books that don't make women victims, but rather more the role of hero than the actual hero. *G* Do y'all like strong women in books, or do you prefer the old fashioned heroine rescued by the oh, so strong Alpha hero? Oh, and since April starts tomorrow, any books being released during April y'all are looking forward to? I have several, but am trying hard to be good. *G* I don't know if I can keep it up, though! *G*

Well, time for me to help Chris move the furniture to various other places besides the LR. I hope y'all had a pleasing Tuesday. I wish a happy and simple Wednesday for y'all. Goodnight and God Bless, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Challenge day 59, core exercises with the balance ball, TurboKick class (Chris did it too!) and 25 minutes of weight machines. I'm going to be sore tomorrow. *G*

Isn't Athena a cutie?

This picture of Athena makes me smile. Son took it this evening and I had to share it with y'all. It's funny when kitties get into their odd positions, even funnier when you can catch them doing it! *G*

I've had a decent day. *G* It was going to be a return to routine, but I had a last minute urge to be nice to the kids. (Probably something to do with the fact that out of the last week, only yesterday and today had actual sunshine, and tomorrow we're supposed to return to clouds. *sigh*) SO! Today started Spring Break for the public schools here, and so it started for my children as well. To say they were ecstatic, would be an understatement. *G* To say that I am happy to have a small break, well, I'm not ecstatic, but it will be nice.
I made it to the library and the pharmacy before the Y this evening and while Daughter had 9 books when we left, one for Son, and Son had a few auto magazines and a pirate book, I? Had nothing. I just couldn't find anything at the library. However, I have started Midnight's Master  by Cynthia Eden and so far am LOVING it. I can't wait to see how the author makes a bad to the bone demon into hero material. *G* Although, we all know love can do anything. *g*
Tomorrow may be a busy day around here. Chris is off (normal day off), and we have our usual Tuesday things, less schoolwork. However, we have to move the furniture out of the LR tomorrow night in anticipation of the carpet cleaners arriving Wednesday. Fun. Makes me almost reconsider all the heavy wood furniture we have. *G*

That's it from me tonight. I want to dive back into my book and there are chores to do before I can do so. I hope that y'all had a lovely and energy filled day. I wish a pleasant Tuesday filled with good books, good friends and smiles. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Challenge Day 58, 1 Hour Yoga.

What're you looking at?

Can't you just imagine that's what Layla is thinking in this pose? (Please excuse the red-eye, btw. Still working on that.) She definitely has her own personality. *G* Trust me, despite the look in this picture, she's actually very sweet. And cute. *G*
(Oh, and that's Fireball's tail in the corner. *G*)

Today was nice. The sun was out and while we did have high winds, it was just so pretty! I was VERY glad to have the kids play outside today. *G* I had the house, mostly, to myself. So, what did I do? Not rest or relax. *G* I swept, vacuumed, cleaned the bathrooms, emptied the dishwasher, washed a few windows, did laundry and polished the furniture. Not to mention picked up the kids things off of what seemed like every available surface. By the time I was done my fingers were tingling at the ends and I was DONE. At least I thought I was. *G* Because I made dinner last night I asked Chris to make dinner tonight. But, we were out of ONE ingredient. So, he ran to the grocery store and I? Could not wait, I knew we'd end up eating late if I did, so I went ahead and made dinner. We had taco salad. *G* The ingredient we were missing? Taco chips for the base of the salad for each persons plate. And everything turned out quite yummy, Thankyouverymuch. But, Chris is definitely cooking dinner tomorrow night. *g* We have been talking about flooring. We need to make a decision on what to do with the LR flooring, granted we have until November. But, we keep going back and forth on whether to put in wood, or more carpet. We're leaning toward wood because the cats and kids have torn up and worn down (not to mention the big kool-aid stain Daughter made) our current carpet in the 5 years since we've lived here. But, we have a concrete slab under the carpet we have now and we are a bit out of our element in this. *sigh* Personally, at this point I'm ready to just put slate tile down. But, I don't think that will go over too well in our area. California or Florida, yes, SC-but not on the coast; not so much. Decisions, decisions.
With everything I DID do today, there was one thing I didn't do. I didn't take time to read. I hope to do that this evening, which is one of the reasons I'm posting so early (for me).
That said, I'm tired and will soon be headed upstairs. I hope y'all had a restful and peaceful day. I had half of that. *G* I wish a lovely, sunny, and productive Monday for y'all. Goodnight and Hugs, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Challenge day 57, core exercises with the balance ball, plus a few extra. Does cleaning count? *G*

Spring is creeping up on us!f

I knew with all the pollen I'd seen the other day that Spring had arrived, not to mention my weeping willow trees now have green leaves again. However, it was a lovely surprise to look out yesterday and notice that my flowering cherry tree has flowers! What was really odd, though, was that last year? This tree bloomed white. This year it's started blooming pink AND white. *G* It was pretty to see a spot of color on such a grey and dreary day.
It was another rainy, grey and dreary day today. Tomorrow we have hopes that after four days of rain we'll have some sun. *G* I think the low-lying areas in my (and my neighbors yard, Mrs. M) are tired of being flooded. *g* We were going to stay in and not venture out of the house today, but after I finished the ironing early this evening I realized that we still didn't have replacement pants for Son and he's been stuck wearing 2 pair of good pants and one pair with a rip in them all week. (And by good pants, I'm not talking about his Dress pants, just his everyday pants.) So, we headed to Kohls. I usually can find good sales there and we did find Son a hoodie to replace the Spring fleece he's outgrown (my kids are growing too fast! *G*) We got it for less than $10, not bad since the original price was $32. *G* I adore a good deal. *G* While there I realized Daughter has outgrown (Again with the growing! I'm giving these kids coffee, it stunts growth! *G*) a few of her nicer clothes and needed something to wear next month to Son's First Communion. She won't wear a dress on a dare, something that her Dad thinks is a bit odd. But, I keep reassuring him that she's a tomboy and she'll outgrow this phase. (I didn't want to tell him that when she DOES want to wear a dress, it'll be when she's started noticing boys more. *G* I didn't want his heart to stop. *G*)(Although, we did elicit a promise that she'll wear a dress this Fall to her Confirmation.) Anyway, we found her a nice pair of grey pin-strips slacks and a cute seafoam blue/green blouse. It even *gasp* had a small ruffle around the neckline! It's so funny, I know exactly what will appeal to Daughter, and knew the small detail around the neckline was feminine enough to keep the blouse from being too plain and wouldn't bug Daughter. Whereas MIL? HAS bought Daughter a shirt that was ruffled all across the front, a month or so ago. That was taken back and I picked out a shirt that Daughter loved. I know my teenager. Oops, went off on a tangent, sorry. So, we bought the slacks and blouse and hoodie. ALL on sale. I? Am good. *G* We did look at jeans for Son there, but c'mon! They were $18 ON SALE. (Normally $30.) I KNEW that The Children's Place would have a better selection, so we headed over there and found a pair of jeans AND a pair of athletic pants for him as well. Under $30. *g* I think I am done shopping for Son anywhere else. Ever. I always end up in there anyway. Heck, I wish Daughter hadn't outgrown their clothes! And now I'm DONE. NO more shopping. Please. *sigh*
Anyway, after that we headed home where I made dinner, we were all craving stir-fry and we relaxed the rest of the evening. It was nice. Which leads me to now and bedtime (and hopefully a chapter in the ARC I won. I finished the In-laws book and it was enjoyable, entertaining and funny. I hope that y'all had a fun and relaxing Saturday. I wish a peaceful and restful Sunday for y'all. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Challenge day 56. Tomorrow I hope to get on the treadmill for a bit, the coughing wasn't as bad today.

Layla waiting for me!

This is the sight that greeted me this evening when I finished my shower. Layla was waiting for me to hurry up already and pet her. *G* It's our little tradition that after I lay down she climbs up on my chest and I pet her for a bit before she clambers off to sleep at either my side or feet and I try and find some room from the furry bed hog! *G* Funny how she stays on my side of the bed and doesn't bother Chris. *G*

It's been a pretty quiet day. We didn't receive any hail for which I am thankful, but it did rain heavily all day. It's been three days now and the kids are getting antsy. So I took the kids out to run a couple of errands this afternoon. In the rain. We went to WW where I returned a pair of jeans I'd picked up for Son (I didn't like the way they fit, I should have known better. And no, I didn't find anything for him the other evening at Marshall's either.) He's now still down three pair of pants. After that we ran by the grocery store (yes, I know it's weird) to pick up some sodas on sale. I can not start my day without a cold glass of Diet Dr. Pepper. I just can't drink anything hot in the morning. Yuck. Son was being his usual funny self because I don't use an umbrella for us. We had one of those giant ones, but it broke and I was actually happy about it because the kids would fight over who held it and Daughter is taller than Son and he complained he wouldn't be covered and if Son held it Daughter would complain that it was too low and she had to stoop. SO! NO umbrella. What? They're going to melt? They have hoods and hats. Anyway, Son was teasing and said he was going to melt and I asked him if he thought he was made of sugar. (And yes, we teased him back about the Wicked Witch in OZ who melted.) And he said yes, he was made of sugar. Daughter chimed in that he was sweet, but that he wasn't that sweet. And then he started goofing saying he was more like Splenda. *G* God, I love my kids. *G* And it was nice because they managed not to fight. *G*
After picking up the sodas we headed home and I was thinking it was a lovely day for stew. Whoops. Maybe tomorrow. We had vegetarian corn dogs, veggies and curly fries for dinner instead. *G* Did you know that some cats like vegetarian corn dogs? Neither did we, but we do now! *G* My cats ate VEGGIES. *G* And yes, I am aware how weird, crazy and hilarious they are. *g*
As for reading, I have almost finished I heart my in-laws by Dina Koutas Poch. It really is a funny book and I'd recommend it to anyone, whether you're married, dating or single. It really suits those like me, who have a warped sense of humor. *G* As for what to read after this? I received an ARC I won from the lovely and talented Cynthia Eden. It's Midnight's Master and isn't due out until June. I can't wait to read it, as it features a dark and mysterious character that has been in her other books. It's staring at me right now, almost calling my name, but I have about two chapters left in my other book.......*G*

Ack! It's late and I need to get some sleep. I hope y'all had a fun and happy Friday. I wish a relaxing and pleasing Saturday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Melissa's challenge day 55, plus balance ball core exercises and a few others. Nothing else due to the coughing that hits every time I move too fast. I WILL get back to exercising soon.

Just had to share!

I just had to share this picture with y'all. That's one of the strawberries from the container we bought at Sam's last week. I cut them all up and have been eating them with blackberries for breakfast. YUM! *G*
And yes, that's MY hand. I wish I had prettier hands. *G*

Just to show y'all the "bird"!

The pink feathery thing in this picture is the "birdie" which is suspended from the wand by cord. The wand is quite flexible and the bird, when waved from side to side flutters like wings on a real bird, causing our cats to GO NUTS. Daughter dragged out the wand again this evening and the kitties, yet again LOST THEIR MINDS trying catch it. It was great fun! *g*

So, after staying up late last night I took a benedryl on top of that so I could get some sleep. And boy-howdy did I! I ended up sleeping late. Oh, well. I got a good nights sleep for a change and don't remember hacking away during the night. I can't take them during the day, so the coughing has returned. You wouldn't think so because of the rain we're getting, but you'd be wrong. Ah, well.
Today was Son's last basketball class and Chris got off work early enough to come watch him. Son even won a t-shirt for winning the Free Throw contest. *wink-wink, nudge-nudge*  I can say we were thrilled with how well he has improved, though we did notice instances of him just standing there watching everyone. We're not sure if that's because he was off in his head rethinking about Star Wars, or whether he couldn't see them. *G* We're hoping for the latter, but the former is probably more true. See, I've never been athletic. My parents didn't involve me in sports at all. Nada. The only things I know today about sports, I've noticed on my own. I do want my kids to have those opportunites though, hence the Skills and Drills for Son. Daughter tried basketball years ago, but she was SO not coordinated. We also tried Soccer for her, but she was a lot like Son is now, off in her own little world in the middle of the game. *g* Anyway, tonight was the last night of both their classes. On one hand I'm looking forward to having my nights back to our routine where I drop them off in childwatch and go work-out. However, I also know that the kids need some sort of outlet. (Don't get me started on how even public schools are cutting PE around here.)(And then they complain about kids and obesity, no, really?) Um, oops. Back to it. So, I picked up a flyer last night about a new Martial Arts class that the Y will be doing soon, something called Shotokan. This is something the kids could do together, is on the same night, and at the same time. I'm going to be emailing to get more info on it, but it seems like it might suit our needs. My rambling point is, I want the kids to have the encouragement and support I never got to try new things and maybe find a niche, stay healthy and learn that exercise can be fun. Do you think I'm asking for too much? (Oh, and Daughter is still interested in Swim Team, however there are no new sign-ups until Fall.)

As for reading, I started the In-laws book last night and read a couple of pages before my eyes started to close when I blinked and it was harder for them to open back up! One paragraph made me laugh like a loon, though. (Um, I'm easy that way. *G*) "A brief look at history will tell us that Adam and Eve were the luckiest couple in the world. Yes, they were tempted by a serpent, banished from paradise, and parented sons who murdered each other. But, they did not have in-laws. You will." That's from the chapter titled "Do you want to meet my family?" and the book is:  I heart my in-laws by Dina Koutas Poch. I am loving this book, the funny look at meeting and dealing with a controlling or crazy in-law is pure fun. And I may have been nodding my head a bit. *G* I can't wait to read more. *G*

Well, I've bored y'all enough tonight. I hope that y'all have had a lovely and smile-filled Thursday. (We had more rain and tomorrow? Rain AND lightening with a possibility of hail, niiiiiiice. *G*) I wish a joyful and fun Friday for y'all. Goodnight and Blessings, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Challenge Day 54, more core work with the balance ball and a few more exercises. That's it. I watched my kids in their last nights of classes instead of working out. I'll have to make it up tomorrow and hope the coughing goes away soon.

"I believe I can fly...." Sing along with me! *G*

I think that should be Fireballs theme song. You know, Peter Gunn had that lovely theme and Perry Mason had a theme...... We took time out of our busy day to run by the pet store and pick up a new "bird wand". The cats destroy them pretty quickly (within a week or two) and we haven't had a good one in almost a year..... So we decided to treat the kitties. And, well, ourselves, because you KNOW the entertainment value alone......*G* (Btw, you don't want to know how many pictures I had to take to get one taken quickly enough to catch the kitties in the air. *G*)

I am posting this very late. I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself tonight. I feel like a very, very bad Mommy. We took Son to his eye appointment today and were there almost two hours. Son's eyes had to be dilated to get a correct measurement of his near-sighted-ness because one of his eyes had been straining to see everything, so much so that it kinda "spazzes" and has a hard time focusing. (See? BAD Mommy.) We had no idea. None. Yes, he has a habit of sitting close to the TV, but it's my impression that all kids do that. So, Son's new glasses will be in next week. *sigh* In good news I picked out his glasses, they look really cute (rectangular) and he agreed with my decision, so no fighting. Yay. *sigh* After that I gave him the day off of schoolwork, with the Doc's approval because of the dilation. His eye took HOURS to go back to normal. And Chris? Is a big goober when it comes to eye stuff. He can't put drops in his own eyes, let alone watch me put in my contacts. He even gets a bit freaked watching me put saline solution in my contact case. BUT, he was really sweet and went with us today and didn't rub his eyes TOO much when Son came out with dilated eyes. *G* And also? God Bless Vision Insurance.
Because Son's appointment took so long we were unable to get his hair done and spent the time running home and grabbing a snack before heading back out for RE. While taking the kids in to RE we dropped off the paperwork for VBS for the kids in June, Daughter will be volunteering and Son will be attending, but NOT in the same class. While the kids were in class (and had a Bishop's party) Chris and I headed to the library where I picked up my book from Hold, I heart my in-laws by Dina Koutas Poch. It's a satire. *G* The tag line reads: "falling in love with his family- one passive aggressive, over-indulgent, grandkid-craving, streisand-loving, bible-thumping in-law at a time". Seriously, knowing the troubles I have with the Out-laws, how could I resist? And just so you know, I wasn't the one who came up with the Out-law monicker. *G* Tori came up with it. And it's absolutely perfect.
Oh, after picking up the kids from RE Chris dropped me off at Marshall's while he took the kids one store up to PetSmart. I was on the hunt for pants for Son. He's down 3 pair from the past two weeks. One he outgrew, one pair he wore the knee out of and the other "somehow" got ripped. Chris and the kids picked up a the above mentioned bird-wand. After that a trip by WW because I was out of tums and Daughter's goggles broke and she needs them for swim class, even though her last class is tomorrow. THEN we headed home, fixed a quick dinner, let it settle, played with the kitties (Again, mentioned above.) and headed to bed.
I'm still up because I'm doing laundry and have been coughing for two days now. I didn't know why until it rained today and I noticed "huh, I see pollen floating". Now I just need to get rid of the darned cough! It's gotten bad enough in the past two days it's freaking Chris out a bit. It also explains why I was so tired yesterday and today. My chest hurts. *sigh* And yes, I am of the "ignore it and it will go away" thought, um, except when it comes to the kids. Have I mentioned that Daughter's tonsils are still swollen? Yeah..... we're going to make her another appointment with the Nurse, but we have a pretty good idea of the 'why'. The swollen tonsils started the same time the weather here started to change AND she started swim classes, so it's one or the other.

Anyway, it's late. No, really, really late. So I'm headed off-line. I hope y'all had a good and productive Wednesday. I wish a happy and smile-filled Thursday for y'all. (Tomorrow, Thursday, is the kids last night of classes, so another busy day here.) Goodnight and Hugs, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Challenge Day 53. That's it, there wasn't time for anything else.

Brotherly love!

Butterscotch and Midnight aren't brothers by blood, but by love. Why else would they squeeze themselves into the cat-cube together? *G* And actually, Butterscotch was there first, Midnight HAD to push his way in.

I didn't sleep well last night, but learned some interesting facts. *G* Did you know that cats have only 3 blood types? But that dogs have 7 0r 8? I also learned that Midnight doesn't just look like an Oriental kitty, he acts like one too! Dog like, check. "Talkative", check. Intelligent, check. Loving family pet, check. *G*
I really don't know how to describe the day. I'm so physically tired I feel WAY older than I am. Sometimes I push myself too hard and don't know when to rest. I learned my lesson today. *sigh* Let's see...... schoolwork was done and then I vacummed, moving furniture as I went along (as in picking up the couch on one end and having Daughter vacumm under it while I held it) after that we went by Goodwill with some items and then headed to Academy Sports to exchange the pants Chris bought last week. While there I found a sports bra on clearance! It fit and everything! WOO! I also picked up a new pair of work-out shorts considering I've been wearing shorts to work out in that are older than SON. *G* We then went to the Y for Daughters swim class. I was tired and didn't have the energy to work out, but still walked on the treadmill, but only about a mile. I then took Son to watch a "pick-up" basketball game in the gym. I was hoping he'd understand and recognize the things he's been learning in the Skills and Drills class. I made sure to point out the blocking/guarding and passing. We didn't get to see the end of the game, we had to pick up Daughter from her class. *g* Oh, and Chris will be getting off early Thursday to watch Son and Daughter in the last of their classes. AND we called and now have an appointment to have the carpet downstairs professionally cleaned, because although we have a shampooer, it can only do so much for two kids (who like to spill things) and 7 cats.
Tomorrow promises to be a full day. Son has an eye Doc appointment tomorrow. I already know he's going to need glasses and am a bit sad about it. We also have the kids RE classes tomorrow night and somewhere between the two I have to find time to get Son's hair cut. *sigh* Is it bad that I can't wait until we have our Wednesday nights back, at least for the summer?

Not much of a chance to read last night. Maybe this evening when we head upstairs. I do know I have a book in at the other library, a non-fiction, comedic book about In-laws. *G* Reading anything fun? *G*

I hope you've had a lovely Tuesday, it was pleasant weather-wise here today. I wish a smooth, nice Wednesday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Challenge Day 52, core exercises with the balance ball, a bit less than one mile on the treadmill at the Y at a speed of 3.5 and level of 3. (Told y'all I didn't feel well.)

This little piggie went to market, this little piggie......

Only substitute kitties for piggies. This was my kitchen this afternoon when Daughter made herself a sandwich for lunch. Notice that Layla is the only kitty not begging. Pictured are Fireball, Patches, Oreo, Midnight, Butterscotch, and Athena. (And Daughter, in the corner with a treat....)
Today was back to routine, which I appreciated. *G* I had trouble waking up today, which meant the kids overslept as well. *sigh* But, we managed to get everything that needed to, done. This afternoon we headed to the library (still haven't heard anything back from my email) where I picked up Ghost Town and Daughter picked up a few books. Son grabbed some magazines, this kid is going to be a serious car aficionado if he keeps this up! I'm hoping he's leaning toward the engineering aspect, but he can quote car stats already, so I kind of doubt it. *G* Then again, so can Daughter. *g*
After the library we headed to the Y for my yoga class. Chris worked late, so went home afterwards. After my class the kids and I arrived home and I started dinner. In a rare occurrence, I wanted some red meat. I must have needed the iron. *G*
As for reading, I started Jaye Wells' Red-Headed Stepchild last night. Woo-boy! It started out with a bang and since I didn't get past more than the first chapter, I'm hoping it stays that way. *G*
Now it's getting late (Castle ROCKS!). I still have chores to do. I hope y'all had a nice Monday. I wish a fabulous Tuesday for y'all! Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Challenge Day 51, 1 Hour Yoga.

Why would she?

Why would Oreo want to have her face anywhere near Daughter's shoes? I don't understand kitties and their love of shoes. *G* Doesn't she look silly and cute, though?

You know how there are days you wake up and wonder where in the world you're going to get the energy to get up? Yeah, that was me today. I was so tired and for a bit couldn't figure it out, then realized that HEY! I don't get much down-time. *g* And was today that down-time? Sort of. *g* I did take it easy and just rest for the afternoon. But, I helped Daughter with her laundry and started dinner this evening. Also, I worked out. I COULD have read. But, my attention span was flighty.
All in all it was a quiet day. I didn't go anywhere, giving the kids a chance to play with their friends instead. And this time they stayed outside. Well, except for trips inside for snacks, the bathroom and drinks. *G*
Now it's time to head upstairs, do some more laundry before getting some sleep and maybe cutting Chris' hair. *G* I hope y'all had a peaceful and restful Sunday. I hope you took time for yourselves. I wish a stress-free and pleasant Monday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Melissa's challenge day 50, 2 PowerBurns on the treadmill, 1 miles jogged/run on the treadmill, balance ball core exercises. (The challenge and balance ball exercises were right after I woke up, the treadmill was this evening.)

An Oldie But Cutie!

This picture is three years old. It's of Midnight not long after we adopted him. He wasn't the cutest kitten ever and I have to admit I thought he looked like a bat. *G* (I wanted to name him BatCat.) But, since then he's become a handsome kitty with sharp features. The best thing of all? He's a total sweetie. (Granted, he's a bit of a Big Brother Bully to the other kitties.) *G* What other cat do you know of that likes to hug?
Today was jam packed. We got out of here a bit late and had to grab lunch out, but we made it to the other county's library where Chris had computer books on hold and I had The Demon King and I by Candace Havens to pick up. Son and Daughter also found books to check out and Son picked up a few Scooby-Doo DVD's as well.  After that we headed to Mass and were treated to seeing one of our favorite Priests. Daughter now towers over him and Son just thinks it's neat that he's almost as tall as Father Bart. *G*
After that we went by BAMM where I took a book back I had bought a couple of weeks ago. (This was my first chance to take it back.) I didn't mention this book, because I read half a chapter of it and knew it would not work for me. I guess I should try a few pages before I buy a book, but most of the time I just am in a hurry and need to get it and go. I've seen people just sit down and read an entire book in the bookstore before and I can't help but feel like it's stealing in a way. I read the back blurb, the inside excerpt and maybe a page or two. If a book doesn't catch my attention at that point, I don't buy it. The best book buying thing I like to do though? Go in with a list. *G* One that has more than one book that I've read an online excerpt of, and one that I can find more info of online. How do y'all shop for books? Anyway, I picked up another book to replace the one I took back, Red-Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells. I've read an online excerpt of this book, so I have a taste of the author's voice and think I'll enjoy it.
After the bookstore we headed to Sam's where we picked up our bulk groceries. Is it bad that we buy fresh salsa in bulk? But, it's so yummy! *G* Did you know that celery dipped in salsa is yummy? Try it. Yum!. *G* But, we were good and added LARGE strawberries and some good looking blackberries to the cart as well. *G* I wish we were done after that, but no. We headed to Lowes after that where we picked up window-sill seedling greenhouses/containers. We picked up seeds as well: onion, bell peppers, jalapeno's, tomato's, watermelon, pumpkin and zucchini. I'm counting this as part of the kids Science projects. Each will have one of these containers in a window in their room. We had some Catnip seeds here at home we added in as well. *G* And THEN we headed home. *g*
We ate a quick dinner and then sat around the kitchen table with all the seeds and little peet pots to fill the window-sill containers. We had a good time! *G* Daughter did one, Chris did one we'll keep in the kitchen and I helped Son with his. They're both so excited. And we'll have a good start on our garden. In another few weeks we'll clear the plot of the backyard where we'll plant everything.
Tomorrow I have load after load of laundry and since I just did the ironing I'm good there. *G* I also need to go by our local library branch and pick up the movie we have on Hold that's come in. Has anyone seen Ghost Town
Oh, I forgot to mention one bright part to the day. When I got dressed for the day I popped on a pair of slacks I'd just bought a few weeks ago and they were LOOSE! I've lost about an inch in my waist. Why is it all I can think of is "It's about darn time!"? *G*

Well, that's it from me. I'm up way too late.(As in it's not technically Saturday anymore. Oops! *G*) I should maybe have posted before I did the ironing, but I went with an impulse to do the ironing tonight. I hope y'all had a relaxing and fun Saturday. I wish a restful and peaceful Sunday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Challenge Day 49. (No time for anything else. Hopefully tomorrow.)

Because Butterscotch wasn't the only one!School

I have yet to be happy with iPhoto's red-eye correction, so you'll have to put up with Layla's pupils being red. But, I wanted to share this photo with y'all because it's been a day or two since I've posted a picture of Layla! *G* Doesn't she look cute? I want to find a little top-hat......
Today was pretty peaceful. Son watched the Schoolhouse Rock Multiplication video today. He seemed to enjoy it and was whirling around later telling me that 0 x's anything was always the same thing! *G* (Um, I had been telling him that for two days already!) After the kids were done with their schoolwork, they went outside to play. It was a nice day here, sunny and 61 degrees, so not cold, just a tad chilly. They were outside for about twenty minutes and Son came in saying he was bored. Daughter wasn't too far behind him! We have basketballs, practice baseballs, bats, soccers balls, tennis rackets and balls, a bocce ball set, scooters, bikes, frisbee's and on and on....AND THEY WERE BORED. *sigh* I remember loving playing outside at their age. And their friends were out there, too. THEY were bored as well. GAH! When it got dark they came in and headed for the computer. They played Lego Star Wars for a while. *G* When Chris arrived home we headed out to go Grocery shopping. (One of our usual stores, anyway.) I normally do this myself, but decided it would be nice to have someone along who could help corral the kids and help with the heavy stuff. *G* I forgot that grocery shopping with Chris is a lot like having a third child. The trip took an extra hour because of Chris and the kids. *G* After that we headed for home and had dinner, settled in and have been relaxing. *G*
I have found that my repertoire of meatless dinners needs to be enlarged. Daughter, Son and I don't eat seafood so it makes it a bit difficult. Tonight's culinary excellence consisted of grilled cheese and carrots. *G* But, we picked up some vegetarian corn dogs for next week. *G* So at least that's set. Anyone have any recipes to share? Please? *G*And just so you know, we are the type of people who probably should be in a support group for cheese-lovers. *G*

As for reading? Nothing new in from the library today, though I did send a question, via email, about the book that is in the catalog, but hasn't been released yet and it's been two months so far since it's been listed. What? Y'all wouldn't do that? I want to read that book. It came out in November, they added it in January and it's sat there ever since. Sounds like someone dropped the ball to me. And just so y'all know, I was good when we were at WW tonight, I didn't buy any books. Hmmmm, we somehow went around that section. I wonder if Chris did that on purpose? Oh, back to reading. I picked up a book I had just placed on my keeper shelves this evening. I am rereading Hope's Folly by Linnea Sinclair. It's actually very odd for me to pick up a book and reread it immediately after I've read it. But, I want so badly to revisit those character. Have y'all ever done that? Read a book and turn around and reread it right afterwards? I can say that last night I reread Finders Keepers  by Linnea Sinclair, also on my keeper shelves. I enjoyed it just as much this time as I did the first time I read it.

Nothing much else to share. It's been pretty low-key here today, just laundry and stuff. I hope y'all had a fun and low-key Friday. I wish a relaxing and smile-filled Saturday for y'all. Goodnight and Blessings, B.

Exercise: Melissa's challenge day 48, plus extra core exercises with the balance ball.

Butterscoth stands still!

I know, I know. Boring title. *G* But, I had to share this picture with y'all. I snapped it after clipping the kitties claws. And while he looks annoyed at the flash, I took the picture because of how he was standing on the sofa table. Look at his paws! *G* Aren't they funny. Maybe you just had to be there? *G*

I. Am exhausted. It's been a long day. But, the real reason I'm tired? I was a bad, bad Brandy last night and read the book I picked up yesterday, Big Fat Manifesto by Susan Vaught. Now, I have to say I enjoyed this book and there was a scene that just made me cry. But, the reason I enjoyed this book so much is because it sheds light on what it's like to be an overweight teenager. Especially in todays society with it's "Obesity Epidemic". It catalogs the frustrations of trying to find cute clothes for an overweight teenager, to Doctors not being prepared (Or seeming to "See and Listen" the actual overweigh patient.) to the pressures these teens face with diets, prejudices, and yeah, even romance. I wish there was a book like this when I was a heavier teen. Because I found myself thinking "I know what that was like".  (And I wasn't as heavy as the heroine in the book.)
After that I still couldn't sleep so did the very, very bad thing and picked up another book. Linnea Sinclair's Hopes Folly. I don't know exactly how to categorize her books, but Sci-fi Romance seems to fit pretty well. *g* I loved this book and it's going on my keeper shelf with her others. The story was done well and the suspense part was handled perfectly. The hero was scarred and fabulous, and the heroine? I liked her, a lot. Their personal conflict was handled well and the ending was fitting. *g*
After that I was FINALLY able to get some sleep, but it was not enough. *sigh* So, I've been dragging a bit today.
After schoolwork we headed to the library, but they didn't have anything I wanted. Which, pardon my language, sucked. But, I did pick up the video for Son and he also picked up an Eyewitness DVD  on Volcano's. *G* The visit has left me without anything to read, but I may hit my keeper shelves tonight. *G* Are y'all reading anything good lately?

After the library we headed to the Y for Son's Skills and Drills Basketball clinic and met the Out-laws there. I ALMOST felt bad about leaving them with Daughter to watch Son while I went and worked out. But, I did it anyway. *g* After that Daughter and Son played around with the basketball hoops a bit and the Out-laws?  DID NOT LEAVE. *sigh* I got Daughter off to change for her swim class and the Out-laws decided to stay to watch her, and I was going to work out with the weights. Only 5 minutes after Daughter got in the water for her class a large strike of lightening lit up the sky and they cleared the pools and locker rooms. If it had stopped then and there, class would have been delayed. So, until a decision was made, I did work out on the weights and MIL decided to walk on one of the treadmills. *g* After about 20 minutes of that Daughter came and got me and said that they had decided to postpone class for another time. So, she changed and we ALL left for our respective homes. And during all this Chris called me at the Y (during Son's basketball class) and said he wasn't feeling well and was going straight home. Which left me AGAIN, as the only one to deal with the Out-laws. Now, I love them, dearly, but they suck the life right out of you. Same stories over and over and FIL? NEVER stops talking. Now I know why Chris is so quiet half the time. (Then again, I am, too. We're just quiet people, I guess.) *G*
I arrived home to find Chris lounging in the chair and then realized I still had to make dinner and run back out tonight to pick up something needed from the store. (I mentioned the thunder, lightening and rain, right?) And I admit, I may have lost it a smidge. I started banging pots and pans and huffing a bit. (Cut me some slack, I felt under a lot of stress to take care of everything, AGAIN.) Don't get me wrong, I love my family. But. They are very much content to let me handle everything that goes on here. And I do mean everything. *sigh* Luckily for Chris, he took the hint and went out and picked up what we needed. (Btw, I'm not a total meanie, he was feeling better at this point.)
Things have been better this evening, but I am so tired. So, this is where I leave y'all. I hope y'all had a pleasant and enthusiastic Thursday. I wish y'all a fun, fantastic and slightly funky, Friday. Goodnight and Hugs, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Challenge Day 47, extra core exercises on the balance ball, 2.6 miles (In under 30 minutes) on the Elyptical and 30 minutes of weight machines.

Time to clip claws!

Does Oreo look unhappy? Well, she was! Last night we gave all the kitties some catnip and then did something truly horrible! (At least, that's what they were thinking!) We clipped their claws. *g* And by we? I mean Daughter and I. Chris is too chicken to help because Layla and Oreo growl at me while I clip. *G* Did I mention Midnight tries to BITE the clippers? Yeah, one of these days his tongue is going to get snipped. Ouch! But, last night there was no bloodshed and we're happier for having kitties with claws without needle-sharp points.

Well, today was a bit more productive for Chris while the kids and I handled schoolwork he took some items that are no longer useful (and too badly damaged to be donated, to the dump. I was happy he managed to get something done! After that we headed for the kids RE class, where while the class was in progress Chris and I headed for a local recycling area, but it wasn't where it was supposed to be. (Those cell-phone mapping programs? Yeah, don't always work so well. ) So, we visited the library over there instead. I picked up a YA titled Big Fat Manifesto by Susan Vaught and a CD Daughter had on hold under my account. (We won't let the kids have accounts at this library system. One set of library cards for one county is all they need at this point. If there's anything our local system doesn't have, and the other does, they can put on Hold under mine or Chris' account.)
As for reading, I started (and finished) Danger in a Red Dress by Christina Dodd last night. I liked the heroine a lot and her story was interesting. The hero has been mentioned in several other of the author's books that I haven't read, or read one or two so long ago it's not even funny. I wasn't sure I'd like him at first. And my emotions teetered back and forth on him until the end, where he won me over when he groveled quite nicely. *G*

Oh, I forgot where I was. After picking the kids back up from their RE class we headed to the recycling place we knew and dropped off the recyclables and then we headed home. Since then things have been nice and quiet. *G*

I hope y'all had a good day. One that had smile-inducing moments. *G* I wish a happy and pleasing Thursday for y'all. Goodnight and Blessings, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Challenge day 46. That's all. I'm taking today off.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I hope this day found y'all well and in good spirits. This day was another usual day for us, but with the fun of putting a Green Derby on the kitties! *G* Butterscotch hopes his picture makes you smile, because it made us laugh like loons before it was taken. (What? We didn't hurt the sweetie and he was compensated with catnip.)

Well, you know that routine I was talking about? Yeah, still not there for us yet, but it was a bit better. Chris did manage to mail of his sister's Birthday card, even though her birthday was yesterday. *G* And after the kids finished their schoolwork we headed to the library where I had Danger in a Red Dress by Christina Dodd and The Accidental Human by Dakota Cassidy. I am happy about these, but would be happier if one of the library branches would release a book it has in cataloging, and has had it there for the past TWO MONTHS. *sigh* This branch is one I've had issues with holding onto books too long, before. After that we headed to Academy Sports to look for tennies for me, because it's that time of year. *G* I wear my tennies so often and working out so much I tend to wear them out quickly. I decided this year I would worry more about how they fit and how they were beneficial than how much they cost. But, y'all know me. I am cheap, especially when it comes to myself. I tried on more tennies than I want to see again for a long, long time. I made it all the way up to the $80 ones and just could. not. go. any further. I had pulled two pair aside and ended up trying one on each foot and hopping, running in place, and basically dancing around looking like a crazy woman in the isle. I even teased Daughter that it was okay to pretend she didn't know the "nutty lady". *G* I ended up with the cheapest of the two pair and they were NO WHERE near my self imposed limit. I felt so good about that I picked up a tank top for $5. *G* What? It was a pretty royal blue and I only have 3 tank tops I can wear to Yoga and to work-out in. And do y'all know how hot it can get here? Whew!
By the time we left I had 20 minutes to make it to my TurboKick class and I decided to try my new shoes in the class. I was excited enough about that, but then! Chris decided to take the class with me! WOO-HOO! I was so excited I ended up sounding like a hyped up cheerleader. *G* But, he decided to go ahead and try it anyway. And he did good! After the class Chris took Daughter to class with Son tagging along and I headed for the weight machines.
After Daughter's class we headed home where dinner was made by Chris, though I ate a sandwich. *G* I didn't want anything hot and wasn't in the mood for what he made, though the kids ate it. *G*
Which kinda leads to now, and me getting ready to get off-line because of the things yet to be done for bedtime. *g* I hope y'all had a fun and pleasant Tuesday. I wish an enjoyable Wednesday filled with good books, good friends and smiles. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Challenge Day 45 plus extra core work with the balance ball, 50 minutes of TurboKick and 30 minutes of weights. And for the first time in a while, my feet don't hurt. YAY!

P.S. May you have:
A world of wishes at your command.
God and his angels close to hand.
Friends and family their love impart,
and Irish blessings in your heart!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Fireball the cutie!

I snapped this picture of Fireball last night with my cell phone, hence the orange-ness of the energy saving lights.(Why is it my cell phone pics look like this, but not my actual camera pics?) *G* Isn't he a cutie? It was so odd to catch him in an actual cat pose.

Ahhh, today was a return to routine and I seriously enjoyed it. Son started to learn Multiplication today, it will take a bit before it catches on for him. I always found them easy, but Daughter had issues so we're hoping Son does better. To that end I placed School House Rock: Multiplication on Hold at the library today. He responds well to music and I thought this would be a fun and helpful bit to learn them. They were a bit before my time, but I've heard they're memorable. *G*
I even was able to get the floors sweeped and mopped today and somehow talked Daughter into vacuuming the upstairs. But, tomorrow Chris is home on one of his new days off and we are not doing well with this new schedule and keeping to our regular routine. I'm hoping it will settle down soon. I kind of expected Chris to just fit in around our routine and gee, I don't know, be helpful? HA! Not. *sigh* I think I'm going to have to sit down and have a talk with him. Which is going to make me feel like I'm controlling, I hate feeling that way. Bleh.
OOh, as for reading? YAY! I read Wonder Woman when I went to bed last night. I hit my "groove" with it, I guess you could say. It really was an interesting book. I can't remember the TV series, but this book had a lot of the God Ares in it, as a matter of fact, the Greek Gods themselves were given a lot of room in this book. If anyone can remember more of the series that I can, was it that way?
I have a couple more books in a TBR stack (I've only ever once had a TBR pile.) AND my library finally got 'with it' and has a book in on Hold for me. I hope to pick it up tomorrow.
I've decided tonight is my favorite night for TV, btw. *G* DWTS and Castle! WOOT! *g* Are y'all enjoying these shows?
Well, time for me to head off-line. I have things to take care of and I want to finish watching Castle!  *G* I hope y'all had a lovely Monday (chilly and rainy again, here.). I wish a pleasant and smile inducing Tuesday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Melissa's Challenge day 44 and 1 Hour Yoga.

Layla and I in the afternoon!

I was playing with Photobooth the other day and took this picture of Layla and I. I thought it was a good picture to show y'all how much I love this kitty. *G* And that the sentiment seems to be returned.
Guess what? I took the day off! I rested and relaxed! I feel lazy. *sigh* But, I exercised and ran a small errand, emptied the dishwasher......trust me. This is me resting. *G* Oh, and I made soup for dinner because it's still rainy, grey and chilly here. Funny enough it didn't keep my kids from playing out in it! Well, in the breaks between raining. *g*
It's been a pretty quiet day. Since I haven't had one of those in a while I enjoyed it.
Daughter's tonsils are still enlarged. Not as bad as early last week, but still not back to normal. We have until Wednesday and then if there's no change she has to go back to the Doc for a visit. Son was given a Birthday gift from his friends yesterday and he's been having a blast with it. It's a digital photo watch. He had Chris download some pictures of the kitties onto it. And I made sure today to take some of him with his friends that we'll put on it later.
Chris had to work late, and with his new hours that put him home really late. OOh, and I forgot to tell y'all. I made an appointment with the personal trainer for Chris, too. Just one appointment, to show him more exercises he should be doing. (Because he's not listening to me.) And I joked with him that she was going to "kick his butt". He had it yesterday morning and came home and was fine. Then he sat for a bit and went to get up and said he was sore! He's still groaning a bit tonight! *G* But, at least now he knows some new things he can add and he SAYS he'll do them. I guess we'll see.
As for reading today? I honestly couldn't keep still long enough to read. I guess the whole resting thing passed me by in that area. Besides, I still have later this evening when we go to bed. I really am interested in the book I'm reading, so it's not that. Do you ever get where you can't concentrate on a book or sit still?
Anyway, time for those night-time bits and pieces. I hope that y'all had a restful and peaceful Sunday. I wish a productive, yet low-key Monday for y'all. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Exercise: Melissa's challenge day 43, more core exercises with the balance ball, 2 power-burn routines on the treadmill (equals 2.56 miles) at varying speeds (walking and jogging) and heights, and an extra 1 mile jog with varying heights. Is it bad to be proud of myself? *G*

Athena is extremely bendy!

I know cats are flexible, they're supposed to be. But this kitty can curve her back where she can grab her own tale. *g* She's a sweet, timid and cute kitty!
I meant to post earlier, but I have been online searching for a new sports bra. My favorite ones, made by Champion have been changed and I've been to three different Targets before I gave up hoping that I could come across one that wasn't changed. Feel free to stop reading at this point if you don't want to hear more. *G* My problem with the new design is from the large, to the extra-large (which is what I wear due to my large rib cage) has changed in that the extra large now has more fabric. Great if you are well endowed, but not if the reason you buy that size is for the the fit around and not the um, front area. *sigh* I tried one on and it went down almost to my waist now! ACK! No fair! I love this bra! *sigh* So, I've been looking on the internet. I found one on sale tonight, about 10 minutes ago actually *G*,  that I hope will work. But, here's a fun thing! I have no idea my cup size! HA! So, I guessed. I hope it doesn't come back to bite me on the fanny. I figured if I went too small, then I'll just be compressed more. But, if I went too big then I'd have dents. No woman wants dents. Cross your fingers for me. *G*
Today itself went well. It was chilly and rainy. The perfect day to rest. Which is what I did. Well, around doing load after load of laundry. *G* And making dinner. But, Chris cleaned up, so that counts in the "I rested" area. *g*  I should have taken some time to read, but it was nice to just sit and zone out a bit watching the History Channel. What? I enjoy the History channel. Son and I watch Cities of the Underworld together.
I have started my Wonder Woman book. The greek history in the first few pages was interesting and seemed to be brought to life quite well. I will try hard to take some time to read tomorrow. I did read a book the other night I forgot to tell y'all about. Hounding the Pavement by Judi McCoy was a good amateur sleuth mystery. The main character was sympathetic and funny. The hero came off as a bit conceited, but I think maybe he'll redeem himself in the next book in this new series due out in the Fall of this year. And the funniest character in the book, who stole the show, was the heroines feisty dog! The best part though, is that all proceeds from the royalties of the book will be donated to an animal charity the author sponsors. Now that is AWESOME! And speaking of animal charities, could y'all please visit The Animal Rescue Site and click on the button to give free food? One of the forums I visit has posted that the site is having a hard time meeting their quota of clicks to donate food to needy animals. And it doesn't cost you anything. One click every day matters to a hungry animal.

I think I've bored y'all enough, so I'm headed off-line. I hope your Saturday was filled with good news and good times. I wish a peaceful and restorative Sunday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Day 42 of Melissa's Challenge, plus core exercises on the balance ball.

Um, what?

I was recently browsing Barnes and Noble online in the Coming Soon section and spotted this. WTheck?

Son took this picture of Layla. She's lying on the cardboard chaise we bought a couple of months ago. It's placed right at the corner in the LR with all the other kitty toys. And yes, that's a Teddy Bear down there. When Fireball was a kitten he loved that Teddy Bear and we like to think it comforted him when he was healing after his surgery at the Vet's two years ago. *g* Now the Teddy Bear guards the kitties toys. *G* And no, these aren't all the kitty toys we have, they are scattered around the house, although the majority of them, I am sure, are under my stove. It may be time to get Daughter to fish them out again. *G* I bet that's where most of my outlet plugs are, thanks to Midnight. The stinker.

I wanted to post a kitty pic for y'all, because I feel like that's what y'all have come to expect. However, the real post is below this one. *g*

(Sorry for all the *g*'s. I'm in a good mood.)

Son's Day!

Whose job was this again? Chris and FIL sat at the table this afternoon and started to put together the Lego sets that Son received for his Birthday. Why? Because Son begged them to, of course. *G* Chris worked on the Lego Star Wars ship and FIL worked on the Lego Spider they had bought Son for his birthday. *G* And the other picture is of Son's cake. It was, of course, Star Wars themed as well. (Son's hand is in the way because he's covering his name for the picture.)
I could. not. sleep. last night. *sigh* I finally got about 4 maybe 4 and a half hours. But, hey, I caught Hello Dolly on AMC this morning, so that was neat. *g* As a result of my lack of sleep I have abused caffeine today. I had FOUR cups of my Diet Dr. Pepper. (Don't worry, I drank a lot of water today as well.) But, I needed that caffeine to get through the day.
Son sprang out of bed today, practically vibrating with energy and joy that today was his Birthday, he was finally Seven years old. *G* He changed as quick as he could and ran downstairs. I heard him searching from room to room, but didn't think much of it until he returned back upstairs and opened our closet door and looked under our bed. I asked him what he was looking for and he said his presents. *G* (I had hidden them behind our bedroom door.) After teasing him a bit, I finally caved and he carried them downstairs.  He checked the mail and had a card, that made his day. And the Out-laws visited this afternoon and brought him a Star Wars card that plays the theme to Star Wars (Do not ask me how many times we've heard that today.). They stayed for a bit and Son opened his all his gifts. He made out like a Star Wars bandit. *G* And thanks to Chris' sister (the card in the mail) and the Out-laws, he had 2 gift cards to Toys R Us. Because if the possibility of rain, and the fact that it only reached 43 degrees today we decided not to go swimming at the Y. (Yes, it's an indoor pool, but Daughter and I have long hair and um, it wasn't a good time for me to go.) So, we'll go later this week. Instead we went to the movies! Son has been wanting to see Race to Witch Mountain, so that's where we went. (Whoa! Prices at the movies are scary! Not so much the tickets, but good golly the snacks were exorbitant.) Anyway, the movie was excellent. I highly recommend it. It's rated PG, but that's for the "violence", that wasn't that strong to me. Although all the explosions were fun. *G* It really was a cute movie and we'll be looking for it to come out on DVD. After that we still had time so we headed to Toys R Us because goodness forbid if Son didn't get to spend his gift cards tonight. *G* He again chose Star Wars toys (Noticing a theme here?). Then we headed home. Son had chosen dinner (It's one of our traditions.) and so we had pizza. Like y'all didn't know that was coming. Son's LOVES pizza. *g* After the pizza there was cake, and Daughter and Son watched the Clone Wars DVD Son had received as a gift.
Now it's bed time. But, I have one more task. Jace has gifted me with another award! (I SO don't deserve it, but it was so sweet!)(It's at the top of the page, I'm still a techno-goober and getting pictures where I want them is not my thing. *G*)

The rules are such: 1. List 5 of my addictions (books and reading don't count.) 2. Give this Award to Five other bloggers.

So, here goes. I actually had to ask Chris what other addictions besides books I had!

1. My Diet Dr. Pepper. I can not start my day without a glass of this. I know it's not good for me and I DON'T CARE. *G*

2. Working out/ Exercise. No, really. If I don't work out a certain number of times a week I get cranky.

3. Cake. I lurve cake, and not just any cake, but birthday cake. However, I am smart enough not to eat it that often.

4. Hmmmmm. My Computer! Ha! I knew there had to be something else. *g* I truly am a shy woman. My computer allows me to be out in the world, without physically putting myself out there for rejection. It's how I've met the lovely women I converse with through their blogs.

5. Books. Sorry, I'm breaking the rules, but so much of my life revolves around not just my family (and the kitties), but the books I read. They are my peace, my entertainment, my mental health breaks. *G* It doesn't seem quite fair to leave out one of the most basic and important things in my life.

Now, I'm supposed to pick five of y'all. And I can't. I enjoy each of you for your separate styles, personalities and offerings to the world. So, know that I find each and every one of you fabulous and, if y'all don't mind, please participate. Maybe y'all will be better at following the rules than I was. Ooh, for once I was a rule breaker. Awesome! *G*

And that's it for me. It's late, again, and my eyes are drooping. I hope y'all had an enjoyable and laughter-filled day. I wish y'all a relaxing and pleasing Saturday. Goodnight and God Bless, B.

Exercise: Day 41 of Melissa's challenge, plus a bit more core work.

What's wrong with this picture?

No, really. Take a close look. We were at the grocery store the other evening and happened by the Easter treats. And as someone with kids who still does Easter baskets every year-of course I'm going to stop and look. But, I passed by these and then took another look. The package says Easter bubble rings, but the rings themselves.......*G* Talk about recycling! (And only I would stand in the middle of the Easter section in a grocery store to bring you weird pictures. *G*)

Today was another long day and I'm actually very glad that Thursdays only come once a week and that these Thursdays will only last until the end of the month. We (the kids and I) were at the Y from 6pm until 8:30pm. As last week Daughter watched Son at his Basketball Skills and Drills class while I worked out for half an hour. I returned in time to see Son learning how to "guard". *G* After his class Son and Daughter played with the hoops a bit longer and then I took Son to childwatch and then Daughter to the locker room so she could change for her swim class. I made sure she met with the Teacher (yeah, I'm overprotective) and then I worked out with the weight machines for another half hour. After that I picked Son up from childwatch, changed and met Daughter as her class ended. While she changed Son and I waited in the seating area up front. Then we left for home and since Chris had just arrived as well, we had to make dinner and eat. I should have made something ahead of time, I don't know why I didn't. But, I won't make the same mistake next time. And Chris? Was late getting home because he went by WW to pick up candles for Son's cake tomorrow. *G*
I didn't get a chance to read last night, well, I did read my magazine. *g* But, was too tired to read anything more and didn't have time to read today. I'm hoping to take time tonight after we head to bed, even if it's just 10 minutes.
Tomorrow is Son's birthday and the Out-laws will be visiting, then we'll head to the Y where we'll all go swimming, Son's choice. *g* After that we'll go home, dinner, presents and cake. He's excited and has been counting down to his Birthday all week. *G*
It's time for me to get things moving and ready for bed. I hope y'all had a pleasing and smile filled day. I wish a fun and fabulous Friday. Goodnight and Blessings, B.

Exercise: Melissa's challenge day 40, 2.55 miles on the elyptical @ level 9 and 30 minutes of weight machines.

Butterscotch tried to claim my treadmill!

This picture was made last night WHILE I WAS ON the treadmill. Butterscotch tried to claim the treadmill as his, while I was running. He sat on the end and when it bounced as I was running he tried to GRAB IT to stop it. (Don't worry, he was at the top end and there is no belt there.) He started to roll around to the point his tail was running along the belt and I was afraid I'd step on it so I screamed, freaked him out, and he was gone like a flash. I didn't see him for another hour. *G* And yes, Midnight got his chance to walk before I got on. Goodness forbid the cat doesn't get a chance to walk on the treadmill. *G*
Today was jam packed. It wasn't so much running around as it was a looooong day. The kids had complete physicals and Son is fine, though she suggested a multi-vitamin because he's a picky and sparse eater. Oh, and seems he needs a visit to the eye doctor because he showed signs of being near-sighted. Daughter's tonsils are HUGE. They look like grape tomato's or cherries. So they did a culture for strep, nope. And her throat's not sore. She shows no signs of being sick, but does have drainage. We're to keep an eye on her and if it doesn't improve, we're to take her back. And? Both kids needed shots. ACK! Son had 4, seems they like to give tetanus shots and a chicken pox booster. Same with Daughter, she only got three. The meningitis shot, the chicken pox booster and a tetanus. I felt so bad. I had no idea they needed so many shots. Um, I felt bad enough that we bought them dinner out and a treat when we visited Target (Daughter got a book and Son got a Captain Rex figure.). Hello? Did you miss the 4 and 3 shots? While at Target we did our usual sneak routine and bought Son's birthday gifts. We ended up getting him the Clone Wars DVD and a Lego Star Wars ship. We don't go overboard for their birthdays. It's hard to explain. We don't want to spoil the kids with lots of things, but at the same time we know what it's like to be young and want those same things. So, we try to strike a balance.
After Target we headed to RE where, since we were early, the kids played with the basketball that we periodically keep in the jeep. Actually, Son played with a couple of other boys there for RE as well, while Daughter read her book on the sidelines. She said her arms hurt too much from the shots and I? Felt guilty as heck.
While the kids were in RE Chris and I went to BAMM where I picked up the newest RT magazine and a book (Wonder Woman by S.D Perry and Britta Dennison). I should feel guilty about that, but I won't buy many books for the the next few months. And I still don't have any Holds in at the library. I bought the book, though it isn't my usual fare, because I still remember getting excited to watch the TV series when I was little. Yes, she wore a skimpy outfit (I look back now and wonder WHY), but she was a strong woman who ended up rescuing the GUY. I thought that was AWESOME. *g* And the Greek mythology of this newest book appeals to me. For some reason that's always had a huge place in my heart and mind. Weird, eh? History was always my favorite subject. *g*
After that, home and dinner and now bed.
Ooh, I forgot to tell y'all. Son tried to pick up one of the cats last night and this cat was not in the mood. And Son didn't listen to us (as six year olds are wont to do) and kept trying, well, the cat scratched him (not badly), but enough to upset Son. We calmed him down, explained what he had done wrong and placed anti-bacterial salve on the scratch. The Son said the funniest thing. He said that we could have used honey! And he's right. I guess all the history channel watching we do payed off. *G*
Well, I'm awake late thanks to the long day we've had. I need to get some sleep. I hope y'all had a low-key and good day. I wish a pleasant Thursday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Day 39 of Melissa's Challenge plus extra core work with the balance ball.
P.S. Below this post are pictures of Son's headboard.

And another look at Son's headboard!

This is how Son's headboard looks with his bed. We just bought him a new comforter and will be painting his room soon. Then, we'll tackle Daughters room. *g*

Son's Headboard, Finished!

Son's headboard is finished. Because I was so tired from doing the chairs and the second sanding of the headboard, Chris took over and gave it it's last coat of varnish. Didn't it come out great?!

Done!

I am done! What do y'all think? The onyx looks good with the table and with the color on the walls, the rug and the curtains. It was a lot of effort but I'm pretty satisfied with how they came out.

Today didn't go as planned. I slept late and since everyone seems to count on me getting them up, everyone else slept late as well. Son didn't want to do his schoolwork today, he had a hard time sitting still for some reason. I am sore from all the bending, kneeling and leaning to do the chairs, too.
I didn't get a chance to read any more last night because I basically dragged myself upstairs after finally drilling the seats back on the chairs and getting everything set up right in the kitchen again. I fell asleep almost as soon as my head hit the pillow. *G*
Chris was nice enough to put another coat of varnish on Son's headboard for me this afternoon. I was just too tired. *g* It looks good and should be ready to put back in Son's room tomorrow morning. We also ordered Son's birthday cake this afternoon. *G* And tomorrow I need to pick up something for him. He's checked the DVD of Star Wars the Clone Wars out of the library so many times, that we're thinking of getting him his own copy. *g*
This evening Daughter had her swim class and the Out-laws showed up to see how she's doing. Daughter's teacher says that she's an apt pupil who is quiet and pays attention. The pays attention part made us pause a bit, but we're proud of her. After class the Out-laws went home and so did we. I had made dinner this afternoon and after arriving home Chris reheated it while I got my chance to work out. (He worked out at the Y while I entertained Son and his parents.) We ate and had fresh strawberries for dessert. YUM. Now I am thinking of all that still needs to be done and wishing for another Brandy to take care of it! *G*

Time for me to get off and take care of things. I hope y'all had a happy and smile-filled Tuesday. I wish an enjoyable Wednesday for y'all. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Melissa's challenge day 38, core work on the balance ball and 2 Power Burns on the Treadmill at home this evening.

Layla wants my attention!

I guess the past few days I haven't been spending enough time with Layla. She's been following me around more than usual and is rubbing against my legs with force. *G* Poor thing. I was  good kitty mama and spent some time petting her this evening.
Today has left me tired. I really could have used two of me today. *g* But, we were able to get our homeschooling done before my Doc appointment, which went well except my blood pressure was a bit high. Weird considering how much I exercise, watch what we eat, I don't even cook with salt. She did say that it could be stress. Ha! And I had to tell her that yeah, this weekend and today has been pretty stressful. So, I made a point of going to Yoga tonight to take some time for myself to slow down.
But, before heading to the Y tonight, we came home after my Doc appointment and I put a coat of varnish on the chairs and seats and I am let that dry while we went by the library and then the Y. I didn't get home until almost 8pm and took some time to just rest for the evening and have watched DWTS and Castle. OMGosh! I loved Castle. As a matter of fact, even Chris enjoyed it! I really hope it makes it through a full season, and beyond.

While we were at the Doc's this afternoon I made appointments for the kids. Daughter wasn't thrilled, but Son didn't care at all. As a matter of fact he BEGGED to watch the nurse take my blood. Ewwwwww. Then I had to be "brave Mommy" and couldn't cry. *sigh* He thought it was cool. Boys. *g* Oh, and while at the Doc's I also started to read a book I picked up this weekend, Death's Daughter by Amber Benson. It has an interesting premise about Death being almost like a corporation with Immortality as one of the benefits of being the CEO. The current CEO's is kidnapped and it's up to Calliope Reaper-Jones to step into her father's shoes, no more hunting bargains on designer shoes for her. *g* I haven't made it far into the first chapter, I've just not had the time. Believe it or not, my Doc was actually prompt. *g* But, I'll be sure to share more details if I really enjoy it. Anything y'all are reading lately you want to share? *G*

Time for me to sand some furniture, earn that slice of cheesecake I have my eye on. *G* I hope y'all had a stress-free and productive day. I wish a pleasant Tuesday for y'all. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Exercise: Day 37 of Melissa's challenge, few extra core work, 1 Hour Yoga.

How I spent 10 Hours of my day!

Ack! It's been a long, long, looooooong day. I am sore, tired and oddly pleased. *g* To start with, let me explain that these four chairs weren't my only project today. I also stained Son's headboard. (See picture in another post under this one.) As for these chairs? I stained them, sanded them down, and have stained them again. Tomorrow I hope to find the time to put on a coat of polyurethane, sand that down and put on the last coat. ( I get tired thinking of all the work still yet to be done.) As for the seats, they were supposed to be a different color, but the stain we bought was redder than the table and didn't match and then Chris bought another color on the way home for me and it didn't work either. (We tested the colors on spare pieces of wood.) So, we (Meaning me, I'm the one doing all the work, I get to make the decisions for this. *G*) decided to go ahead and stain the seats Onyx as well. (The same color as the chairs themselves.) So, after dinner this evening. (Which I cooked and then took 20 minutes to eat. *sigh*) I stained the seats and after they dried I sanded them and put on a second coat of stain. Bored yet? *G* Oh, and don't worry, I know Onyx is an odd stain color choice, but our table has a wrought iron base, so this is going to look fabulous. And as for a stain rather than paint? With the stain, features of the wood (the graining) still stand out, while paint just covers everything up. I will say painting would have been easier. *g*
Because of all the work I did on everything today I already can tell my hands and wrists are going to be bothering me badly tomorrow. As a matter of fact, they already hurt. And tomorrow? BUSY. *sigh* I need two of me. We have homeschooling, I have a Doc appointment (for the Thyroid mess), Daughter wants to visit the library, I have Yoga and need to work on the chairs and headboard again. Not only do I need two of me, I need more hours in the day. *sigh* AND tomorrow is the start of Dancing With the Stars and the premiere of the new show Castle, which stars Nathan Fillion. Who I adore. *g*
As for reading? Well, there wasn't any today. *sigh* I hope to crack open a book soon. I also wanted to say sorry I wasn't around to visit earlier today. Not only was I busy with my projects, but Apple released a couple of updates, one of which was for our Router and the update made it impossible for me to get online. (Stupid updates! We weren't the only one with problems with it, either.)  Luckily Chris figured out a way around it this evening, so I've visited you all. *G*

That's all from me, to post I am up LATE. I need to get some sleep so I won't be a walking yawn tomorrow. I hope y'all had a restful and peaceful Sunday. I wish y'all an enjoyable and low-key Monday. Goodnight and Blessings to each of you, B.

Exercise: Day 26 of Melissa's Challenge, plus more core work on the balance ball. Does the staining and sanding and staining count, too? *G*
P.S. Just a reminder, there are two posts below this one to see. One of Son's headboard, the other a Before picture of the chairs.

Son's Headboard!

Think of this as an in-between picture. I'd forgotten to take a before picture. (What? I've been busy.) This is after one coat of stain. I need to sand it down a tiny bit and put on another coat and then it's done. Isn't it pretty? *G*

My new chairs!

This is the before shot. Aren't they pretty (I know, this is a picture of one.) I kinda started staining them and then remembered I wanted a Before shot. *G* Luckily this was the last one and I hadn't gotten to it yet. *G*

Another picture from last night!S

Midnight was eager to explore the kitty food bag last night. He was the first kitty in and the last one, too! It's so funny to open one of these bags and empty them into the container. Where before there doesn't look to be any kitties around, to HI! All seven kitties staring at you like " where's the food?".  It doesn't matter if they were in the restroom eating from their food bowls at the time! *g*

Today has been busy! Guess what? I have my new table chairs! YAY! Now I need to find the time to stain them! Chris picked them up early this afternoon and we've been trying them out and they are, indeed, comfortable. And now I have chairs that are solid as a rock and that the cats can't destroy. Awesome! We made it to Mass today and afterwards headed to Sam's for the last of our gorceries (And picked up some strawberries the size of Son's fist, Whoa!). After that we headed to Marshall's because Chris needed a new belt and we ended up picking up Daughter a polo shirt and Tinkerbell tank top. This kid needs to stop growing! *g* She'll be 14 next month and I'm just not ready for her to get older. *sigh* As a matter of fact, Son will be 7 years old this coming Friday and he's up to my chest. ACK! My baby is growing up. BOTH my babies are growing up. Life needs to slow down a bit.
Oops, back to it. After all that we headed home and had a "raid the fridge" night. Where I try to get everyone to eat some of the leftovers we have. *g* Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this? Pretty please?
Anyway, I haven't had time to read tonight, but I did finish the Jen Lancaster book and adored it! I'm going to have to find copies of her books for my own. Especially the first of hers I'd read, Such a Pretty Fat.  I even have added her website for a once weekly visit. Like I don't spend enough time on the internet! *g* As for what to read next I do have a couple of options, I'll let y'all know what I decide, when I find the time to read again! *G*
Don't forget it's Daylight Savings Time! Isn't it weird how 2am disappears? One second it's 1:59:59 and the next it's 3:00:00. It's pretty odd to me. *g*

Well, I'm up way to late (I'm not telling, but trust me.) and need to get some sleep. I hope y'all had a relaxing and fun Saturday. I wish y'all a peaceful and pleasant Sunday. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.

Exercise: Day 35 of Melissa's challenge, plus additional core exercises with the Ball. Fun!

Believe it or not, they had food!

Today was grocery shopping day for me and while we weren't out of cat food, I like to buy for two weeks at a time. Keep in mind that I not only feed my seven, but I feed the strays outside as well. So, I bought two bags of cat food today and while inputing my receipts in the computer I hear "crinkle, scratch, scratch, crinkle". Chris gets up to look and there are Fireball and Midnight trying to find a way to get to the food in the bag. Chris had to go ahead and empty the cat food into the container (that wood piece in the background of the picture, looks like an old potato bin). He was curious as to how the cats would react to the bag, considering when they heard the cat food being poured into the container all seven came running. *G* Midnight crawled right in the bag and found a piece that hadn't emptied. He ate it. (Not like I hadn't just filled their food bowl or anything, jeez!) So, the other cats had to know what was going on and how come Midnight got something and they didn't. Which led to the other fella's wanting to see where he got it. *G* I have crazy cats. *G*

I wanted to get most of my grocery shopping done today because Chris has to pick up the chairs tomorrow and we have Mass and whatever else may pop up. Plus, I don't want him to overdo since he just worked 2 days together of his new longer days schedule. I also wanted to be able to stay home and go nowhere on Sunday so that I could get started on the headboard and chairs. So, after schoolwork, and letting Son play with his friends for a bit. (Daughter was in her room, gotta love teenagers, anti-social as all get-out.) THEN we headed to Aldi and WW. With a written grocery list and menu done before we left. *g* I even remembered to use my coupons. *G* Funny enough, we beat Chris home! He ended up having to work late. I put everything away, inputted the receipts, empties the dishwasher, ran the dryer and then we decided what to make for dinner that was meat free. We ended up with stir fried veggies and rice. YUM.

As for me reading. I have to admit, I had planned to read the Linnea Sinclair but since I read the first couple of pages of the Jen Lancaster book last evening I couldn't help myself. I went ahead and started reading it instead. And have laughed like a loon! I laughed so hard last night at one scene in the book I started a coughing fit and could. not. breathe. And it was so funny I my kids wanted to know "what?" "what?". I explained to Son and let Daughter read the scene (One of the few with no cursewords. *G*) and even she laughed like crazy. I may have to buy the book just for the one scene and I'll never look at a stapler the same way again. *G* I can't wait until her newest book is released later this year.

All that 'said', it's time for me to get off-line and make my bed! (It was sheet day here today. *g*) I'm ready to get some rest. I hope that y'all had a fun and enjoyable Friday. I wish a relaxing and pleasing Saturday. Goodnight, B.

Exercise: Day 34 of Melissa's challenge. (With some added ball exercises thrown in.)
